  1. Very interesting stuff, Justin. I just had a thorough read of the linked dossier. The paint line-up includes some very interesting colours. I am quite interested in trying a few of these. Hopefully they are easier to ship to Canada than some lacquers and enamels seem to be. Thanks for posting.
  2. I've done the 'glueing blades together' thing a number of times. The blades are .020" (0.5 mm) thick, so with two glued together, your cut tape will be .020" (0.5 mm) wide, which is a scale 1/2 inch. That's still pretty wide for in-scale pinstripe, but it can be difficult to work with tape narrower than that. There are some hobby pinstripe tapes available that are as narrow as 1/64" (roughly .015") which scales out to 3/8 inches wide. They come in a variety of colours, but the thickness (height) of the tape can throw off the look. Line-O Tape is one brand that comes to mind, and I think Detail Master marketed some pinstripe tape as well. The mask for this hood was created using three blades glued together, to cut the pinstripe and edge of the flat black at the same time. This pinstripe was created using 1/64" pinstripe tape. I think it was the Detail Master brand. The thickness (height) of the tape is evident when viewing the model. Also, this model was built over ten years ago, and over time the tape has 'pulled in' at the corners. The stickum at the tape edges is also a dust magnet.
  3. I wouldn't mind if it had the five slot wheels from the Smokey the Convoy Chaser version.
  4. $77.00 CDN at my LHS. (takes a deep breath, reaches for wallet).
  5. Welcome to the forum, Jorge. Some good looking models there. Nice work. Looking forward to seeing some more of your builds. Feel free to post them up when you get a chance. Cheers.
  6. Very cool, Ken. I was not aware of a show at Scotia Pine. Is it an annual event?
  7. That's a beautiful stockcar. I love the Wood Bros paint scheme, some of the prettiest cars to race NASCAR. Very nice work on the Cyclone, and your collection of Wood Bros cars is very cool Nice work.
  8. Man, those Montegos are the most unlikely NASCAR, but do they ever look cool. Very nice work on this one.
  9. Stunning model. Beautifully clean work. I'm not a big Bimmer guy, but that thing is gorgeous.
  10. Nice looking El Camino. Looks good in the soft colours.
  11. I finally got around to reading this one. Great tip, and well illustrated. This is very useful for sure. Thanks for sharing.
  12. I have just found this thread, and spent a couple of very enjoyable hours reading through it. You have wickedly impressive model building skills. This is just a stunning model, and so complex. Mind-blowing detail, and so skillfully applied. Seriously impressive. Having found it, I am now tuned in for the rest of the ride. Cheers.
  13. I have found a guide coat to be very helpful when attempting to make a subtle correction in the shape or curve of a kit's body panel. It can show me where I am making progress, and where I am just following the existing curve.
  14. Welcome to the forum, Jerry. Cool old-school chopper. Cheers
  15. Welcome to the forum, Ken. It's a great place to get back into model building. Lots of inspiration and helpful people. Enjoy.
  16. Welcome to the forum, Bosco.
  17. Oh man, that's a beautiful Jag. All those years being a good boy paid off. Noting provides the grins like a fine vintage sports car. Cheers.
  18. Yes, pre-paint all of the parts before assembly. Some parts that will be painted the same colour can be glued together as an assembly prior to paint, if it's convenient to do so.
  19. Everything is looking great. Nice work on the wheels and tires. Huge improvement. And yes, 'scouring pad' is a word in English. It worked well.
  20. Great looking Skoal Bandit! Harry would be pleased. Well done.
  21. Welcome to the forum, Tommy. 47 years is quite a break. Some good looking models there, really like the Beverly Hillbillies cruiser. Cheers.
  22. Exactly. This has nothing to do with paint brands, and everything to do with incompatibility of paint types. If the primer on this model was painted over with any other brand of enamel, there would likely have been no problems. Similarly, if Rustoleum made a lacquer paint, and it was applied over Rustoleum enamel primer, this reaction would likely occur. There is absolutely nothing wrong with mixing brands. Many of us do it all the time with excellent results. It is perfectly acceptable to do as long as one has a basic understanding of the different paint types, which, for hobby purposes, is not at all complicated (this statement ignores the introduction of two-part or 2K paints, which I won't comment on except to say, best just to avoid it altogether for hobby use). For example, Duplicolor primer, covered with Tamiya lacquer thinned with Mr Color levelling thinner, and cleared with Alclad works great. The key is that they are all lacquer compatible, and the combination was tested beforehand. Once a little experience is gained, one can move forward with confidence. As Steve mentioned, a newby who finds himself confused by all this paint stuff and 'plays it safe' by selecting all Tamiya products may find he has a frustrating and discouraging mess on his hands, since Tamiya markets acrylics, enamels, and two types of lacquer paints. A potential quagmire of incompatibility. It is important to understand the basic issues (they are not difficult), and not just blindly choose products because they are the same brand. Additionally, instructing others to 'stick to one brand' stifles experimentation, which is a fun and interesting aspect of our hobby, and has led to some excellent discoveries over the years that many of us now take advantage of. The key is to test before committing to a kit. Also, screwing up the paint on a kit is not the 'end of the world' event that some people make it out to be. Just chalk it up to experience, strip it and move on.
  23. Just found this in my junk folder, also from Mr Humble on Sept 17; Sorry to bother you, are you available on email for a few minutes? I'm not available on the phone! Thank you
  24. Great haul. I had no idea this kit existed. I would be very interested in your opinion on the quality of the engine/transaxle and the body.
  25. Welcome to the forum, Alex, and welcome back to the hobby.
