Gerald Wingrove has passed away.
iBorg replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had a brief conversation with Gerald Wingrove about ten years ago via email. First it was amazing that he responded. I learned both he and my father had spent time in High Wycombe in the same time frame. My father was into model trains and marveled at some of the English model makers. I asked Mr. Wingrove if he for chance knew Dad. Sadly he didn't recall Dad although I do believe Dad was inspired even then by some of Mr. Wingrove's work. I think the skills Gerald Wingrove and a few other world class craftsman possess are the true artists of the hobby while most of us are skilled craftspeople. -
I looked at one of these and am wondering if you might be able to open up the grill by sanding the back of it. Anyone tried it?

I'd love to find the Atlas Oil Tool decals.

Besides the Slixx decals for the LA Hooker, are there any other Maverick funny car decals available? Thanks!

Beverly Hillbillies
iBorg replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Just those two pictures tell me I want to watch this one. I'd love better interior pictures. Already it looks more "right" than 95% of the builds of this kit. -
Chad Little Thunderbird
iBorg replied to Super28's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
I followed Chad in those years. The decals are JNJ's. I felt Chad had great potential, which he showed in Busch. The 19 was a family single car operation. In that car he was relatively competitive as a have-not compared to the have of Rousch, Hendrix and the like. He went to Busch after driving briefly for Cale Yarborough's 66 car. Chad was one of several drivers that could not make that car competitive. He finished second in Busch Cup a couple of years after that. He was leading but his team got John Deere sponsorship and announced a switch to Pontiac and their Ford support dwindled. When he ran the Pontiac in Winston Cup he often finished best in class behind the Chevy's and Fords. The team was bought by Roush and converted to Fords. His son Jesse is trying to get a foothold in trucks. He often runs top ten with a shoe string budget team. Thanks for showing this survivor. -
NHRA legal- Small block. NHRA was very specific mini cars had small blocks. I don't think he ran a big block in the early Vega. He might of ran a big block in the Vega for match racing around 1974 but I doubt it. The Monza in its wider configuration probably had one for match racing.

Beautiful. I've cut up several of those grills....now I know what they came from. I've never been a fan of the big Caddies but yours could make me one.

The pictures do look interesting.

It now appears I might be in Myrtle Beach the first week of June. Last time i asked for shops was for a marvelous exploration of Pennsylvania. Any suggestions for shops two hours or so away from the Beach? My quickie hunt found what looks like RC shops. THANKS!

Where did you get a toothed blade for a Dremel. I haven't seen one of those for years.

I do this printing stuff for a living. The USA decals ARE NOT out of register. If they were, they would show slight errors in several places, not the large error of the arrow. Wat they are, is poorly designed. Maybe the slam locks are correct for some liveries. Or maybe this was a way to justify to American modelers to buy the RoG kit.

The OGM Willys has a distributor at a right angle from the crank. It sits in pretty much the "normal" position.

Where'd you get the o-rings?

What are YOUR favorite old kits ?
iBorg replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a sucker for the Tony Nancy double kits. There's so many possibilities and Revell did such a good job in scale fidelity its hard to think of a better dragster. -
What were Slixx's suggestions?
-
Thanks for the words of wisdom. I've done a couple of dragsters, an altered and a Piranha. This is a different design than I'm used to. I really am concerned with the glue selection. I'll get some more Plasti Weld.

Model Builders' Warehouse 3D Printed Parts
iBorg replied to Randy D's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The level of detail of the 3D printed stuff keeps getting better. -
I'm getting ready to do a tube chassis using Evergreen plastic. In the past I've used Ambroid glue but that's no longer available. I'm debating between Plastistruct Plastic Weld, CA and Tamiya Thin. Any recommendations? I'm looking for quick dry time and strength. Of course, I could also solder it. Also at one point there was a pretty good pdf on how to construct a pro mod or pro stock chassis. I thought I saved it but it seems to have disappeared. If you've got that, could you send it to me? Thanks, Mike

Reissues of the same kit

There were many descriptions for Barris. Many of praise and several less so. See: https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/11/custom-car-legend-george-barris-dead-89/ https://www.gbfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3196 https://www.motor1.com/news/77089/george-barris-iconic-tv-carbuilders-career-not-without-blemishes/ But he died famous.
