I've read a few as a youngster, and I read all of William Campbell Gault's car and racing books, which are very similar. Oh, and of course Henry Gregor Felsen's book, Hot Rod. I also remember a couple of paperbacks that I got through a book program through school, called 'The Fastest Funny Car' and 'Road Race', which I wore out. Still got them somewhere.

IMC model car promo poster!
Bainford replied to 82coupe's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a copy of the Ivo poster above. I figure the target audience for these were the shops the kits were sold in. Regarding the stickers, I experienced weak stickum as well. I stuck mine to the wooden box I use to lug my models to model shows, but a couple of them curled up and fell off after a couple of weeks. The 'Street Rods' and 'MPC' stickers were the worst of mine, but the 'AMT' and 'Kat from AMT" have fared well. -
IMC model car promo poster!
Bainford replied to 82coupe's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed! At least they would be somewhat useful. I wouldn't mind hanging them on the wall of my model room, but the little boxes are pretty much useless. I don't know what to do with them. I did like the stickers for the short time they were available, though. -
Revell T3 Westfalia
Bainford replied to aquaflug's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
There are an awful lot of pot references on the windows of that van. There may be some nefarious goings-on inside. Nice work on this one. A very interesting build. -
Moebius 4x4 Ford

Excellent work on the Ford. You nailed the common work-a-day truck look. The distressed features are really well done and quite convincing. The muted colour fits this build perfectly. Very nicely done.- 29 replies

Excellent job on the Triumph. I have wondered what the Gunze kits were like. I have seen the Minicraft, et al kit and as mentioned, it is pretty basic, The Gunze kit looks nice. Does this kit have the soft rubber seats, etc? You have done some great work on this kit. Welcome back to the hobby.

What's the One Part You Hoard?

I'm seriously digging the apothecary cabinet. Awesome parts storage. -
What's the One Part You Hoard?
Bainford replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to hoard the better Ford 427 Cammer assemblies for years, but I find my interests have moved on now. Like the OP, I keep every decent headlight lens I can get my hands on. Trying to find good performance tires in 13" - 15" sizes is difficult, so I hoard away any of those I happen to find. Oh, and accurate steelies. 95% of the steelies out there are unusable absolute BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, including those offered in newly tooled kits (yes, I'm looking at you, Revell). JoHan had the best ones. -
What do you recommend for black washes?
Bainford replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I didn't realise the Tamiya washed came in colours other than black. I'll have to pick up some grey and brown. I've been using the Tamiya black panel line wash for some things. It does flow well, but I find it is too heavy for some applications. I typically use Tamiya flat black or semi-gloss black thinned A LOT with isopropyl alcohol, maybe 8:1 give or take, but I find the pigment particle size is too large when thinned to that degree, especially with the flat black. I'm still looking for a very finely pigmented paint that is suitable for black washing, that is not a gloss paint. I know some people use thinned black inks, and I'm thinking of investigating some of these. -
Good looking Mustang. You gotta love the Boss, and they always look in grabber blue.

Very nice work on the Ivo ride. the headers look great, as does the colour selection. I have a couple of Ivo builds coming up, and I will try to duplicate the colour you mixed up for the FED. Cheers.

This is a very nice little kit, and you are off to a good start. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Back about 15 years ago when I was getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus, this was the first kit I built once I was back in the saddle.

Nice work on the Mustang. You did a great job applying the decals. I'm glad to hear they have held up well as I have a 90s issue of this kit that I would like to build someday. I have also wanted to get my hands on one of those Zakspeed Capris for years. Your Mustang and Capri displayed together look awesome. Nicely done..

Heller 1949 Talbot Lago Grand prix racer
Bainford replied to samdiego's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I really appreciate the review of this kit, thanks for posting. I have been interested in some of these old Heller race car and classic car kits, but know nothing about them. This review helps. Cheers. -
That is some exceptional work there. beautiful models and nice clean work all around. I am really digging the Daytona and the Miura.

Yes, need more Lotus. Audi V-10, eh? That must have been a shoehorn job. The Audi lump may upset the chassis balance, but in that light weight Lotus, it sure would be a rocket. Cool project! I like.

Very tidy, and excellent attention to detail. Impressive build.

How important are panel lines to you?
Bainford replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the recommendation, and the link. I just went to the site and purchased this scriber. I have few scribers already, some bought and some made, but I really like the look of this one. The site itself is a great site for tools. I never knew of this place. Cheers. -
In the case of white styrene, white letters are easily created by scraping a little paint.

Very cool. Love it!

What is a 'promo' model?

I have an AMT 64 Galaxie kit with features called out in text on the chassis as well. -
Looking for tips on adding detail to a black interiors?
Bainford replied to slusher's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I keep about 8 or 9 different variants of black paint on hand such as Humbrol, Testors, Model Master, and Tamiya and others in matt black, semi gloss, black chrome, rubber, etc. They are all slightly different, and by painting various parts of the interior in different shades of black, it avoids the 'everything from the same can' problem. -
Great looking Charger. Very clean details. Love the steelies and dog dishes.
