Second that! Charlie Larkin

$13 for a 3-pound bag? That's a steal, especially if it's good coffee. Almost worth a Costco membership just for that. Charlie Larkin

I had a reality check. Leaving the hobby.

I've noticed this, too. I wouldn't sell all, Dave, and it sounds like you're not, which is good, although it's not always bad to downsize a little, either, or re-orient your collection to fit interests and needs. As difficult as caring for someone with memory issues is, you need to take care of yourself, too. Right now, we're dealing with the inevitable coming with my grandmother- her mind is okay, but that's about all that is. At 104, that she has done as well as she has is utterly amazing to me, and everyone else that knows her. Hang in there, and you always have us to talk to for any reason. Charlie Larkin -

Ah, okay. When Rob first moved down to NYC- he went to Williamsburg- I know. I loaded my late, lamented Caprice to bear and drove him down from Providence. I'll keep that in mind. Next time I head that way and can plan a bit of urban exploring, I'll be in touch. I'm assuming it's accessible by subway or bus? When I get to Rob's place, my car usually stays parked. Being the resident Armenian mix (Mom's side of the family,) I've developed a liking for different food. Karrie makes her kapusta with apple juice, which is really good. Kielbasa, potatoes, a little bit of onion and some carrots. Tasty. I'm going to try making some sometime. Bigos sounds good. A bit deadly, but good. Sounds like I need to make a visit to your part of Brooklyn sometime. Sounds like some very good food to be found around there. One of my best friends- the guy who's closest to a brother for me, lives in Red Hook, and a girl I went to high school with lives in Park Slope, and they're not real far from each other (literally a few streets.) Where are you in relation to those parts? Charlie Larkin -

There's one little store in Worcester, Ma., Golemo's, that carries fresh Polish stuff. Never been there, but it's supposed to be quite cool to visit. I didn't realize paczki were made year-round? I looked up zimne nogi. I think I'll pass on that and czarnina. Kapusta is good, though, at least the way my friend makes hers. Charlie -
Looking great, Steve. Charlie Larkin

Not bad at all. I was going to say I think the recently-reissued MPC 1970 AMX has Torque-Thrusts as an option, but it looks like the problem is fixed. I'll look forward to seeing what comes of this. Charlie Larkin

Looking good, Eric. Hope your daughter is doing well. Charlie Larkin

72 Olds Cutlass Hartop/Missing Link Resin DONE 01/30

Very nice work, Tom. I really like the exhaust look- really looks like the car has been driven some, but is still new. How did you do the effects on it? Charlie Larkin -
Not bad at all. Very nice, actually. Charlie Larkin

What do you drive?
charlie8575 replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Do the '03-up Panthers really drive that differently? The newest one I've driven (that I can think of) is a '98. Charlie Larkin -
Will we see a new '63 Plymouth?
charlie8575 replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wouldn't mind one of these. As long as it can be built as a stock car as well as a dragster or something like that. Seriously- if that's what it takes now, I'll pay an extra $5 for a second engine/transmission and set of tires and wheels. If I were to do this, I'd offer a choice of a Slant Six, a wide-block 318 and some kind of fire-breather, like a 413 Max Wedge. Like the 1961 Pontiac, I'd offer the bench and the bucket option for a race car (assuming it was offered as such.) I'd really like to see a 1963-'64 wagon. They're actually nice-looking cars and I remember seeing at least a few used for drag applications. Simply flash over the short wheel-base wheelwells, show where to cut the driveshaft and go to town. Unfortunately, it is full. Send me a message via Facebook and we'll work out the details. Charlie Larkin

Cool, Mike. If you decide you want to sell your '50, please let me know. It's close enough to my great-grandfather's '49 that I'd be happy building that. Charlie Larkin

Steve's right on the money. Testors enamels will work nicely, but you MUST use primer under them, especially the metallic colors from my experience. Metallic paint tends to be semi-translucent, as opposed to non-metallic colors, which are solid. Their lacquers are great stuff; go on smoothly, look very nice and have good color depth. But, like the enamels, primer is needed for best results. For stripping, I like oven cleaner and Purple Power/Super Clean. That green is nice- not too far off from Cadillac's Kensington Green of 1959, although a bit more metallic. The interior is paired with the dash in the same color, but with a semi-gloss topcoat applied (the real cars were painted with the exterior color that had a flattening compound mixed in.) The carpet, seat bolsters and the bulk of the door panels should be dark green. Testors Beret Green with a small amount of flat white to lighten it a shade or so, is a good choice. The pleated portions of the seats and the inserts in the door panels should be white. And yes, prime the interior as well. Charlie Larkin

I've always wanted to do a Canadian Dodge. This provided a good opportunity at a reasonable price. Next stop is the Modelhaus for finishing parts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/141886577756?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Charlie Larkin

The continued benefits of technology...
charlie8575 replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The TV in our living room is about to give after 34 years. When I was on my own before I moved back home in 2010 when the world went sideways, I bought a nice Emerson 20" stereo TV. Not a pancake TV, but it was the style that had the flat glass panel over the tube. Great picture and very good sound. Wal-Mart special for $99.97. I don't know, for whatever reason, I've never been impressed with the pancake TVs, the pictures never seemed quite right to me. Charlie Larkin -
Modelhaus email response
charlie8575 replied to khier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Although I've never dealt with Reps and Mins (but have met Norm once or twice and know many people that have,) and have bought a fair amount from The Modelhaus, I will vouch without any reservations at all for every word Tom said. Charlie Larkin
