1957 Ford Ranchero Custom - Updated 9/27

This is going to be ace! I haven't ventured into resin, yet. But seeing what you've got there, makes me want to try it out. The photo inspiration, looks like something Larry Watson would've done. I love this style ! Maybe cut some slots in card and spray through, for a fade edge, then tidy up the outer edges with tape and a few coats of colour, to give the panels definition. Or you could just go solid, with a contrasting pinstripe around the panel edges... Either way, it deserves a wild paint job -
Excellent! I love these big ol' Pontiacs. They did cool things with their lights.

Very slick! I love the details. Very nicely done.

I thought the wheels in this kit were very good. There's a tiny decal for the spokes and one for the centre cap. Tyres have a lot of sidewall detail and the tread took no time at all, to sand flat. The Brembo decals on the brakes are hard to see without a lens, which was necessary to get them correctly oriented on the calipers. I foiled the rotors and used fine wet n dry around them, to make the look a bit scored from hard use.- 9 replies

I considered carbon fibre, for the roof. But I've seen a few of those done already. So I went for skulls.- 9 replies

Here's the underside. Driveshaft and exhaust are moulded into the floorpan, so a bit of tricky masking was needed. I was going to use silly putty, but mine had got old and was useless. A bit of black wash brought out the nice details and a bit of heat staining was applied to the exhaust.- 9 replies

Thanks guys Anthony, the colour is Ford green jade metallic. I'll post some more pics, soon. Idebated as to whether to include seatbelts, but to be quite honest, you wouldn't be able to see them in the black interior.- 9 replies

The interior went together without a hitch. I foiled the door release handles and added some seatbelt clasps. I also put a little bit of Future Clear on the sat-nav screen and airbrushed some gunmetal onto the horizontal strip on the dash.- 9 replies

I just bought myself an airbrush, so after years of rattle-can painting, I'm hoping the paint comes out well on this. This is a nice kit. Everything fits and the mould seams on the body are virtually invisible. So, here's the paint on the body. I decanted from a rattle can and got messy doing so. Then I realised that spraying into the can lid, was a better idea than trying to spray into a little bottle! You live n learn... I'm very pleased with the results. Hardly any orange peel!

Looks ready to hit the highway! Top build. I like the subtle underhood weathering.

Ticks all my boxes! Gorgeous paint. Did you lay cling wrap onto the wet paint for that effect? I love these big 60's cars. Yours looks excellent. That green is both wild and classy. I built one of these, a while ago. I wish it had come out as nice as yours. It's a nice kit, isn't it? The interior is nicely done and it has a big old power plant with a blower.

I went back for another look. I'm glad you did that grille and posted the pics, as I wouldn't have got to see it, otherwise. I noticed the gold on the rims. Nice detail. And those flames are wispy and subtle. Very nice.
-
I love it! I'm a big fan of Larry Watson and this Chevy year. Your paint is superb and that new grille was definitely worth the effort. Looks very period correct, to my untrained eye, especially with the Lancer caps.
-
Wunderschön! By coincidence, I saw a burgundy one of these, today. Riding on BBS rims. You nailed it with yours. Top job. Great paint and excellent wheel choice. (But some BBS would've hidden the lack of calipers on the brakes)
-
I agree. Very crisp and sharp. The blue really suits it. Very classy. I've never seen this kit before. It looks great. I'm off to eBay, to see if I can get one!
-
I dig it! Looks very clean and crisp. Makes me want to get one! I love gassers!
-
Nice one, Peter! You obviously put a lot of time and effort into it and it's paid off. That's a very interesting, unusual and well built model. I doff my cap to you, sir!
-
A 30 year-old build? It looks fresh, mate! Classy colour combo, too. And I like the way your photos make it look like it's a 1:1, sitting on a proud owner's driveway. Adds to the realism ??
-
Thanks very much, guys! I'm glad you approve. I know these cars aren't to everybody's taste, but I love the excess of them. I saw a bumper sticker on one, which said; "Life's too short to drive a boring car" Kinda sums it up, for me. (I drive a black Audi A3 and I'm running out of time!) I'll try a more elaborate paint job on my next lo-lo (59 Impala), now I have an airbrush ? And I'll make my own line tape. This build taught me a lot ?
-
Nice to see a less well-known kit getting some attention. Yours looks very good and sits right. I like the scenery, too.
-
Very tidy build! I don't think I've ever seen one of these kits before. You did a great job on it.
-
Spot-on! It looks great sitting on those wheels. The tonneau looks very realistic, too.
-
Wow! That IS good! I thought I was looking at a bigger scale than 1:25. That engine bay is fantastic. Very inspirational!
-
Perfect! A top build and an unusual subject. It looks very realistic.
-
They both look cool and great fun to build! I dig buggies, especially when they're a bit different ?
