What did you see on the road today?
Jon Cole replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not often do I need to ask "what is it?", but that is what I posted to social media when I saw one of these (photo grabbed from the internet). I thought it looked like a Karmann Ghia, but it wasn't. Or so I thought. Turns out, it is. A type 34 Karmann Ghia. From what I am told. -
Techno Bubble 41 Willys Bonneville car

That's just.... stunning! I don't know how you do that; as in design and layout. So convincing. -
That has to be one of the best looking race car graphic schemes of all time. Certainly an eye catcher. And your version of it looks great.

The return of Hemi Under Glass
Jon Cole replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The latest rendering shows the car sans rear deck lid, replaced w/ fastback "glass", and engine moved back. Should be awesome, if it becomes reality. -
I showed this to display the potential. I don't polish around side windows, roof pillars, etc. By polishing it right on the sheet, all the BMF material will shine.
-
Brand new sheet here of "New Improved Chrome" BMF. Looks more like aluminum than chrome. It responds well to a Novus 2, then Novus 1 polish, right on the sheet. Warning- it will leave a dirty, black soot smears to surrounding area, plus your hands and anything you touch. Use white cotton gloves, or an old tee-shirt. In the pic below, I did about a third of the sheet. Just wanted to see how it would look. Definitely worth the effort.

I found the pic on someone's Facebook post. Shame that nobody that was actually there, shared it here. I know some won't take photos at these things; "Somebody else will". Not always. I wish the photos were more clear.

You are correct, Rob. My bad.

Super Glue Accelerator-Home made
Jon Cole replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I just hit the glue with a pinch of baking soda. Nothing else. Instant cure. Tap out the excess, and wipe clean. Works for me. -
Replacement windshield heat formed
Jon Cole replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Heat forming, vs. Vacuuming, it's all the same principle. You must have a molding buck that is strong and sturdy. Below are some molding bucks I have made. The dome was for the Pontiac Banshee. It needed a riser, so the new copy wouldn't flow into a horizontal plane on the vac table. Even if you used a heat gun instead, a riser is still a good idea. Notice I drilled holes for vacu forming (not neccessary for heat molding). I didn't have epoxy putty, so I made a plastic buck for a chopped Bonneville windshield buck. I photographed it over a mirror to show both sides. Looks like I never did finish the surface, as it should be sanded smooth. Note the strengthening ribs on the inside. HTH. -
