Show me your Revell '69 "429" Corvettes
The Creative Explorer replied to Monty's topic in Model Cars
I recently finished this one, must say that it went together very nice and the detailling is pretty good for a what older Revell kit. -
I am having an idea lately that I want to work out. Instead of a paint-booth, like we all have, I want to make a paint-chamber, a small, sealed cubicle of 4x4 or around that. Just enough for a bench and a seat. With a sealed door. I think this might be a good way of dealing with dust and stuff. It is easier to accomplish than a whole room and easier to clean. Plus you can use the remaining space for other things.

DAF Question
The Creative Explorer replied to Jim B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like jacobus said; just the cab is different. The normal XF has a somewhat smaller sleeper than the spacecab. That's it. -
Find yourself a Porsche 356 by Fujimi Enthusiast, that will give you a very nice platform to make a nice volksrod. With this kind of build, the engine will be a prominent feature and it would look silly with a simple or no engine. That kit should be available through Marktplaats for 15-20 euro's.

1/8 Jaguar E-type to be reissued!
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Correct, the biggest difference is the rear door, it opened with the Imai, but it doesn't no more. Not without work. I do like that the call me in your link 'someone who knows what he's doing' hahaha. Kinda funny to see your work elsewhere. @Heinz; I don't know him personally, but I know his hustling, not my cup of tea. Sure, one needs to live of something, but heis pulling legs to enrich himself. Maybe because you know him personally, you got a deal. But tell me honestly, getting a kit or 2 for 89,95 and put them directly for sale at 250 is not hustling? That is ripping off. -

Somebody is already trying to pull a leg: http://link.marktplaats.nl/774872025 Actually, that one somebody is quite a hustler on modelkits, most of his kits are made of gold or so he thinks. -
Renault 4L from Heller and Ebbro
The Creative Explorer replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That's just the thing, 'we' don't market cars with modelyears, only the Americans do. We market them as a pre or facelift model. If we do add year to it, it is the construction date, to determine the age of the car, rather than the US-way of a modelyear. I owned a Renault Clio II phase 1, a Renault 5 GTTurbo phase 1, A Megane coupe phase 2 and own a Renault 5 GTTurbo phase 2 and a Megane II. My GTTurbo is a phase 2 and can be anywhere from 1987 up to 1991, my Megane II is a phase 1 and can be anywhere from 2003 up to 2006. It is a culture thing, when pinpointing a European or Asian car, an American has to let go of the modelyears, as they are not used as such. @Geoff, I know what you meant, and looking at the picture again, it lookes like it also could be a R4 phase 4, in which case the term much earlier can be applied, sorry. I was referring to the original R3/R4, which has a significant different hood/grille. -
Renault 4L from Heller and Ebbro
The Creative Explorer replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
To answer the first part; yes and no, Most of the mechanical parts were pretty much the same through it's lifespan, but it changes in details a bit. But it isn't really 2 'modelyears' you are talking about, but like the french say '2 phases', like every European or Asian cars, every phase runs a few years without hardly any changes, unlike the American cars. The ebbro is a Phase 2, the Heller represent a phase 3/4. @Geoff, The Ebbro is not a 'much' earlier R4, just a little, it already uses the grille with the incorporated headlights, which can be easily solved with tooling just another grille and some bumpers. If you take the Phase 1 R4, the front end is different enough for it should be needing an all new hood, grille and headlights. -
Renault 4L from Heller and Ebbro
The Creative Explorer replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The box art of Ebbro states 1/24 and the brochure of Heller states 1/24. 1/20 is probably just a typo and my guess would be that they are the same kit, possibly a bit simplified on the Heller. But it is too much of a coincidende to have 2 Renault R4's at the same time. -

Note that the Ebbro is an older version of the R4 than the Heller. -

Testors Rolls Royce question
The Creative Explorer replied to bbowser's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not true, with cars, only a few cars have a multi-piece body and then only of the vintage cars. All modern cars have a one-piece molded body -

Depends when in it's live you talking about. When newly produced, it had many more parts. But it looses parts per mile, so in the end, you do have 88 parts left over -
1/8 Jaguar E-type to be reissued!
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Paul; I think you misread his post, although he is not very clear of what he is trying to say. It had nothing to do with the Jaguar, he only wanted to point out that the C2 Corvette in 1/8 scale is very simplified and looks like a small-scale kit enlarged. Personally, I love the E-type kit; I have built 2 so far and have 5-7 laying around, waiting to be build. Don't forget the kit is as old as the real car! It is nicely detailled and gives you all the basic building bricks to create a masterpiece from it. It is not like those 1/8 Monograms that lack serious detail and cut a lot of corners. For sure it isn't a Pocher either, but for what it is, what it costs, it is a very nice kit. When working on it, one seriously feels like working on a small real car. @Casey, not Revell AG, at least not that I am aware of, but since they are back to Revell USA, things could've changed again. However, I still believe we will see this kit being re released again soon. It has to be And if not within the next year, it certainly will in the next 5 years. -
1/8 Jaguar E-type to be reissued!
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
One can read that many different ways, I am quite sure, after this one-time-only-and-never-to-be-seen-again edition, Revell will soon come-up with a normal release. They have re-issued that kit many-many,many times, so they will. @Paul, now you mention it, I think I paid around 75 euro's for the last edition. 90 isn't that bad and it is even cheaper than the 1/8 Citroen from Heller. -

Even though it says limited, it probably will also be brought to the general market soon. Not sure yet if I find 90 euro's expensive.

Auto ID Quiz cheating
The Creative Explorer replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
To some; winning is more important than participating. Having their name on display as a 'winner', is very important..... I think I know which tactique Harry is mentioning, unfortunately, I miss most of the car ID quizes, but when I see it, I do like the hunt. it tickles my automotive knowledge -

Unusual new release from Diopark
The Creative Explorer replied to Rob Hall's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I can't say I am very offended by it, maybe it is more of a USA-thing. It isn't my favourite, but that's because I am totally not into army-modelling. If I was, it does represent a modern and actual scene. -
Another crazy ebay listing...
The Creative Explorer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is actually real, not a ghost-box. Columbia got a couple of kits from AMT or Revell (I forgot which) and mis-matched sprues and threw them together in these boxes. They were given away at the release of the movie as promotional tools for movie-critics and such. A very important fact was, that it was impossible to make a complete modelkit with the parts given with the kit. Just like a car from the movies; highly unreliable But no, it is not a ghost-box and is considered a collectors-item, due to the few remaining. Most have probably been tossed.
