How do I budget my building time? Not very well as I could easilly afford two to four hours a day every day to modeling, but NO I'm on this keyboard, doing things around the house, doing a LOT of nothing, etc.. I call it POOR time-management. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to make a few adjustments and spend MORE needed time on the bench.

I owe an apology

Dave, you're a BIG man for admitting your wrongdoing and I take my hat off to you for that. -
Nice job on that "Square-Bird."

Seeing as I have PLENTY to build already, I really don't carw when the new releases and re-issues hit the shelves. They're just more kits for the "pile."

ONLY one more week until this show and I'm looking forward to it. Of course I'll be buying things I don't need but it is fun!
-
I would start with another kit.

While I'm a fan of "gassers" you have done that custom '55 Chevy proud. It is a sweet lookin' ride!

Chunky Diamond Dust?

I've used a lot of Testors lacquers and never had a problem with them at all. -
model master custom lacquer questino
High octane replied to Bruce Poage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
3 mist coats and 3 finish coats is a LOT of paint, and then you're gonna ad a second color and then clear coats too? All this over primer? I would use 2 mist coats and 1 wet coat before masking and spraying the second color, and that 1 mist coat and 1 wet coat before applying the clear coats. I myself wet sand or polish the clear coats only and that's after a couple weeks of "gassing out." I don't own or use a dehydrator so I can't help you out there. -
Opinions on repairing paint bleed
High octane replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ben as light sanding like you had in mind might work. Next time to AVOID bleed through, spray some clear along the tape edge and then after 20 minutes spray your second color. If there's any bleed through, it will be? CLEAR! -

Great score! -
I got fed up with cars at one time, all cars, car shows, drag races, model cars, etc. I sold all my kits, most all my built ups, my tools, and parts. I followed drag boat racing and unlimited hydroplane racing for awhile and even got into R/C boating also. Well after 7 or 8 years it was back to cars and now that's for LIFE. So if you can pack up your stuff for awhile and put it aside, do it and you'll be happy you did. I wish I would have.

Your Imperial build looks awesome so far and I like what you're doing to the interior as well as the body mods.

High octane replied to Phildaupho's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice work on that Ranchero conveersion Phil and while I'm pretty sure that Revell will be doing a Ranchero in the future, it is hard to say when. -

You can also find those engines in AMT's '33 Willys kits and their sedan delivery too. -
Screwed up paint job/ orange peel?
High octane replied to SFC_Allen's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Earle, I usually paint with Testors lacquers and when I wet sand the clear coat it will look a bit dull with using the 4,000, 6,000, and 8,000 grits and after I use the 12,000 grit I can just rub the body with a flannel or cotton cloth and it will be shiny without using any compounds, polishes, or waxes. It looks like you have way to much orange peel on that Monaco and it will still show through a few clearcoats. You could try and polish out (wet sand) the body before adding the clear coat or you may just have to strip the paint entirely and start over. I'm told that orange peel occurs when one is spraying to far away from the body. -
Screwed up paint job/ orange peel?
High octane replied to SFC_Allen's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Earle, after primer I usually let it "gas out" a day or so and wet sand the primer coat lightly w/ 1000 grit. Then I "tack" the body and spray a light coat or color, another light coat of color twenty minutes later, and then a wet coat twenty minutes after that. I then let it "gas out" for a day or so and then shoot clear starting w/ two mist coats twenty minutes apart and then a wet coat after another twenty minutes. I'll then let the clear "gas out" for a couple of weeks before polishing out the clear coat w/ 4,000 to 12,000 grits. After that you can put anything you want on top of that or nothing at all. Sounds like you didn't wait long enough before polishing and then you used a compound and then sprayed over that which is a no-no as you can't spray over compounds, polishes, or waxes. I hope this helps. -

You gotta take it easy with anything over 300 hp or you might not get a second chance. You're a lucky fellow!
