The Official EBay Discussion Thread
Scott Colmer replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think I sold 20ish so far. I usually post 4 a week. I'm not in a big hurry. I'm going with the high dollar stuff first before it gets reissued. -

It most certainly can be my fault. As far as I can tell, I tried to put a decimal in there and it dropped the decimal. 4.6 became 46. I will be checking my listing before posting. The Uncertain T went for below what I paid for it. At least the auctions with the error are done. 500 more kits to go. Live and learn. -
216! Whoop! I agree. That feature car is amazing. Might be a 3D work in there.

Excellent rendition of a stunning car. I really enjoyed the story behind you recreation of it. Kudos on including the original engine too.

Your biggest blunder
Scott Colmer replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is always a fun topic. I would say the biggest blunder was one that I could not fix. When I was 10ish. I decided to turn a flying wedge dragster into a side-by-side canted twin engine racer. I managed to increase the engine opening with reasonable skill. Then it got the hand painted back paint. I was in a hurry to dry it so I set it by a light bulb and went outside. When I returned the rear of the body had gone completely Salvador Dahli. Unsaveable. Some I managed to fix: Crushing a body between my legs when I dropped it while sanding. Spraying a an original (before the reissue) painted Flame Out water tank with white paint instead of clear. Then trying to use thinner to wipe it off and erasing the detail. Then knocking the same finished model across the bench, basically disassembling it it. Trying to modify a pedal assembly with a razor saw only to have it flung against the back wall of the bench Again, dropping a model that was almost finished because I could not resist one more mock up There are a lot more, but those are the first to come to mind. -

It might be me, Len, but on the batch I had two listings that included a huge dimension in one of the fields. I am pretty sure I entered the correct dimensions since I took time to measure the box. Since I got I got a bid, eBay would not let me correct the dimension. I have been answering message about the outrageous shipping ever since. Super frustrating. -

I should have been more clear on the Uncertain T saga. I bought it for around $250. I added in the missing parts. It was a disassembled kit. It sold for $250 on eBay. The buyer was upset about the glue marks and asked fo a refund. To have the kit shipped back to me so I could resell it, cost 35.00. Going forward, I am going to post a fixed shipping to avoid the calculator issues which have turned out to be an eBay PIA. -

Man! I'm selling off most of my collection through eBay. Too old to build them all. First was the Uncertain T. It went for what I paid for it many years ago, except I added the missing parts. It was fully disassembled. All the parts were pictured. The buyer returned it because of glue marks where the headliner was attached to the underside of the roof. He gave me a couple written smacks along the way. OK I did not picture those marks. Who would have thought they would matter if they would be covered up. That cost me 35.00. I relisted it. This time the eBay shipping calculator somehow managed to increase one box dimension so much that shipping is up to 250.00! I am sure it is some sort of auto fill in. I went through customer service. eBay will NOT let me correct it because someone bid on the kit. I am soooooo frustrated. I keep getting emails asking why the high shipping. I updated the description, but guess not everyone gets that far. So then I added a picture with the correct shipping, but eBay again in their messed up wisdom would not let me make that the lead picture. My fear is that I will not get bids because of the dumb shipping. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Same thing happened with a QuickSilver I listed. I'm going to try Offer Up to see how that works. -
Another vote for Lou.

I recently lost 10 cans of red spray paint I bought to paint some lawn furniture. When we sold the furniture instead, my wife told me to take the paint back and get a refund. I looked for that paint for days. No luck. I finally convinced her I must not have bought it. About a month later, there is a bag in the middle of the floor of the laundry room. "What's that?" She says, "Look inside." I did. Red spray paint. "Where was it!" "By the exercise weights." That explains it. True story.

Fisheyes with 2K clear
Scott Colmer replied to Marc Weller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was trying to lay Splash 2K clear over Tamyia silver and got nothing but fisheyes. I tried a box for letting the silver gas out and laying on thinner coats. Nothing worked. I had to go to Tamyia clear. The only thing I could think of was the air pressure in my brush was too high. I've used Extreme Colors 2K over their paint and had no problems. Maybe I should use Splash 2X over Splash paints? -

Great site. First modeling site I joined. I've been a member since..... hmm.. 2002? -
Oculapanids! Invented by Floyd Paxton. He never was able to get the patent for it. I researched these when I got tired of finding bread bags with the end folded under. Figured if the wife and kids knew the history of that neat little idea, they would be more likely to use it.

What did you see on the road today?
Scott Colmer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"iv often wondered, with as long as that cars been around, and all the stuff its done. how much of the original Camaro is still there?" Hmmm. Did not know about the fire. Here's BR at El Mirage in 2000. I did not see a full pass, so no speed to share. Still, I like how they did just about EVERYTHING with that car. -
I'm glad you posted this tip, Ray. I have a flat of twists I located some years ago. They have lasted me through several projects. It is pretty easy to strip of the green paper just by cutting along the wire with an blade. Your fingernail can finish the clean up. They do polish up, but being metal, they oxidize even with a coat of wax. I use them for brake hardline and engine plumbing. The hard lines for the NOS system seen below are made from them. You can see how they oxidized. Maybe a clear coat would help?

My son sent this pic. He works at a wine shop in Minn. He said the owner stores cars for people sometime. There was a Mystery Machine painted Econoline, but this one really got my attention. I would have gotten a picture in it. But that is me. -

RRR - Wow. I check out the Fotki on the top. That is a lot of surgery. Came out great! The grill angle looks dead on too. - Back on topic. -
post your homemade tools for building!

Love that lap joint tool! -
Yes! One of my father's cousins - like maybe 18-20 yo built car models. Great Grandma had them on a shelf in the TV room. When I built the first release of the S'cool bus I was so proud to add it to the shelf. When she died, my father's family converged on the house. I never had a chance to get those models.

Yes!!!! In fact I opened a sealed Rattler back in 2005 or so just for that smell. It wasn't there, but I was able to devalue the kit by a few bucks. The first kit I built was to reassemble a Monogram Black Widow found at the bottom of my Great Grandma's toy box. There were parts of a Long John in there too. I was 4 or 5. By 10 or so my room was filled.

Can anyone recommend a good horror book?
Scott Colmer replied to Mike C.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Another vote for The Shinning - by a long shot. I've read a lot of horror. The Kubrick movie was terrible compared to book. Don't see it if you have not. Makes the book all the better. -
Indy 500 Hall of Fame set
Scott Colmer replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I'll be watching too. I have one of these from the 80s. It will be fun to watch you work through it. -
Hey Steve, I just finished mine. It is featured issue 215 and 216 of Model Cars Magazine. The body on mine was excellent - except for the tapered rear as we noted. The rest of the kit made for a more advance builder. (No parts ID on the tree. Yikes) That makes your upgraded version all the more impressive. Your 1:1 is a stunner too! Scott
