So, a quick build turned into a longer one after I deliberated over wheels. I ended up buying two sets from some dudes in Japan and one set from a matey in Ukraine. I can't decide whether to modify these Aoshima flared arches, or cut n wedge the body arches and blend them with filler. I'm using 14" wheels, as my research shows these are a popular choice with the Dub crowd. the Chrome rims are Aoshima and the resin ones are Scale Productions. Both have asymmetrical stance tyres.

I had a yellow '77 Golf mk1, years ago. It wasn't a GTi, but it was a great car. As a little break from '50's chrome, I've changed tack and given this a go. My plan is to slam it, widen the track and flare the arches. Paint will be old and a bit faded, like mine was and I'll stickerbomb it in a couple of places. Got the engine done today. It built up really well. Nice to build a kit with modern tooling. I added a basic fuel injection system and weathered it a bit.

And it shows! Very nice example. Looks just right.

I like this a lot! The fade is spot-on and I love the tail-dragging stance. I agree with everyone else about those rear lights. They're excellent. R&M stuff is good.

Thanks for showing us your build, Shawn. Great to see budding talent here. What's your next project going to be?

Handsome reworking and very nicely done. Paint and finish are excellent. Very nice indeed.

Man, that's a very classy looking ride! Your paint choice and finish is superb! I love the wheels. Gives a hint of rebellion ?

Wow! that's made me want to buy one of these kits. I'm a sucker for Lowriders and this is just perfect.

I agree... I keep seeing more lovely details. The Spring shackle, the brake hoses, the mesh grille, the welds, the engine... All superb work

Good to see it survived all these years! maybe the dust protected it? ?

Beautiful! That shine is a mile deep. Colour suits it well. I've built one of these as a Contiwagon. If I remember correctly, the body was very good on this kit. No warp and easily removed seams.

Thanks very much, for your kind comments everyone. I really appreciate it. Dave, I don't know the brand of the paint. I got it from an automotive paint supplier. The white is a Seat colour: mica white. The purple is a custom mix, which I got them to mix for me. I couldn't believe how little I used, with an airbrush! The lilac shade is a mix of the two colours. Rob, the badges and horn ring were in the Detail Master PE set. I used to be able to paint these by eye, but I need a bit of magnification, these days! David, I used the Molotow pens on a couple of areas, because this sheet of BMF was one of the worst I've ever used. It kept lifting and refused to stick in some places. It could've been polish residue, ruining the adhesion. But I was very thorough with washing and prepping the surface, prior to the foiling. The Molotow pens saved the day! I discovered that you can also wick the chrome paint from the pen, with a fine brush. That way, you can go even finer than their 1.0mm pen ?

That's a tidy build! Looks good. Sits right. I thought about building one like the Blues Brothers had. I'll have to do some homework on that.. -
Top marks for originality and execution! It looks great. Good proportions. ?

Very clean build! Excellent interior.. I like the fob on the ignition key. Nice touch. Brake rotors look good, too. And the emblems. Paint is lovely, too. And the acetate door glass.
-
That's one I've never seen before.. Looks like it could be tricky, but you nailed it. Nice job. I want some popcorn now.

Thanks, everyone. I'm glad you approve. I need a new sheet of BMF, now!

Beautifully done! The clever photography adds to the realism. Great work!

Outstanding! The modifications you made, really paid off. A very well executed and realistic build. -
My first build of 2018. I need a break from chrome, now! I added a frenched antenna, parts box wheels, modified grill and used a mask, for the flames. A Detail Master PE set topped it off. I hope you like it

Revell Volkswagen Rabbit - Clearly Scale Engine

Very nice work, indeed! you nailed it. I owned a mk1 Golf a few decades ago. Great car. Mine had 130k on the clock and still went like a rocket! That engine upgrade looks like money well spent. I'm about to start one of these and I was hoping to use some 14" wheels to get it low. Having seen the underside of yours, I think I'll need to either rethink my wheel choice or tub the wells. maybe the 3 weeks wait for the engine won't be so bad, if I have to do suspension mods... -

I'm dumbstruck! Until you see your hand in the photo, you'd swear this was 1:1. I've showed this to a couple of people and they couldn't believe it! Then they see your hand and their eyes pop out! First class build. I love it -

Very clean build. Looks like it's a 1:1 on the showroom floor of an exotic cars dealership.
