Builds for 2020 Stats (Unscientific)
alan barton replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in Model Cars
Thanks for doing that Jay! as I read a lot of them over the last week I was thinking, boy, wouldn't it be cool to tally all these up! And what the numbers don't show is the incredible quality. 2020 had some good aspects to it after all! Cheers Alan -
Beautiful detail work, especially on the roll cage and engine bay! But yeah.it really needs to come down a bit in the front. I too have used the raised spindle idea - not 100% prototypical but most will never know and it will make the whole project killer! Cheers Alan

Niiiice! The guitar is beautiful, a credit to you. I would be perfectly happy to caretake the Hemi Under Glass and the Orange Crate! Cheers Alan

Showcasing my spectacular modeling achievements of 2020...
alan barton replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Model Cars
For some it is the destination, for others it is the journey. I'm good with that, I like that you take us along on the journey. If I see a new post with Ace at the front of it, I know it is going to be interesting. And this one was no exception! Cheers Alan -
Boy, that is really something! Hard to pick a favourite - here's me, a hot rodder, getting all sweaty over Duesenbergs and Mercedes race cars! An awesome year for sure. Great to see someone has hot rodded a Toyoda Airflow!!!! I mean, someone had to do it! Good luck for an equally productive New Year. Cheers Alan

After hot rods, my next automotive love is speedway ( you guys call them dirt tracks - same thing). 1938 Ford hardtop racer 1934 resin Chevy coupe jalopy racer FRW resin supermod Jaymar fibreglass S series Valiant stock car Monogram Offy Midget There are two more models that I will photograph tomorrow but it just passed midnight here in Perth so i will wish you all a happy new year ! Hi guys, this ahs easily been my busiest year ever. I have a target of 12 completed models a year so to complete 20 plastic kits ( and one diecast) makes me happy. Some were old or older builds but most were relatively new. Not travelling for work so much because of COVID restrictions definitely gave me more bench time than usual. First up are the hot rods. Some of these haven't been see here yet because they haven't been featured in my monthly magazine column for Australian Street Rodding yet so think of these as a sneak preview for later. I didn't set out to build heaps of Model Ts but turns out that's what happened! The builds are as follows AMT 1923 ford t roadster Pyro 1/16 scale Tee N T AMT 25 T bucket AMT 25 T rolling chassis MPC Vending machine show rod AMT 27 T Touring Revell 1930 A coupe AMT 1932 Custom Tudor AMT 1934 Ford Towtruck Monogram 1/24th 32 Full fendered Roadster Monogram 1/20th 32 Sports Coupe Matchbox 33 Plymouth Sedan diecast 1/64th scale converted to 5 window coupe Monogram 1/24th scale 32 hiboy Thanks to all the great hot rod modellers out there who have made this year a great one for the hobby. Cheers Alan

'55 Chevy Two Lane Blacktop replica(ish)
alan barton replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It's looking good Nigel. Most people at first glance will see the Two Lane Blacktop car, the dissection might occur on the second glance! .I can truly relate to this one because, maybe nearly forty years ago, I wanted to build the American Graffiti 55, which as we all know started life as the Two Lane Blacktop car and so what did I use???? The same kit you have up top. I also lost the plot a little and added a squared off pro stock scoop so I guess we both now belong to the "neither fish nor fowl" movie car club! As my model club is doing the American Graffiti diorama this year, I am also going to build the rollover car from a very tatty Revell 56 Post and an AMT 55 Post that has lost it's post. For what it is going to become, the very rough 56 is going to work fine. That might make 3 for the afore-mentioned club. While I think Snake is right, sometimes ya just gotta soldier on! Just going off on a tangent for a moment (sorry!) but when you study the rollover scene, there are three different cars in use! Happy New Year, Spotted Laurel, hope you get it done! Cheers Alan -
7 ....errr...oops...actually 8 completions during 2020...(Update)
alan barton replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Wow, I like 'em all but that little blue tub just made me smile. It strikes me as a re-imagined version of the show rod in the XR-6 kit, somewhat more believable with the wide whites on black steels, the Model A banger ( did ANYONE ever run a Model T engine in a show car?) and the radius rods filling the void under the frame. I will be posting my yellow one in a week or so - with your permission I would like to combine both of yours, Jim's and mine so that members here can see four very different interpretations of the same theme. Happy New Year! Alan -
What a knockout! What blows me away even more, adding to all the compliments above, is how cohesive the entire design statement is. You said you were going to build an Elky in the style of Devilfish. That is exactly what you have produced. There is about 1 square inch of Elky left and yet it is instantly recognizable as being an Elky. You have captured every possible high point of radical show car design and even though it is full of race car parts and concepts, it doesn't look like a racecar. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that even though the engineering, construction and finish is world class, the execution of your original design statement is even more impressive. Thank you for sharing this with us all, I am going to be thinking about and checking back on this model for quite a while! Cheers Alan

