I'd love to find the decals for either the Gary Burgin or the Bilby, Densham, Plueger cars.

Modified IMC Cougar II or Mustang? Either way, nice.

I've got one of these kits that I've never opened knowing how other bodiesin the series are so badly undersized. This could get me to bust open the plastic on it. Mike

Anyone have photos of Jim Bucher's Chevy AA/FD?
iBorg replied to Dan Helferich's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I keep hoping that Revell or Round 2 would release one of the better rear engined dragsters so we would have more decals available. I'd love to build three cars, the Jim Bucher (world's fastest Chevy) Clayton Harris' New Dimension fueler (one of the few cars to be able to compete with Garlits the first year of the rear engined dragsters) and the Kentucky Moonshiner of Frakes and Funk. -
This is one I want to watch.....

I should have remembered the Roy Hill car. The Butch Leal car is new to me. Wayne is right. The Landy decals shouldn't be that hard.
-
A few of these were raced in Pro Stock. The list includes Sox and Martin (Slixx decals), Dick Landy, and Bob Lambeck. I don't know where you'd decals for the last two. I also have one that I keep looking at thinking I should pull it out and build it.

That is great looking! Amazing how good the Revell bodies look with a little nip and tuck.

You need to do research on the front ends. Some used stock front end. Some removed the K members (less common) while some used straight axles (from the Dodge A100 like the Little Red Wagon) with the stock K members.

Funny car or street version? First there were several makers on Monza funny car bodies. Some were absolute blobs while others resembled the Monza. Funny Car-Revell. AMT's is a blob (such as Jungle Jim's). Revell's more closely resembles a Monza. The Prudhomme body is replicated well by the Revell body. You need to see the car you're wanting to replicate. As for a street version....I'll ask others to get involved. I know I have a started Grumpy's Monza. I choose the AMT version. Finally if you're doing an IMSA Monza. Consider the Revell Monza although all three main line manufacturers offered one. The AMT is nice for a 70's kit but requires significant body work to mold in the fenders. Here's a couple of pictures of both Jungle's and Snake's funny cars.

That sounds better......I've seen too many kits ruined by the tires damaging the windshield. Mike

The windshield is WITH the tires? Unprotected? You've got to be kidding me.

I agree with Jim. The Mustang body really deserves to be done nicely. The only Mustang that has been done well in plastic is the non ram air body by Jo-Han. The MPC body looks undersized but has decent details. The Revell body is so off it is hard to list the problems with it. Both the MPC and Revell bodies are ram air bodies. The Jo-han is a flat hood. I can make the Jo-Han body into a ram air although it is a challenge. The MPC will never be the correct size (it seems to be 1:28 scale) and the Revell body is useless. If they corrected the slicks, I really need a BUNCH of these.

Let's back up for a moment. If that's a Lancer body, its a clear slot car body. If that's the case..... THAT"S A VERY Good build. Great job!

SAE helped with the recognition of model cars as an ADULT hobby. If not for that, Plastic Fanatic would never had been launched. After Plastic Fanatic had some success publishing in the off months of SAE, Car Modeler was started to allow SAE's publishing house to have a new magazine every month at the hobby shops. Plastic Fanatic was bought by Greg and it morphed into the Model Cars we have all learned to love. Gary sold SAE to Kambalch. I'm not sure if Greg bought PF before or after SAE was sold. I frankly think a lot of what made SAE special ended when Gary Schmidt sold out. Eventually SAE lost the E (for Enthusiast) and Car Modeler folded. In all of this, I can only say I'm glad Model Cars is still around. While I buy both SA and Model Cars, I read SA in less than an hour. Model Cars often is spread over several nights of off and on reading to maximize the enjoyment. Mike

Slixx sells quarter panel sheets. Many of these can be combined to create cars for which licensing may not be available or they may not deem them to be big enough potential sellers. Here's a few combos I've found. Please add to the list: From Sheet A: Aussie Raider Super Shops (for SR 30?) From Sheet C: Blaine Johnson Dragster Richard Petty Outlawed (partial) From Sheet E: Extra Gold for Coors sponsored fueler Gap and Roush Taxi (for the Maverick) From Sheet F: Gary Gabeich Kamikaze Monza Funny Car Coors (hidden as Cooks Black Snake lettering (Partial Ronald for Ronald Lyles Pro Stock From Sheet G: Lyles for Ronald Lyles Pro Stock From Sheet H: Golden Commandos From Sheet I: Cartoon figure for Bog John Austin nose Ron Brizo Willys Pick up From Sheet J: Bad Habit Fuel Altered From Sheet K: Heildeberg Speed Shop Comp Rail From Sheet L: Roy Hill (not sure what car) Nationwise (not sure what car) I'm not sure what were on sheets B or D.

I'm laughing. What a great touch of whimsy.

NHRA had a standard that bodies couldn't be narrower than a standard width. I think it was 65 inches. Mike

Chuck.....inspiring. I've got a couple of bodies I feel the same way about. Where did the rear wheel wells come from? Revell Vega or well shaped plastic? Thanks, Mike

Questions about a kit I picked up at a tag sale this summer

I'm in agreement of the brake fluid destroying kits. If left in too long (which is?) the body turns to mush. I have used Easy Off but it really causes me breathing difficulties. -

I find Purple Power (i.e. Purple Pond) doesn't do a lot with blacks. Almost any other color or metal flake, it is my first choice. Mike -

Of all the colors to remove, black is the hardest. The options you might try (not knowing if its enamel, acrylic or lacqueur) poses a problem. You might try any of the following: 98 proof alcohol ( a personal favorite). Not rubbing alcohol but almost pure. Better drug stores will have it. Purple pond Oven Cleaner- least favorite-take precautions for the fumes Polly S Easy Lift Off or ELO- hard to find but VERY good Brake Fluid- CAUTION will eat your hands as well as the model. Let me know if any of this works for you. I've got an original AMT Nova that has black on it which seems to be untouchable. Mike
