It is. It could've easily been restored to like new condition when I got it. It was just dirty and the chrome was worn on the wheel covers. -

Thanx Carl! I appreciate it! I'm still mulling over that idea. If I decide to do it, I'll give you a shout. -

They're from the AMT Resto Rods '65 Galaxie. Not sure if they'll stay or not. -
With the Impala done and nearing the finish line with another project, I thought I would start on this old Galaxie. My original idea was to just build it as a curbside. I got the wheels and tires I wanted for it and got the stance set. But, that was as far as it got. It's been languishing in a box ever since. Time to do something with it! My first thought was still doing it as a curbside. But, do a roof transplant with a '63 roof. Then I spotted the AMT '60 Starliner in the stash. It's almost a perfect fit! About all that needs to be done is shorten it at the rear. So, I guess now I'm gonna do another detailed build with it. No solid plan yet. Lots to do in the meantime!

Thanx D.W.! I honestly wasn't sure about the interior color. Even after I mocked it up. I almost decided to paint it black. But, now that it's done, I don't think any other color would've worked.

If you want a better chassis, use one from an AMT '66 Fairlane. It's almost a drop in. Just needs a little clearance work on the transmission/driveshaft tunnel.

Check with Fireball Modelworks. He may make them.

I did. But, I went back and looked again. You didn't give the actual measurement. You held the ruler below the opening on the Moebius Nova. You held it on top of the lip on the AMT Nova wagon. Measure the actual opening with a set of digital calipers like so. One way to settle this issue once and for all. Take digital calipers and measure from the bottom of the rockers to the top of the roof on both models. Then from the bottom of the rockers to the bottom of the DLO. They'll be no denying it one way or the other. No one can dispute actual measurements.
-
An easy way to lower the front is to shave off a couple of leafs on the spring. Cut on each side of the mounting tab to retain it. Then just remove the remainder from the spring. You'll also need to cut the top of the mounting tab off once you get it lowered enough as it will stick up above the frame.

The roof still looks chopped to me. The proposed "fix" (why does it need to be fixed if there's nothing wrong with it?) won't work either. The full scale car has that lip at the bottom of the DLO. Removing the lip would put the bottom of the DLO on a different plane than the vent glass. If you also removed the lip at the bottom of the vent glass, all of the DLO would be on a different plane than the bottom of the windshield. The top may "appear" taller. But, it won't be. Why not just admit that the top is chopped and be done with it? It's gonna come out when it hits the market anyway because the first thing someone will do is grab the body and a set of calipers to measure the DLO. Tim could provide that simple measurement now if he would do so.

Not entirely true. Look how the Revell Foose FD-100 and Cadillac kits turned out. Proof positive of the advantages of 3D scanning. Both models were as true to the full scale versions as it gets. Pretty sure the tooling for those were cut and manufactured in the same country. In all likelihood, the Nova gasser is what it is. All that's left to do when it hits the market is vote with our wallets. I've seen enough to make my decision.

Paul, how about moving firewall and all forward? Looks like you add styrene to the backside of it where it meets the body and floorpan.

Tamiya has a Light Gun Metal and Gun Metal in the TS line. As I recall, they dry fairly flat. But, you may have to hit them with Flat Clear to make them really flat.

Thanx to everyone for all of the great comments! I appreciate it!

That's a nice looking Gran Prix Bill! That's what it's about! I have a '72 promo that I need to build someday. -

I agree on an easily replaced kit. But, a pristine kit that can approach $200-$300 is a different story. I'd rather spend the time and save the money. Plus, for me, I enjoy turning an old model or promo that most would dismiss into something nice. There's a satisfaction that comes with it that you can't get from a fresh kit. Plus, there's something to be said about the skills one gains along the way. -
Welcome to the club Lee! You'll learn that you're not supposed to mention that the Kool Aid tastes funny. Least not until everyone has had a glass. Just drink it quietly. The roof on this kit looks like it has a three inch chop to me. Especially if you compare it to the roof height on the recently released '63 Nova wagon. I know that's apples to oranges (sort of). But, the roof heights should be the same. Maybe Tim could measure both and see what the results are. The chopped top is not a big deal if you're building a gasser as it's intended. Lots of full scale gassers had chopped tops. But, if the stock version is like this, it's gonna be the Mustang LX all over again.

Nice looking little wagon Tommy!

Nice looking Mercury! I really like your work on the B pillars. So often, they get leaned forward too far. Yours is right in the sweet spot!