I love seeing dedicated collections built by someone passionate about their chosen field of interest. These are amazing. I don't have a single Cadillac in my collection but I could look at these all day long. Cheers Alan
-
Earlier this year I said that 2020 had been the best year ever for hot rod models on this forum. This magnificent collection confirms that in spades. And as much as I wouldn't change a thing on your The F100 panel is probably the best I have ever seen and the Thunderbolt is gobsmackingly beautiful. Thank you for sharing theses with us. Cheers Alan
-
Such a razor crisp style, Dave, I wouldn't worry about pumping out more when taking your time gives you results like this. I thrive on building multiples, you prefer one at a time, it's a case of whatever works best for you! Cheers Alan
-
Wow - the Alumasalt rings all my bells. Would love to see the tank on a single axle trailer behind the 34 pickup That's a great set for the year! Cheers Alan
-
Not my speed but the VW with the trailer is very cool and very accurate! For my tastes, the 32 wins hands down! Cheers Alan
-
What q good year! The pickup does it for me - that is sooooo right! Cheers Alan

1937 Ford Sedan Retro Hot Rod - Last Call For 2020!
alan barton replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in Model Cars
This was a great build to follow in the WIP section and I am really enjoying the finished product. It is neat to see that "traditional" does not have to mean black with flames, red steels and wide whites! Your original and creative approaches are very refreshing and your metallic finishes are pushing me to greater heights! I have all three of those cans outside in my stash and will be stripping a set of wheels shortly to give it a go. Thanks for your kind words regarding my own rods and I look forward to your work in the new year. Cheers Alan -
Steve, as usual your models are the ultimate eye candy for a car modeller. My eye sweeps backwards and forwards and absolutely nothing interrupts the flow. I rarely build anything approaching showroom stock but every time I open the forum and see a post from you I go straight to it to see what you have achieved since last time. Your work is so educational to the rest of us. I am working on a 61 Galaxie police car and cut the door panels off the tub, purely because you have shown us that is the best way to achieve accuracy ( plus I am changing a 62 two door convertible interior to a 61 four door sedan!) Maybe this year I am going to tackle my unmolested 64 Chevelle wagon. It will be either showroom stock or possibly Day 2 with a set of Cragars and thin whitewalls or Americans and thin redwalls. When I take that step I hope to be able to call on you for advice as this is the most expensive 1/25th scale kit I have ever purchased and I want to do it justice. Again, from your influence I have picked up a Revell 65 Chevelle kit to provide an upgraded undercarriage. Thank you for so willingly sharing your talent with us! Cheers Alan
-
Such class! I like them all but I love the Chrysler and also really appreciate a different take on the 29 pickup. Cheers Alan
-
A truly magnificent collection! The Nova wagon is a knockout but the one that stopped me dead as I was scrolling down was the Cuda short tracker. I need to build one of those! Cheers Alan
-
Thanks everyone. In case you are interested, I will include this shot of a mockup I tried with a full hood. It looked cool enough but a) the headers and aircleaners wouldn't fit and b) it is an indictable offence to hide an Offenhauser from public view! Thanks for the kind words Tim- I too have a few more Model T's up my sleeve with the next one being a full-fendered 25roadster pickup with a flattie. So many models, so little time! Cheers Alan

Belly Tank - MADE IN BRAZIL
alan barton replied to uelder valongo's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Absolutely beautiful! And I am sure I have towed that trailer here in Australia, right down to the torn fender. Congratulations on a beautiful job. Cheers Alan -
I'll give them five out of five! But the 5 window coupe gets a gold star and an elephant stamp from me! Cheers Alan
