Well, it is a custom.

She did a seriously good job on this kit. The detailing is well done, the door shut lines are as good as anyone could expect from this kit, the build is clinically clean, and the paint is absolutely superb (gee Dan, maybe you should have her take a look at the finish on that black Pantera ) It certainly is a struggle to get this old kit together, though it is one of my favourite ever. Kudos to you, Tina. Exceptional work.

Cool looking Triumph. You captured the look of the typical SCCA racer very well. Nicely done.

I use the flex shaft on a variable speed Dremel, and I love it. Mine hangs from the ceiling just to the side of my bench. The Dremel has a metal bail attached to the back end if it. I have a piece of lightweight chain attached to the bail and the other end attached to a screw hook in the ceiling. When using the Dremel, it is hanging from the chain. When not in use, the bail itself is hanging from the screw hook. When not used for a long time, the working end of the flax shaft is stuffed into the screw hook also, which stows it well out of the way.

Methods for adhering painted polystyrene (?)
Bainford replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I pin everything mounted to a painted body. I usually use 1/32" brass rod to make pins, but also use .025" and 1/64" rod for pins where the small contact point of the object to be attached warrants it. All gluing is done on the inside of the body shell, super strong and zero visible glue. I have a Tamiya Mini Monte Carlo racer with the roof rack for the spare tires. The rack is pinned to the roof at each of the four roof rack legs. A fellow at a contest once remarked that the attachment of the rack to the roof must be very weak, given the lack of visible glue. He almost had heart attack when I reach down and picked up the model by the roof rack and shook it around. -
A very tidy quick builder. Love them old woodies, and good on ya' for putting a Ford mill back under the bonnet. Nicely done.

Cool build. I like the concept, and the colour really suits. Nicely done.

Seriously awesome build. I am blown away by your paint work. My mind boggles at having to paint all of that in three light coats. That's one of the coolest models I've seen in some time. Very cool, hat's off to you, sir. Very well done!

Very nice model, great detailing. That thing would be a blast to drive. Add weight and complicate - woohoo!

I can't see why not, Vettes are bloody huge. Mid engine or otherwise, I'm sure big or tall people will fit.

The original The Fast and Furious on TCM
Bainford replied to SfanGoch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very interesting. Just googled this up. I didn't realise there was a vintage Fast and Furious. I'll check it out. Maybe this one is actually not a waste of two hours. -
pricing at swap meet/show
Bainford replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
About a year ago I decided it was time to thin the stash, and pulled 150 kits to sell out of my stash of 500+. I set up a table at our local show, and did pretty well. I learned a lot (pretty much all of which is covered in this thread), and I had a lot of fun. I also had two large plastic bins of loose parts and another large bin a bagged junkers, and as mentioned above, the other modellers flocked to these bins in droves. Guys would root around for parts, then come by again and again for another dig. Also as previously mentioned, I brought along a friend, but almost as an afterthought. I was going to go it alone, but having a helper was hugely beneficial. I keep pretty decent records of my stash/inventory, and my intent was to jot down the kits I sold as I sold them, along with the price I sold them for. Of course, during the early morning rush and other times of high traffic I was not able to keep up with my record keeping. Next time I will have the list of kits for sale made up ahead of time so that me or my helper (who is not a model builder) can fill in the sold amounts more efficiently during the rush. -
A very nice build of a gorgeous car. Well done.

MPC Daytona Show transporter
Bainford replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I doubt it is that tough to put together. The parts count is fairly low. I bought one when it was re-issued thinking it would make a cool transporter for something interesting, but it's 1:1 engineering is quite weak and as a 1:1 concept it is unfeasible. I don't have sufficient interest in the kit to correct the engineering (which would likely require converting to conventional steering) so it's in my 'For Sale' pile, now. -
In terms of most commonly built, it would have to the MPC Dodge Chargers of their various guises. It seems that for some reason I have build a heck of a lot of those MPC Chargers over the years. Of those that I enjoy building the most, it would come down to the AMT 55 Nomad or the Monogram 70 Mustang.

Now THAT is cool! Is that a 550 with a roof? Man, it looks GOOD! -

I'm assuming this a photoshop and not a real car, but I love the clean lines on this. -
Autoquiz 384 - Finished
Bainford replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I must say, I quite like this. Looks like the lovechild of a 66 Galaxie and an early Datsun pick-up. It seems much more a truck than most of the 'cover all bases', gilded behemoths on the roads around here. -

Uummmm... There was a time when I was much younger, when I thought the 914 was about as ugly a car as one could build. I no longer feel that way, in fact with my affection for small bore mid-engine cars, I have come to really appreciate them, including their looks. This, though... this is a 914 that has truly been flogged with the ugly stick. -

... or 914 pick-ups? Actually, I quite like these. The design seems to work well. Another Troutman & Barnes creation (well, the red one, at least). -

Early Panamera, anyone? Thank Troutman & Barnes. -
What do you do with your built kits?
Bainford replied to Spitfire's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My wife was not crazy about models around the house. When she left ten years ago she took all of the china and valuable nick-nacks, but left her china cabinet behind. Now it's a model cabinet -

Castrol Super Clean and Easy-Off are my 'go to' strippers, but if they won't touch it (and sometimes they won't) I resort to brake fluid, which has always come through when the others wouldn't.
