Posting Your Build on the Other Guy’s Thread
Dave Van replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If the post is of a completed build....and I have something to ADD by posting a build I will. If my build is somehow complementary or demonstrates a different option.....something helpful ....no issue. You post as 'mine is better' it's just passive aggressive. Boils down to intent.....sharing or gloating..... -
When my son and I did a ground up restore on my 66 2+2 we almost did the Shelby window in place of the louvers.....but as we wanted to be different we left them in.....and they do work so the added air is a plus!!!

Thanks.......I have the kit parts ready.......GT350R for the front roll pan, GT350H for stock body and glass and Pace car for flat hood!!! Resin wheels from aftermarket.

For some reason the photo of my real Mustang project keeps being deleted from my post.......not sure why??? But this is my favorite Mustang project and I supervised it much like a model project.....so here she is.....

From RC Toy to Lowboy Load
Dave Van replied to redneckrigger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great work on the conversion. I bought a few of those NB toys that looked close to 1/25 scale. I have only done anything to one of them.....the Cat dump truck.......I went more Tom Daniels on mine!!! Some die cast take offs wheels and tires.....parts box stuff and a new cab and details. These toys are good start points!!!! -
Cool!! we need details!!!! what and how.....

Green or yellow plastic makes no difference to me.....a single coat of Tamiya silver leaf spray and it's the same as white plastic.....the reason is newbies and grandma......

Future floor wax question
Dave Van replied to DrKerry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep......as I said just above your post........lots of variables!!!! I'm just happy I do not have issues with my methods. FYI I apply the Future with a dedicated sable brush only..... -

True.....I'd not say 'never' or 'always' about others methods.......too many variables....... Just sighting my own experiences with said product. -
Future floor wax question
Dave Van replied to DrKerry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The cracking has two causes I have found after 30+ years of use. 1. Every time I used it over Tamiya or other water based paint the Future had cracking issues. Per people that know more than I do.....it's a combo of slow dry time for the paint abd chemical reaction. I stopped using water base after that. 2. Solvent based paint 'gassing out' will cause Future cracking. Easy fix......use dehydrator to cure paint or allow paint to FULLY cure.....like a month or two. Following these rules I have not had the issue since 1981........thx -

I bought my first bottle around 1981.....took me about 12 years to use it up.......worked fine to the end....only on 3rd bottle now. -

I have two sets I bought in the last few years......both have the brittle parts issue....so no building....just looking.....but I didn't pay over $10 for otherwise mint sets....so still fun to look over and remember. -

One thing I have yet to find, something I spent LOTS of time playing with was MARX play sets, The two we had were the Civil War and the Flintstone set. Both original and repro sets are out there. We really liked the Civil War set. Anyone here collect these?? -
Very cool build!!!! Can't wait for the stock body kit. I can build my 1/1 46 with it.
-
Buy this one so John can show the others need to be reissued....... Slow sales will kill the other reissues for sure..... I'm gonna make my own version of Lug.....
