The Museum is located in a small industrial park in Sandy, which is in the south end of the Salt Lake Valley.
Museum trustees have been trying for years to get some sort of dedicated building and funding to acquire and support it. There have been pleas for modelers to contribute to the Museum to help support it financially. Most of the funding comes from the pockets of a few donors and the trustees.
The latest email sent regarding this year's GSL show describes the seminars to be held and includes the following:
"Status Report of the International Model Car Builders’ Museum. In anticipation of the Museum tours the following morning, please gather with others on Friday night to enjoy a presentation of the latest Museum acquisitions, including our recent acquisition of an important collection of models and ephemera from the famed Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild. We’ll also talk about Museum and programs and the need for your help in preserving this unique repository of our hobby’s history. A “contingent matching grant” offer will be unveiled which can lead to us acquiring a permanent building."
