its that you sometimes forget what about some of the items you have collected. I recently was able to unpack my complete stash of kits and get my bench fired up again. While I was looking for a old 40 ford body I remembered I had stashed in a box , I found a galloping Ghost II rails, some report decals for other projects, and the roof someone gave me to try on a custom Nova project I had stopped on many years ago. When i went to check the roof on the Nova (a pretty good start) I also found the beginnings of one my wilder projects. Hosted on Fotki

What did you see on the road today?
Scott Colmer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw this very nice Z28 on the road yesterday. Deep black and very straight. Hosted on Fotki -
Well done! Be sure to show us the set when it is complete. I've always been a fan of Rob Hall. Very innovative!!

Harry, You have had some tough breaks, but from our work together I can say that you embody the kind of strength that will take you through this. I am wishing the best for you. I agree with Micheal Hill - being home will put you in a place of additional strength. Plus your friends, and family will be closer to you. (Your models too.) All good stuff. We are all pulling for you. Scott

Congratulations Jim! I think cigarettes are one of the most addicting things out there. I started smoking when I turned 21..Drink, smoke, drink, smoke. Then it was just smoke. I quit when I met my second wife. By that time I was down to just a couple smokes a day. One day about 6 years later, I was talking to my 95 year old grandfather, who quit on Christmas Eve when he was 60 (he started when he was 14 and he was a 2 packer) I asked him if the craving ever goes away. He said not completely, but they are not as strong and easily pushed aside after a second or two. He was right. I know if I ever take one puff again, I will be back full force. Stick with it.

Your Rarest Built Kit.
Scott Colmer replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I built this Flameout about 12 years ago when these were pretty hard to come by, so this should count. I bought this one from a private collector. He gave me a deal at under 100.00 dollars. The kit was in good shape. Hosted on Fotki The Scorpion has not been reissued yet. It was also fairly hard to find. E-bay turned one up, but it was a little over the 100.00 mark that was started but in good shape. Hosted on Fotki -
Making windows, clear styrene sheet or acetate?
Scott Colmer replied to crowe-t's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Good luck with it, Snake. It's pretty easy. While I like the heating upgrades suggested above, I can say the open flame has worked well for me so far. -

I'm with Mr. Snake. I scavenge clear plastic wherever I can. Right now is the season for clear box covers. The plastic in new shirt colors works well too. If you need a compound shape you can use the original kit glass and form it using heat. I tried using Evergreen clear plastic, but it is too touchy. In the pics below I used plastic taken from a box of christmas cards. Step 1 - Secure your buck. That's what you are going to use to shape the windshield. Step 2 - Heat the plastic over a flame until it sags a bit. You may waste some before you get the right softness. Hosted on Fotki Step 3 - Pull it over your buck. Hosted on Fotki Make a few copies and try to have at least two keepers in case you over trim one when you are fitting it. Hosted on Fotki I've also use this technique to make one-off pieces like this seat that needed to flex a bit to fit in the chassis. Hosted on Fotki Scott -
I knew Spencer had bad idea. Negan don't like sneaks and cowards. Spencer should have gutted it out. Oh wait...... ; )

What a great looking model. That's some fresh air to see a simple car done so well. Nice work!

How to pronounce Porsche
Scott Colmer replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
LOL. You sound like my Mom. She always corrects me on that. The joke is when she hits the lottery she will buy me a Porsh-uh. I say "a Porsh?" The she says "Well forget it. If you can't even say it right the you can't have one." I say, "What about a Lambo?" -
Whats your work area like?
Scott Colmer replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's mine. It was abandoned for about a year. I just got it going again. The Zombie Gnome was the first thing off the bench in a couple years. I broke with the hose and had to piece it back together and repaint it. Now there's a model in the works. Hosted on Fotki -
Many years ago I made the bottle on this car out of a pillow from a van kit. I had no styrene at the time. Still, it is just a matter of gluing enough chunks of styrene together, then filing to shape. The label (not visible) was cut out of a magazine. The knob is just filed plastic. Hosted on Fotki For the engine, I went with a hard line system. The lines are the wire from twisty ties that have been polished with fine cloth then polishing compound. Hosted on Fotki

I remember that one. It still holds up very nicely! Any significance to the SAM plate?

Just got this off e-bay for a pretty good price. It looks like only the grill is missing, but it has an extra V10 engine. I can see it lowered a bit with slightly wider tires and opening doors. The rears would be suicide style. Hosted on Fotki

$30+ kits - hows it affect you?
Scott Colmer replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's slowed me down a quite a bit. I don't buy on a whim anymore. But some of those reissues just can't be passed up. A couple weekends ago I took a trip to the Hobbytown for the first time in many months. I got 1 model, (Der Beetle bus) and some supply the I can't remember. it cost $42.00 Wow. I troll eBay on a regular basis. Every once in a while you can get a good kit for under 15.00, shipping included. I recently got a unbuilt 70 Camaro for 3.00 , 10.00 after shipping. -
Did ya guys notice that Fox is now showing the NHRA Pro Mods? You still got some variety there. 3 different types of boost and and many body styles. Fun to watch too. Closest thing we have to altereds in modern times.
