A Place For Build Ideas

I don't know that it hasn't always been here. The difference is that the super business moguls of the past wanted to build empires that lasted forever. Nowadays the corporates heads are out to milk a job for all it is worth then jump to something else and do the same. Empire building draws too much scrutiny. Better to get the big bucks and move on before the actual damage you've done is truly realized.

aluminum rod inside styrene tube
Beans replied to fiatboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This right here ^^^^^^^^^^^ I tried tubing over and over and never got a good result. Then I read on forums that a lot were using the solid and it bent well and held and that has been working for me ever since. -
Parasailing??

Considering most probably started with an exacto knife, tube glue and a model kit only, I think you are more than set with what you outlined. Now onto the idea of paint and some unsolicited advice from my, not so vast, experience. Figure out what type of paint you want to use and the delivery method. Everyone will tell you their ideas of what paints work great and what is horrible. If you want to go with lacquers start with lacquers. If you want to go with enamels...same. Figure out what is available within your time constraints and price range. Figure out if you want to air brush or rattle can. Then get to know your choice and practice. Get a technique down. Master one before moving onto another. I wish I would have done this earlier and instead just kept jumping from type of paint and delivery method to another because I was expecting instant results. There is a lot of great product advice on this forum but there is just as much minutia that can completely overwhelm someone new to the hobby. My only other advice is get a cheapo back up kit. There will be times when you just need something else to work on or test some idea on. Experiment and have fun. As they say, it's only plastic.

Hate to the be the Nuh UH guy, but the musical watch shootouts were from For a Few Dollars More. Between Lee Van Cleef and the villain (Don't remember the actor). Clint provided the second watch so when the music on the first stops, then you start to hears the second and they but to Clint with the watch, giving Lee the upper hand. One of the best western scenes ever!! Good Bad and Ugly was the three way standoff in the graveyard. Both epic scenes.

It looks better than the last iteration of charger. I just can't stand that front hood dip into the weird front spoiler thing, that I can only guess, is there to make it look less like an ultima or accord.

That place is a black hole for packages. I've had stuff go there and never ever come out.

cannonball 2025 Cannonball Run - Finished builds thread

#19 1964 Corvette Grand Sport This is the Accurate Miniatures Grand sport - debadged and painted in white pearl. No real major modifications to this one other than making sure everything fit together decently. Wired the engine, added seatbelts, fire extinguisher and cb radio to the interior. Added a side view mirror from a 67 impala (I think). -
Which vendors offer scale auto carpet?
Beans replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have used the felt adhesive backed sheets you can get in the paper section of most craft stores. It ends up being pretty thick. I too have gone to mostly embossing powder. It is thinner, easier to mask off areas and easy to remove if it goes a little astray. -

I'd build one...Just sayin, But I would put Pinto badges on it. -
Back in the late 80s (when I was in high school) Friday nights meant hanging out at the local McDonalds until somebody would stop by and announce that so and so was having a party. Then everyone would pile in our cars and go. What "so and so" actually had planned was a small get together. What happened was a lot more people would show up. Party would get out of hand. House would get trashed and cops would come. What the internet has done has created the biggest McDonalds parking lot ever. The "so and so" call goes out to the whole country and world. What happens? A LOT more people show up than planned. The party gets out of control, town gets trashed and cops come. Behaviors haven't really changed with time. The level of involvement has. I'd love to blame social media and reality TV for all of it (because I do despise them both) but in the end, we did the same stuff. Just on a way smaller scale.

Great book too. Also the follow on book and movie, Force 10 from Navarone.

The couple times I have done anything like that I just used white primer underneath and sanded the paint until it showed through in places. Also dry brushed some light grey in areas.

You'd think. This one hasn't been there very long. She's young and gets rambunctious. Once she gets over the fence (low electric job that evidently isn't on) she just hangs out.

Beans replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh man... That sucks. Sorry that happened. I think we've all been there in one way or another. -
Mold factory mistake. Ugh!!!
Beans replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had such a warped body that I didn't really notice the fender issue. I ended up getting drastic with the whole thing. Problem solved..... -
I think you are right. The grill to me looks a little bulky and that kind of throws off the front. Picture of the actual van for comparison:

#1 because of the amount of work that went into each detail. Things that someone who didn't know better, would have thought came that way out of the box.
