  1. Love those pics❤️?
  2. Here’s why you don’t freak out.... When I clearcoated this it basically turned out like sand paper on the hood. Careful and tedious sanding and polishing made it beautiful.
  3. AGREED.... The texture in the paint probably won’t be hidden completely in certain spots, meaning when you look closely you might see some slight texture variation under the clear, but it’ll look better and the surface will be super smooth if you sand and polish right, and since the only other good option would be to strip all the paint back off and try again, it’s questionable whether it would be worth it. That’s your choice. However you lay down the clear don’t expect to achieve a nice glossy finish and don’t freak out if it comes out dull or even slightly rough, because you are going to wet-sand and polish the heck out of this thing anyway. Do avoid spraying too heavy or too wet, however, because you don’t want runs or sags since they are harder to fix. Just focus on one nice, thin coat at a time. Stack another coat on another coat allowing some dry time in between. Take your time. ....Love that green!?
  4. The big fat fan blades are funny
  5. Also, I think that a profound mentality shift has occurred with much of the younger generation. Cars used to carry the allure of being fast, cool, picking up chicks, etc. Cruising up and down the strip every Friday and Saturday night to find parties and get stupid was the social life for many. Now days why waste time driving up and down a road when when you can get even more social interaction via the digital “super highway”? There’s also a movement of younger people who are concerned with the environment who are demanding serious change because they feel their future is in imminent danger. That mentality likely does’nt jive well with noisy, gas guzzling cars. The new trend in cars that they are more likely to be interested in is fuel economy, cuteness, reliability, electric, and a dashboard that has a lot of tech features built in that are compatable with their devices. Honestly, I have no interest in horse drawn stage coaches because they got replaced with something better, but now that “something better” has been replaced by something better yet .... but as for me, im still stuck in my old school mentality, at least when it comes to scale model interests.
  6. Good grief! ... What is happening here?! ... I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve noticed this thread, but now that I have I’ll be watching to the end for sure. And I’ll just say, this is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in 1/24 scale! Truely beautiful art Randy!
  7. Nice work on that GTO Anders?
  8. Yes, this is sad but true... in fact, not only the games, but everything about the internet is to blame for the loss of attention and patience in my opinion. Yes, instant gratification ... but I don’t think they realize that it’s not really that gratifying. If only they could get into a model build and really see their own creative potential come to fulfillment, then they would realize it. Its sort of funny though... I told my uncle who is very much into building 1:1 cars that are drivable that he should consider building models. I told him it was just as rewarding. Maybe even more since you can build the whole thing in the comfort of your cozy carpeted home while wearing slippers. And (in my case) when you feel like driving one, you just turn on Gran Turismo and pick the same car and drive it to limits you’d never dream of driving your “real” one. You get the whole experience. Lol! The first time I remember seeing built model cars was when I was about 7 and one of the first ones was a ‘55 or ‘57 Chevy set up kind of gasser style and it had a clear hood scoop. One of my uncles built it and had it on a shelf. I thought it was cool. But when I really got hooked was when I was about 10 and I met a neighbor kid across the street named John who was a few years older than me. The first time I went into his house he showed me the models in his bedroom and I was blown away! Most were military tanks, jeeps, airplanes, infantry, and transport vehicles. I couldn’t believe how real they looked with airbrushed camo and such. That was the first time I learned about Tamiya, because that’s what many of those kits were. So, in the beginning I was really into military models at a young age. He and I would sit at a big table together at his house every couple of days and work on our models, sometimes hardly even talking at all, but we were in the zone and that’s all that mattered. Said in Sean Connery’s voice... “Good times, good times.” PS, I’m still rockin’ a flip phone too bro?
  9. Had a smooth trade with Oldcarfan27... Traded a kit for some parts I really needed. Very happy with the outcome, and would certainly trade with him again. Thanks Patrick!!!??
