I didn't know the kit had the wrong trunk lid. But, I can't recall ever seeing the convertible kit. They did have the underside of the trunk prepped for the recess as I had to grind and sand it flat. Maybe they couldn't change it back after they added the recess for the coupe?

Thanx Steve! And you're welcome! How's the Impala wagon coming along?
-
Thanx Steve! It is nose high in the photo. But, it's because the body isn't nestled down onto the frame like it should be. You can see the big gap between the inner fenderwells and frame in front of the tire.

Nice looking '69 Impala Anthony! The color and wheels suits it well!

Thanx for the feedback guys, I appreciate it! Thanx Carl! A member is going to send me a set. When I get them, I want to see what they'll look like on it. Thanx! My first car was a '66 Caprice. Revell did make the '66 Impala SS 396. I built one several years ago. It's a nice kit.

Very nice Tim! The color is perfect for it! Nice work!

That is a great restoration Rich! And it's something that's rarely seen! Nice work!

I got the body in two coats of primer. I'm hoping I can just give it a light sanding with 1000 grit and start shooting paint. I also have the wheels and tires picked out I think. For whatever reason, I wasn't happy with any of the modern wheels I tried on it. They just didn't suit it. The opened vents in the hood have a real nice effect. My repair doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like I thought it might. But, it's still noticeable to me. I also got the cowl vent detail added. I cut the cowl vents from an AMT '70 Camaro and grafted them in. It looks much better than before!

Decommission a patrol car...
Plowboy replied to HomerS's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's some good stuff Jeff! I'd probably do the same as you have planned. Someone really liked police cars! -
BMF is part of the build process. It's no different than paint or glue. You just can't use or make parts that aren't in the kit. I have seen people alter parts and get by with it. I've seen box stock models that were clearly lowered be legal and win. Like others have mentioned, check the rules for the given contest.

Specific questions about the late 70s early 80s
Plowboy replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
1 no 2 no 3 more than likely wood or aluminum. -
You can with a '70 Chevelle and a '68 El Camino. But not a '65.

I wouldn't use wax and grease remover on a model. Another bad idea is using a tack cloth. I wash the bodies and parts with Dawn and an old tooth brush, shake off what I can and dry with a hair dryer. Then I'll take a loop of blue painters tape with the sticky side out and dab the body with it.

Tips for cutting clear plastic

Yeah. I use the thicker discs. They don't break nearly as easily. I've never broken one on styrene. -

I always use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. Then trim with a knife and sand. The thing about using a saw blade of any kind (razor saw, photo etch etc.) is they're prone to binding and causing you to break the glass. -
Time lately has been spent on removing the mold lines from every part. I usually do it a little at a time. But, I wanted to try it this way to see how it would work. I hate doing it either way! But, I think this way will help me get to the fun stuff quicker and be able to move it along at a better pace. I finally got the frame all smooth and ready for primer. I was able to tack enough suspension components together to do a stance check with wheels and tires on it. These aren't what I'll be using. But, they worked to get it up on it's own again. It's a little too nose high. But, I can easily fix that by moving the wheel pin up higher on the spindle. I should be shooting some serious primer soon!

Nice looking Chevelle Craig! That Tamiya Maroon is a nice looking color on it! Also like the wider Ralley wheels on the rear.

Nice looking wagon Anders! The understated colors really suits it!

Best clear substance for gauges?
Plowboy replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've done many with Testors Windshield Glue. No yellowing yet. -
My only suggestion is to make it just one simple "like" button. I'm notorious for touching the wrong spot on my tablet. Glad to have it either way.

Thanx Carl! The only thing I miss about older cars is the room they had.
