My New Years Modeling Resolution
Sport Suburban replied to Renegade's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stick with it as it is possible. I told myself this same thing a few years ago. Been pretty good about it also. So far this year I have finished 10 builds and have 3 more almost done. I still have many started builds. I did start 2 new builds this year and one was finished. They were both resin conversion and I tend to get really excited with them. -
New From Model Car Garage
Sport Suburban replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I would love to get a set for the 70 Charger. I'm still waiting for the 67 Shelby set he announced almost 2 years ago but still not out. -
1984 Hurst Cutlass decals
Sport Suburban replied to gasman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Very cool. I'll be getting a set. -
I didn't realize that they are asking that much for them now. I have the tin kit and the reason I went for that one was the decals. The Dukes issue has the decals in three colors but no roadrunners on them. The Tin issue has the correct decals plus the correct dash and chassis even thought I still plan to kit bash it with a 71 Charger like I did with my last one. I went for the tin as it was not much more than the other issue. But if I wanted better decals Keith Marks decals were an extra $15.

'68 Super Bee/Coronet R/T
Sport Suburban replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not too difficult I thought. Here is mine. It is all Modelhaus and I used 2 grills, cut them both in half and used the right halfs to remove the R/T emblem. Sanded off the other R/T trim from the sides and rear panel. Dodge letters are photo etch meant foe a challenger hood. Strip is from Fred Cady. -
Very nice! I have restored a number of these and its nice to see another one done!
-
Here is a pic of the conversion kit. I still have this but lost the rear spoiler. Note the hood is two piece vacuum formed.
-
Thanks, It is funny now because I bought a few of the kits and also did a few 70 Hemi Cudas too. For what was available back then they were great. The new 70 Cuda is awesome but I have not built it yet. I also have the MPC version as well. I also have the 95 version AAR and that one didn't bother me and I built that one too.
-
I really like the AAR Cuda and built this one back in 1990. This was built with a trans kit from MPB Detail and used the 71 Hemi Cuda and 70 Challenger TA.

1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18
Sport Suburban replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
They look awesome and I went to the sight to get them. That cost me a lot now. I started looking around and had to get the 2013 Shelby GT500 trans kit, and the 2014 Camaro Z28! I just realized I only got one set of the 67 wheels. They are for my 67 GT500 Super Snake project but I also have the HRM 68 convertible and a few others. Now if Model Car Garage would finally get the photo etch sets for these out I will be set. They announced them just over two years ago! -
t.m.resin's '66 Impala wagon.
Sport Suburban replied to ranma's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Also, that Resin kit predates the Revell kit. That Resin kit is based off the old AMT 66 Impala kit. -
Do You Recycle Your Old Builds?
Sport Suburban replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have rebuilt many of my old builds but not all of them. Some I keep because they were some of my best at the time and I was proud of them. Others that were redone were ones I finished but new I could have done better. Some I just got a fresh kit and built it again and now have two done almost the same way but show my skill advancement. I do buy vintage built up kits to restore and have redone many of them. It is a little bit more work but I really enjoy the final results. One that I am currently redoing is a 68 Shelby GT500KR convertible that I built with a Mini Exotics Resin kit about 15 years ago. The paint was blotchy, I used silver paint instead of BMF, and the decals were Fred Cady. Stripping paint off Resin is a gamble and if I destroyed it I could not get another one. That changed when HRM released his Resin kit. I tore it apart and the paint came off with no issues. I ordered Keith Marks decals and now everything is well on its way. It is harder to redo one of my own old builds but much easier to redo someone else's. I'm currently redoing a 67 Thunderbird AMT annual and a Johan 70 Roadrunner. -
What a beautiful build! I have one started and all roughed in and ready for primer. I have the Revell chassis and engine comp all kit bashed in and Missing links dash, front spoiler and a few other parts I needed. I just can't decide on the color combo!

Sport Suburban replied to unclescott58's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Cool my order is only 531 away! Now serving?? -
Currently on my workbench at this very moment is: 70 AMX Resin Missing Link kit in Big Bad Blue with shadow mask paint. It is almost finished. 70 Roadrunner Johan in Moulan Rouge paint, it is painted and needs to have decals installed and clear coated. 67 Thunderbird AMT restoration in Midnight Blue and is ready for clear coat. 67 Mercury GT40 Daytona car in red. Bodywork mostly done and in first primer. 69 GTX Johan kit in final primer. Time to pick a color for it. 68 Cougar GT AMT kit in final primer. Also deciding on a color for it. 69 Charger 500 Revell kit in B5 blue. Body is done and cleared. Hood and plain steel wheels are getting repainted now. I have many more started and just off to the side of my work bench. almost done are: 60 Impala in black, 69 Camaro Pace Car conv, 68 Shelby GT500KR convert (old Mini Exotics kit that I built once before and repainted it), 69 Roadrunner Johan, 69 Grand Prix and many more.

67 Eleanor transkit available?
Sport Suburban replied to Devilsnake98's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I really liked the newer movie and I love 67 Shelbys so it was just a natural for me. The car was treated like a character in the film. It was his nemesis. The wild stallion that could not be tamed so to speak. The main character always wanted his own but seem to always get busted steeling one. He finally got his in the end. As for the fact that so many movie clones were made and the demand was so high for them blows my mind. Plus watching some of the clones sell for more money that the real Shelbys is crazy. -
67 Eleanor transkit available?
Sport Suburban replied to Devilsnake98's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Just wanted to point out that the donor kit AMT 67 Shelby GT-350 was rereleased recently (amt800/12) and is much easier to find! -
Pontiac TransAm fans unite
Sport Suburban replied to djflyer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually GM never owned the name. SCCA did or does and GM paid them for fee for every Trans Am they made. -
I built one long ago and the resin parts I used are no longer available. Currently Harts parts lists a 69 Roadrunner grill for the AMT 69 GTX. As mentioned sand off the GTX trim and don't use the chrome piece for the trunk. The only exterior issue is the taillights. The GTX has tunneled taillights and the Roadrunner are more flush. Keith Marks offered some excellent decals for this also! Harts also offers better seats in resin for a Roadrunner if you don't want to use the GTX bucket seats.
-
You have a few options. First are you ok with resin? AMT did a 69 GTX and a few people offered Resin conversion parts to turn one into a Roadrunner. A 70 Roadrunner is also available in resin but is only the body parts. It is a direct copy of the Johan kit but donor parts may be an issue. In plastic Johan did both the 69 and 70 models in 1/25 plastic. They also did the GTXs. The most common is the 69 Roadrunner. They are all over eBay and get about 50-75 on average. The 69 GTX is rarer and gets a lot more. For the 70 kits the 70 GTX is more common than the 70 Roadrunner. I just watched a 70 Roadrunner that was busted up some sell for $130 but another nice one that is built up is offered at $200 but no buyers. 70 Superbirds from Johan are way more common and share many parts. Anything Johan is going to be more money if you are not familiar with them.
