  1. The Firedome engine builds up nicely. I've always liked the breathers. Wiring them is simple. But, I don't like plumbing eight carburetors.
  2. I think I like the T's better. Mostly because of the staggered size. And they look cool with painted spokes. The second set of wheels are nice also. But, they would look better IMO with a taller tire on the rear. Sometimes, same size front and rear will give the illusion that the front wheels are bigger. Maybe it's something to do with the size of the wheel opening. Verdero green sounds like a perfect color for it. Maybe a Champagne Gold interior and engine?
  3. The latest version I built was in good shape. I don't recall it having any flash. The chrome tree was nice also. Of course, that may not be the case for every kit.

Thanx David! I did learn (the hard way) how to do a decent Pearl White paint job.

Thanx! This makes the fourth interior I've done in Dull Red. Time to find a different interior color. But, it looks so nice with certain colors.
  7. I agree with Mark. I would use styrene. If you're concerned about flexibility, you can laminate thinner sheets together. Like if you need .040, two layers of .020.
  8. Comet also works well.
  9. Thanx Jim! I thinks it's going to look nice with the wheels and tires I have planned. And thanx to Paul who kindly sent me the rack and pinion I desperately needed, I'm back on this one until it's finished hopefully. I'm going to work on getting a rolling chassis first. I have to do some detail painting. Maybe I can get it together today.
  10. That is an excellent model Chang! Beautiful colors and so realistic looking! And your photography is so well done! I usually prefer outside photos. But, your studio photos are even better! Excellent work!
  11. The only downside with this kit is the door panel detail is molded to the backside of the doors. No door panels themselves. Other than that, it's a great old kit!

    '49 Mercury

Just wrapped this one up today. It's been a journey for sure! I'm really happy with how it turned out! Just like I invisioned it! It's a kitbash of an AMT '49 Mercury and a Revell Foose Caddy. The body is all I used from the AMT kit. The rest is from the Caddy except for the wheels, tires and disc brakes. Starting with the frame, it was shortened 9mms behind the front suspension and 4 mms in front. The floorpan and interior were modified to fit the Mercury body. Both needed some material taken away and some added. The interior is painted with Tamiya Dull Red. The floorpan is Tamiya Pearl White. On the body, the top has been chopped 2 mms and sectioned 3mms. Under the hood, I scratch built new inner fenderwells and grafted in part of the Caddy's firewall. The engine/trans, core support/radiator is from the Caddy. At the rear, I hinged the trunk, added a latch and rain gutters. The body is painted with Tamiya Pearl White with a coat of Semi Gloss Clear. The black is Tamiya Satin Black. Wheels are Aoshima. Disc brakes are Pegasus. Thanx for checking it out! Any questions, just ask.
  13. Nice looking Impala Nigel! I really like how the color looks on that body! I wasn't sure how the Keystones would go with the LT-5. But, they really suit the look it has. Nice work!
  14. That's a cool looking '48 Charlie! Stance is dead on! Is the color Tamiya Gray Green?
  15. Thanx Carl! Besides the paint snafu, this build actually went pretty well. Especially considering what I used to build it. No bad luck, I'll get it finished up today. I just have a few under hood details left to do. Thanx David!
  16. Looks like you nailed it this time Roy! In '84, I painted a friend's '66 C-10 long bed Flame Red in Vocational School. After I got the red painted, I got the idea to paint the grille, bumpers and tailgate letters black. I pitched the idea to him and said, "do it!". When I got the parts back on and he saw it for the first time, he went nuts over it! At that time, there was still a lot of those old trucks running around here. But, he had the only one blacked out. Someday I want to build one like it was.
  17. Nice looking Chevy truck! Are the interior decals from the kit? They make a huge difference!
  18. Very nice! I bought one of these mainly for the roof. But, I may have to build it.
  19. Both are very well done and the weathering is just right! I always thought I preferred the shorty LR. But, seeing them together, I prefer the LWB.
  20. I wasn't expecting to see a bone stock Taurus. But, that's just how they looked off the showroom floor.
  21. That is some excellent work Anders! I agree with Lee that the full scale didn't look that nice!
  22. For me, it's prep work as in panel lines and panel fitment. The best paint job ever can't cover up panels that don't fit properly or missing panel lines.
  23. This color looks pretty close. It's Krylon Pistachio Green.
  24. Miles, it's pretty close actually. Not exact by no means. But, the difference is partially in the lighting. My models are in the shade. The full scale is in the sun. If the sun were out today, I could take a photo. But, it's raining. What I do when picking a color, I Google it and click on images. It'll always pull up some models painted that color and you can see exactly what it looks like. Color of the primer could also change it a bit. My models are both over gray. White primer may get it right where you want.
  25. If you have enough paint, you can just polish the paint without clear. I just prefer to use clear as it gives me a guage when it comes time to polish. As long as I don't see color on my cloth, I'm safe.
