You've captured so much character on this build, looks really good.
-
Great work Tom. You've captured the look of that very nicely.

Nicely done. While a Veilside bodykitted Skyline is never going to be discreet, your paint colour choice does give it a slightly more subtle look.

Sounds like a classic bit of man maths there...... With huge thanks to @stitchdup I got this in the post: With no chassis and a few other parts missing it could never be restored and built-up without a donor. Luckily I have this brush-painted gluebomb complete with some of the optional parts. Out of the two of them I should have sufficient to build a decent road car and then have enough remnants left over to build a RWD converted short oval/autocross racer (basically anything that doesn't need glass, an interior or a vaguely accurate chassis). Thanks Les!

Wow, excellent kitbashing and parts box raiding there - from all those different sources it's come together really well. The finished result looks great.

Looks great. Very much of its time, very nicely built.

Thanks Carl.

Today I completed the final one in my series of builds to replace the sun-damaged originals, WIP thread on them all here: 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr As with the others, it's a fairly simple curbside kit but nicely-proportioned (certainly better than Fujimi's miserable attempt at the same generation of Skyline). 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I was able to use the original floorpan and Fujimi or Aoshima Work Equip accessory wheels. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The original version I did was painted silver. I tried that this time but the Tamiya SIlver Leaf looked flat and I had some issues when applying the BMF and painting the black trim so I went for Light Gunmetal instead. It was a popular colour for them, it reminds me of one or two grey imports I've seen here over the years. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Group shot with the others in this series, and the originals: 1:24 Tamiya kits, before and after by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya kits, completed by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

That is very nice, well done! The kit is amusingly small. I didn't know about the fitment issue, I shall watch out for that when I build mine.

The 21' Cannonball Ruse build thread

Agreed, it's made me build something different to what I'd normally do. I'm considering building another one with a NASCAR kit that doesn't otherwise get me very excited. Great progress Pete. I'm just finishing a build where I used the Light Gunmetal, I like it. My stepdad recently saw this rather smart Quattro: 1982 Audi Quattro by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1982 Audi Quattro by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I bet it sounded great driving up that high street. -
The poor mermaid looks like she's been harpooned! Great to see the the amazing work on this continuing.

I like the body colour, hope you persevere with it (and don't need to do any repairs/additional paint work!). Perhaps light grey for the interior?
-
Last WIP update on the last car in this series....... New bodyshell and original chassis/interior ready to be attached. The grey wash was my attempt at giving it a tweedy look. Had to replace the interior side panels as the originals had warped with the bodyshell. Most of the parts on the left were salvaged from the original kit. Nearly there, just a bit tidying to do on the 'black' trim paintwork and attach the plates, mirrors etc.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Spottedlaurel replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Did a little bit more on the Cadillac hearse: A first for me in working with wood and brass on a model. The deck isn't super-visible so this approximation will be fine. I'm probably going to paint the brasswork silver, to match the roofrack that I'll build in a similar manner. Also gave the grille a bit of wash, and a bit of thinned light grey on the various lenses. Hoping to finish this one up over the next week, so I can maintain my planned average of two completions a month. -
Good to see some more progress on it Stephen. I suspect we all get a bit of a block on certain elements of some builds.

Wow, what a colour! That looks great. -
Another stunner Luke, great to see it finished.

I'm making the most of working from home and finding a bit of time at the start of the day to get a bit more done on some current WIPs: Yesterday I finished the BMF on the Skyline and made a start on the painted bumpers and trim, today I continued with that and sorted the smaller components that are needed to finish it off. I also gave the wooden deck for the Cadillac hearse a final coat of varnish and finished painting the '67 Impala's headlining. Just noticed the black paint smudged on the door, oops......

Very silly, but nicely built. They brought a smile to my face.

They both look great, and the display adds a nice touch too. Good to see things like this getting built, I must get on with my Ice T someday.

Kitbashing,,,
Spottedlaurel replied to thomascoffey1959@gmail.com's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't seem to be able to build anything 100% box stock, even if it's just a change of wheels, but I must admit I'm trying to reduce the "lots of kits with missing parts" thing happening. I recently robbed a Corvette ZR-1 of its engine. Rather than put it back in the box on the shelf and forget about it I chucked it together as a curbside build, good to have something a bit different in the cabinet. I'm trying to maintain that policy going forwards - if I take the wheels from an otherwise unstarted kit then the donor will move up the queue. If/when there comes a time in the future when I need to start getting rid of some stuff then it'd be helpful to have a few complete kits to ease the process...... -
How many projects have you got on the go now?! I look forward to seeing it progress. I'm currently working on the AMT '67.

Good work there Snake, looks very effective.