  10. Nice work.... looks like a proper old school cop car. “The fuzz”
  11. I saw a Rolls Royce SUV. It was satin brown. Wish I could’ve gotten pics?
  12. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your input ... and that Nomad bumper looks excellent!
  13. Trevor, this is packed with info I needed to know ... Thank you for taking the time to sort it all out for me. On all my earlier models I just always used the Model Masters Chrome paint for my trim, but once I joined this forum I started to realize how much better the foil looked, and I had assumed that “BMF” was just a general term for any of the different brands of foil. Understanding the history now is a whole new revelation for me!? You have me wondering a bit now about the Molotow ... If the stuff actually does dull down over time in a container, I wonder if it can also dull down after years of being applied, and if so I wonder if a clear coat over it has any ability to protect that from happening? I don’t know how long it’s been on the market, so I don’t know if enough time has passed for modelers to have any definitive answers on this. Certainly would be good to know. Thanks again Trevor!?
  14. Not a weird subject at all. I too use lots of paper towels... airbrush cleanup and everything else imaginable. Brawny used to be my go-to brand until Walmart stopped stocking them and now almost every paper towel is their house brand (Great Value). At first I was torqued about this, but I started buying the GV Heavy Duty Split Sheet roles and now will never buy Brawny’s again if I have a choice, since the GV’s are way cheaper and seem to be the exact same durability/absorbency. Since they are just the half sheets instead of pick-a-square, I just pull off about 10 half sheets into a stack and then rip that stack in half.
  15. Scott, your Skyline is amazing! Super clean lines and details throughout, and a great color choice for that little car. The interior is incredible! ...For your chrome trim, did you use BMF and then accent with a wash, or is it a mask and spray application? It looks super!
  16. Looking through this thread it is interesting to see the various ideas used... Now, I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings, but for visual realism I think Beans’ upside-down shingle and Peteski’s roofing sheet are the best. EngineerBob’s looks really awesome too, but he admitted it was a more painstaking process.
  17. Glad to see this thead started! ...I just bought my first Motolow pen yesterday and was very impressed with it. So I went ahead and ordered a 30ml refill bottle off eBay so that I can use it to dip a detail brush in. Just last night I was wondering if you could airbrush this stuff... so now that I know you can I have some questions: 1- Do you just spray the Molotow straight? I assume any form of thinning is bad. 2- What should you use to clean your airbrush after using Molotow? 3- What do you use to clean the airbrush after using the sealer you showed? 4- What is the best way to purchase Molotow for airbrush use? Is there something better than the refill bottles like shown in the pic below?
  18. So is this the good stuff or the junk in the photo? .... I’m a bit confused because this is the only BMF I’ve ever owned and have done very little with it. Though I read many of the posts, I didn’t read them all, so I’m not clear what’s going on. Is this a COVID related production shortage? .... I’m all about finding products that maximize effectiveness for the hobby, so if there is a BMF that’s a lot better than what’s in my pic please explain. Thanks. Also, I just bought my first Molotow 1mm pen and am pretty impressed, so I ordered a refill bottle of the stuff so I can use a brush with it. Anybody got thoughts/experience on this stuff vs. BMF for chrome trim, etc?
  19. Yeah, one time I was watching Nash Bridges and some one asked him about his Curious Yellow convertible... and he told them, “It’s a ‘70 Cuda” .....but we know he was supposed to say ‘71?
  20. Thanks.... I’m so fortunate to have them. They’ve given me a lot of joy.
  21. Yes they are!... They are very well mannered, don’t get into stuff they’re not supposed to, don’t claw at anything but their scratching post, and don’t jump up on the counter top ... well, Nikko had to get trained on the latter ... but she learned. They also don’t complain about their food if they hate it... They just puke it up in a pile and stare at me until a give them something different... It’s all good times.
  22. Just this morning. It’s very rare when I get the two sisters in a good shot together... Nikko/Cookie?❤️
  23. Thanks!... And now I know why those wheels looked so special... totally custom?
