Blazer Crew Chief

Why thank You Carl.? The guages are not as nice as I’d like, since I just printed them off the internet.? AMT gives us a really nice set of decals, but why nothing for guages?? Thank You Bill! I am not a fit and finish Guy, but missing and out of scale items bug me.? I would love to see what you could do with one of these!? -
You can bring in a few Jerry cans of fuel to get you back to civilization…. But never a big enough battery. A solar recharge would be the only option out in the boonies, other than a tow. That said, I think all EVs should have solar panels on the roof so they charge all the time except at night. JMHO.

Sweet looking Impala!? I like the stock wheels and tires better than the mags…but that’s just me.? Do you have any good photos of that baking soda flocking job? Thx.

Looks nice Luke!? I have only done a couple of black paint jobs with less than stellar results…..so I am certainly interested!?

Not much progress, but I did finish the dash. I sanded off the guages and most of the glovebox lid. I made new ones out of .020” styrene, which gives the whole dash a bit more depth I think. -

Thanks Carl. Thanks Ron. This kit has a lot of minor issues, with the scale of accessories being one. -

Need a car recommendation
NOBLNG replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My wife has a 2014 with a manual trans that we bought new. Other than the spider gears in the rear being replaced on warranty, it’s been pretty much trouble free. Edit: I like the fact that it has coil springs all around for a decent ride. It also has a solid front axle which is pretty much bullet proof, unless you get into serious off-roading. There is even a Rubicon version that has heavier duty running gear. I think the four door with its longer wheelbase would give a much better ride than the shorter two door on gravel washboard roads. After market support is absolutely unparalleled. -
You’re welcome Jim! If I can’t be honest I keep my mouth shut.? A nice gunmetal or charcoal would look nice too.
-
Well, since you asked…I think that beautiful blood red interior would stand out nicer against a pearl white or silver exterior. Possibly other colours too? The two reds kind of detract from each other in my opinion.? Having all the trim done will make a big difference though.

The notorious Revell 29 A part # 50
NOBLNG replied to customline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The one in my first kit was just fine. Due to all the comments on here about that part, I opened and checked my second kit. It was warped.? They sent me a new one upon request.? Everyone with one of these kits on the shelf should check it if you haven’t already. It looks like the sprue frame has bowed outwards and pulled the windshield frame out of shape.? -

AMT Blazer rad support attachments?
NOBLNG replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Move along…Nothing to see here folks!? Seriously, there is nothing visible from the front unless the grill is opened up, which I intend to do.? More on these mods in my build thread here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/158387-blazer-crew-chief/page/2/#comments Thanks Guys!? -

The radiator in this kit is pitifully small? I have some castings of a rad that I made, so I modified one to use. It’s not quite as big as it should be, but better than what AMT gave us. Basically, I filed off the top and bottom tanks and added side tanks made of styrene rectangle stock. I also filed off all the junk (which don’t belong anyways apparently) on the front of the rad support to make room for the new rad. -
No need to heat the tube with wire inside (unless you want to use a solvent glue on it). I have used solid rod for exhaust pipes. It can be cold bent too, but is kind of hit and miss for getting a perfect angle. I like the tube and rod idea because the angles can be adjusted minutely and it holds its shape.

It is actually T-bar ceiling hanging wire that measures .049” diameter. It goes in fairly snug….I have to polish it a bit sometimes to get a 6” length to slid in. I also got some 18-2 bell wire from lowes that fits a bit loose (.040” diameter). It’s copper, so not near as stiff as the hanging wire, but it does keep the tube from collapsing.

Very well done Paul! The weathering looks great. I sure would hate to have to parallel park that monster!?
