  1. Great job (again) Ron, never thought about using solder as a (re useable at that) template for the cage, brilliant idea. I (should have) one of these ( falcons) I built a few years back on here if you want to have a look at it.
  2. curtain cord like whats used on venetian blinds and wrap most of it in a thin strip of BMF wound around it. The build looks fantastic mate !! freaking awesome , are you adding a spoiler or wing?
  3. thanks guys. Had a bit of a break from the bench for a few days, hope to get back into it over the weekend. Stan, you gotta come to a mph meeting, pm me for details if you'd like to come.
  4. very nice Billy, love that color scheme !
  5. Cheers guys. Mitch , metallisers are a part of the model masters paint range that as the name implies have realistic metal looking finishes. I can only get a few different colors here so I mixed some together to lighten/darken to get the shades I want. They are primarily airbrush paints, ultra thin and cover great. I do have some Tamiya (brush) paints that I use to the same effect if I'm only doing one or two small pieces. As for the kit, its all plastic aside from all the rubber hosing and tires and sparkplug leads, so the injector lines are painted plastic. If I get the time, I may replace some of the grey rubber lines with more realistic looking hoses but this was before braided lines took over (afaik).
  6. I'm pretty sure I said to you on one of your earliest builds on this forum, that with your desire to improve and the talent you were already showing that one day you would be a force to reckon with on the contest tables. Now this may not be that build, but I for one would not want to compete against it. You have come so far in a few short years and always take the time to admire, congratulate and thank others on their builds, and that young man is truly what its all about. You're a great ambassador and a very very good builder, its been a pleasure to watch you grow. Cant wait to see the next one .
  7. Alan heres one that I laid it out for everyone wanting to try these frames, brass is the same its just a different medium http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=74760&hl=freakshow
  8. Thanks again guys, got the decals on and some pinstriping tape (for fingernails apparently), a little wider than I'd prefer but close enough.Hope to get it cleared in the next couple of days and then I'll sort the grille and rear window out.. Dave no I hadn't really thought about lowering it,, to scared to now as the engine will foul on the hood but it doesnt look too bad on its wheels. Still have to clean up the rest of it a bit, not going overboard though, it will only be displayed with the body down. bit blurry sorry
  9. Very cool T, love the clear scoop, different and cool !! Love the color too.
  10. Building the Revell/ Mc Culloch Revelloution Demon if it all goes as planned. The big 16th scale one, building it for one of our clubs two monthly theme nights (6 theme nights a year, April was car from a movie night, June is build a different scale night). Anyways, detail on these is pretty good box stock so apart from a little lowering thats all I'm going to do. Had to get the engine done so I can alter the tin a bit. The breathers had really bad seam lines all over them so I sanded them back and bare metal foiled them (as in pics) but I'm going to remove them and alclad them.finding pics without the body are a little difficult to come by so going off the best one I've got, it has a black frame, blue tin sides and fuel tank. Have used metallisers for most of the engine work so far. Dont expect any Sobak type building here, I havent the time nor talent to attempt that level yet
  11. well that came out about twice as cool as what I imagined it would, Stellar job Ron, absolutely beautiful !!
  12. I'm honored that you count me among that lineup Mitch, means a lot actually . You may want to add a bit more blue to the headers but I really like the various metal shades you've used. I dont use acrylics for painting so cant advise you on how to do a wash to add shadows etc in case it makes your other paint run. The only other advice I'd give you with the funny car engine is, the plug wires going to the drivers side( well the left hand side I should say ) go under the top pulley. Makes it a little tight when the belt goes on but will look more realistic (also then they wont interfere with any injector plumbing). You are improving in leaps and bounds my friend, keep up the great work !
  13. very cool and the wedding dress is a great touch, well done !!
  14. looking really good Ron, cant wait to see more
  15. absolutely stunning, your builds never fail to impress but this one............................................... great job !!
  16. thanks guys, finally got back to the bench to do some more, Re masked it off and reshot pearl red over all the red lines, subtle but much better in person, will decal and start on chassis next
  17. what was once going to be my summit pro stocker is now just a fantasy car due to 3 bad sets of decals. I did scan and print and still have the old body ready to go when that issue is sorted ( going to paint all the white (purples done) and get aftermarket ones). anyhow wanted to get a quick build done and play with a couple paint ideas and here's the fruit of my labour the paint (auto lacquer) is a gold basecoat which I masked out the letters with some scrapbooking letters, for the checks at the back I'd masked off the back, cut out the pattern, removed the corresponding squares and sprayed silver over the top fading it in places the covered it all in about 3 coats of candy red. So depending on the light and angles you look at it the checks have a bitchen ghost effect. Skulls are temporary tattoos. Still have to do the chutes and mounts and a few decals but pretty happy with it so far
  18. Thanks guys,I've been bouncing between builds like a squirrel on speed, hope to have updates on this one soon
