NICE!!! I’ll be picking this one up!!!

GREAT find! It’s Prime Day (Days) tomorrow and Wednesday, so I’ll be interested to see what all else ends up discounted

Final update on this one, because once everything was painted it was just time for assembly. Got final polish done on the body (still in progress here): Assembled the engine and got it in the frame: Tires mounted to wheels… I like how the frame looks, assembled…never used so much black on a build! Then it was just a case of getting the headlamps in place, install the seats and gas tank, and glue the body to the frame for good: And once all THAT was done, final job (because it’s delicate) was getting the windshield glued to the frame with some canopy glue and then get that attached to the body…and…it’s about done! I’ll take some better photos and post them up…but that’s about a wrap on this one - thanks for following along everybody! Appreciate all the nice comments!

Applying Stickers - Not Decals But Stickers
OldNYJim replied to showrods's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would recommend Rapid Tac: https://a.co/d/dftzdqR It’s a solution made for the sign industry to aid in exactly what you’re asking about. You spray a little on the surface, apply the sticker, move it until you’re satisfied and then use a squeegee to remove the excess fluid from underneath whatever you’re sticking down. Won’t ruin the glue, have used it hundreds of times myself, doesn’t hurt any paint or plastic I’ve ever used it on. DISCLAIMER: I would test it first and practice before using it on a prized project - but that goes for any new product we use -
I don’t know which seller that is…but…you can try adding multiple items to your cart and then see if the shipping increases. I got my $18 ‘30 Coupes today! Well packaged by Overstock Hobbies…and came way before the estimated delivery date:

Yep, same here...the stuff we print is (generally) so small, I gave up on printing anything hollow to save some resin. Even with holes, I found it was tough to get the parts cleaned successfully so that they didn't keep weeping resin out of the holes...solid prints save me all that hassle.

Nice clean paint…and those flames look awesome!

Yes…but…if you do what I said in the post and scroll down to the other sellers: I think they show the $24.25 price because that particular seller is offering free delivery, but if you check the other people selling the same thing you can buy multiples at the lower price, contingent on paying $5.25 on top of whatever quantity you order…

Yep, I had one arrive like that…box a little damaged but the contests made it ok: Yep - had that same experience too!

Like a lot of people here, I use Amazon a lot for all kinds of shopping…kits included! Now and then I’ll see a killer deal, and I thought it would be good to have a rolling thread to share any great kit deals we collectively spot… Disclaimer: I have Amazon Prime, so I don’t pay shipping on MOST orders. If you don’t have Prime, you may pay slightly more than the price I note… First up… AMT 64 Cutlass, $9 plus $5 shipping (even if you have Prime): AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F-85 Convertible1/25th Scale Model Kit https://a.co/d/3UqOS8z Next up, Revell 30 Coupes for $18, also plus $5 shipping (note: scroll down, pick “Other Sellers on Amazon” and then you can order multiples from the seller Overstock Hobbies and only pay $5 shipping for as many as you buy - i just ordered four and only paid for shipping once) Revell 85-4464 1:25 1930 Ford Model A Coupe 2N1 Model Kit https://a.co/d/3JTEetc And Tamiya Porsche 959s, under $20 delivered: Tamiya 1/24 Porsche 959 TAM24065 Plastics Car/Truck 1/24-1/25 https://a.co/d/9vII6AC I have no commercial interest in any of these sellers - just wanted to share good deals as I spot them! Please feel free to link to you own bargains if you find any!

I’m still waiting for the NY street race they’ve announced a few different times…
-
These are $9 on Amazon right now ($5 shipping), so I grabbed a couple: And I didn’t really need any more of these, but they were $12.99 with Prime (now back up to the more sensible $22.99): I see deals like this on Amazon fairly often - would people be interested in a thread highlighting super-cheap Amazon deals on kits? @iamsuperdan, @Xingu @Dave Ambrose and the other mods…would a thread like that be allowed? I have no commercial interest in any of these deals…just would like to share, if allowed, with fellow builders…

Fair enough, was just curious how this came back up to the top

May I politely enquire whether you realize that this thread is 11 years old?

Stunning craftsmanship -
Thanks fellas! Just about wrapped up the paint this weekend…I’ve been trying to improve my clearing technique to get a better result pre-polishing, and it seems to be working: Not perfect, and it will still NEED polishing, but I’m getting better at laying down a nice smooth finish right out of the can… Cleaned up everything that will be chrome, shot it with primer, flat black and then dipped everything in Future to ensure a nice glossy base and then shot some AK Super Chrome: Used my favorite Vallejo tire colors on the 3D printed tires: And whilst I’ve been thinking about what I would paint the floor with, if this were a 1:1…carpet would be too impractical (without a roof anyway), paint would scuff, I didn’t want a bare-metal finish to distract from everything else…but I wonder if bedliner would be a good solution? It’s tough enough for the back of a truck, it would work well in an interior, right? To replicate the texture somewhat I stippled on some of this Crayola (!) texture medium, and then shot with a satin black: Got a pretty decent pile of parts now… Thanks for looking - more soon, soon as I’ve done more!

What was your first model car?
OldNYJim replied to Kit Karson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don’t remember what exactly my very first kit was, but it was a 70s van, molded in white, and my 6 or 7 year old self tried brush painting a perfect cross graphic on the roof to make it into an ambulance and was VERY disappointed when it didn’t look very good. From slightly later, I remember trying to use tube glue to assemble one of these… No idea who purchased this for me or where they found it…I was also disappointed with the poor results I achieved on this one… And then, one memorable birthday, I was excited to shake a gift to hear that familiar rattle of sprues…only to discover my best friend Johnny’s mom had picked out an AIRCRAFT kit. My dumb 9 (ish) year old self was massively disappointed that it wasn’t a car, but still attempted to build it so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings…dumb young me didn’t realize that planes can be cool too…and it did teach me how to apply decals… -
Interesting - I’m convinced that as a kid I received a birthday gift of a 1/32 Airfix MGB kit, but I have no idea from whom or where they got an English kit from…I guess it’s SLIGHTLY more feasible that my memory is correct if they were indeed available here at one point…

That’s gorgeous
