  1. Can you tell us which specific kit you are working on, if the wheel cover and tires/slicks are all from that same kit? It's almost never recommended to use any type of adhesive on the tires, so hopefully we can help you get a more snug tire to wheel fit.
  2. LMK if you need measurements or better/more pics:
  3. Thanks, that rules out...dang, only one kit. Wow, thanks for sharing the info and pics, Craig. When was the tooling removed from the IA storage location and moved...to either China or elsewhere in the U.S.? Some of the tooling seems to have never left the U.S. (MPC 1/20 Ford Van, AMT Customizing Boat, AMT Datsun 280Z Turbo, etc.,), while some was sent to China. Did Ertl move the tooling sent to Mexico in the '90s back to the facility in Iowa?
  4. I'm safe by a decade, easy. Now, that Porsche 956 engine should swap right into the Type 2, right?
  5. I did "follow" the Review topic you posted of the Samba, but I don't think I ever went bk to look more closely at the parts images. Hmmm, roof from the Panel onto the Samba...:
  6. Was this the '68 El Camino/Soap Box Derby kit?
  7. Is this how the body came straight from AMT?
  8. Too bad these aren't in the Model Trucks section. Beautiful work.
  9. Based on the location of the paint breaks at the sharp bodyline, I would paint the gold first, then the black. I think it would be much easier to apply masking tape to the outside radius sections on the gold side than the inside radius sections if you were to paint the black first. The hood, roof, and trunk sections appear to be mostly straight lines, but the gold/black break on the bodyline is the tricky area:
  10. Wait a few years, and there will be a full "glue" coupe kit. I held out hope there'd be a panel version of the Type2.
  11. It depends upon which type of glue you are using. Now, you should not use anything like a liquid cement, tube glue, Ambroid Pro Weld, superglue, etc. as that will melt the clear plastic, so stick with something without a strong solvent component to it (lots of suggestions above), and apply directly to the lens edges of the headlight "bucket" edges, then place the lens, You aren't looking for a strong, chemical bond in this case, just something which will allow the lens to stay in place and not leave any clouding, etc. on the lens.
  12. Correct. This has been released a few times under various names, all of which are basically the same: http://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/791/0767-keep-truckin-ford-sedan RC2 reissued this kit along with the other "Switchers!" variants on the same base chassis, wheels and tires, etc, so they still exist, but not nearly as nice a starting point as the Revell '32 Ford Sedan IMHO:
  13. There was a lone issue of the AMT '50 Chevy pickup from 1997 which included two die-cast metal soda pop machines and a hand truck:
  14. Found some decent pic of an original(?) Pyro box and they are touted as "HOOD AIR SCOOPS", fitting right in with the other "DRAG"(!) version parts such as the "WHEELIE CASTERS"(!!!)
  15. The Revell snap-together BFG All-Terrian T/A 4x4 tires were like that: I looked at the molded-in-black Jeep Honcho version in an eBay listing, and they way the parts are arranged, there's no reasonable way the parts I have which are chrome could've been that way from Revell, so whoever had the kit before me must've had those parts plated.
  16. Right subject, wrong company. At least it's coming to fruition after 15 years.
  17. I wouldn't soak them in anything that can be absorbed into the tire itself. The cleanser suggestion above is ideal, and you can work the cleanser down into the tread grooves with a toothbrush. Barkeepers Friend is even better than old school cleanser, as it provides some dulling but is less harsh.
  18. What are the two parts at the lower left corner which resemble over-sized Cal Custom scoops? Also, could this be moved to the Model Cars: News & Reviews section? I think George posting this predates that section's existence.
  19. Those ejector pin marks on the underside of the floorpan, tho... Tires looks OK, but it looks like the tread depth is fairly shallow?
  20. That's going to be challenging to paint the recessed area black like that in a (your math is correct) 1/16" wide piece of plastic. I think I would aim for getting the plastic strip/trim onto the body straight and evenly, then use Bare Metal Foil to replicate the polished metal finish.
