Biggest pet peeves on builds.
Jon Cole replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This may or may not be what this thread is for, but it is started irking me, big time! Trying to help builders on Facebook. You cannot tell them anything. No matter how polite, or carefully worded. Read it; then re-read it. Take a pause before I hit "send". But the little darlings cannot be bothered to reconsider, or even research. They won't even consider visiting this site, in spite of telling them of all the great how-to's and such. Why do I even try? Today's lesson to myself was suggesting that piano wire, or even a paper clip is fine for making hinges. NOPE. "I ONCE HELD A TIRE TO A RIM WITH COAT HANGER WIRE, AND DROVE THE CAR HOME. IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME". Okay, then. Excuuuuse, me. LoL. BTW, that is an actual quote. -

Yikes! That's from beyond our galaxy! -
Good point. Never thought of it that way. Although, they could perhaps change that to Round8Models. No complaints here.

SMP/AMT '60 Chevy Apache LB
Jon Cole replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That's one tasty looking piece of 1960 Americana right there❕ -
Most of this seems off, dimension-wise. The front fenders. The body side not deep enough compared to the side glass. The whole thing sits too high. Of course, this is likely a 3-D print, but I do hope the final production is more accurate. Not that it will matter in my world, as I could never afford large scale, nor have the space to display one.

No, I should have, as I take the pics as I go, but my prob is I build at a glacier like speed. I bet this one has been on my bench for a year or more. I have most everything I need, except motivation. Really, I am almost done. Next I need to glue the floor to the body, then the roof. Home stretch. I'm aiming for a 2021 completion.

This is the second time this model has let loose a body panel. Can't remember for sure, but I think it was two part epoxy. The culprit is the silver base coat I used. The yellow plastic was first primed, then sprayed with the silver base coat. My inner panels popped off, exposing the silver paint. Makes sense, as the silver paint prevents bleed thru. Guess it also resists adhesion. I ground off what paint I could, then reglued and clamped.

1/25 AMT 1976 Chevy Vega Wagon Funny Car
Jon Cole replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
LoL! I was thinking of that when I saw the side box art. Did they have a special employee to distribute box art "quotes"? You see what I did there, right? LoL! The body appears too short, I assume to accommodate the shared chassis? I can see it, needs to be extended right between the rear of the doorline, to the rear wheel opening. On the roof, maybe a little further forward, at its highest point. Before you know it, your redoing the whole darned model!- 31 replies

Tooling for the clear parts unlabeled? What Einstein dreamed that strategy up? LoL. All I can imagine, is they were working for the moment. To them, they were just casting toys. Perhaps they couldn't ever imagine that the fruits of their labor would ever hold any interest many decades later?

As previously stated, MENG says it will issue large 1/12 scale FORD GT40 Mk II of Ken Miles. Molded in several colors. Any info on cost and availability?

Round 2 December 2019 Product Spotlight
Jon Cole replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I would have little interest in a fire chiefs car, so I am hoping that the '70 Impala has four clear headlight lens, as well as the two red tint inboards. -

No way is the Cybertruck, as is, a done deal. It is just a pre production prototype, and (I hope) will get a refinement as development continues. Be interesting if Elon keeps piping about "bullet proof windows", after that fiasco of an introduction. -

1966 American Coupe TypeC w/Blond Girls Figure by Hasegawa
Jon Cole replied to 89AKurt's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
So after ordering the previous issue from the Orient, sans lady, car in yellow plastic, lowrider version, they do this. Just my luck. But, what the heck, you should still order it. You get white plastic, a bikini babe resin figure, actual thin whitewalls on... something not quite Cadillac wheels. It is a crude kit that some say has JoHan roots. No engine, very promo like. Crude interior- the dashboard is literally a slab face, the raised edges of the instrumentation pods is represented by a decal, with lines. It (the decal) won't even be visible on a dark interior. You do get window plastic on all four sides- good if you want to try dark tinting. I personally wish it had a bench seat, instead has crude style buckets.
