  1. Needed another build to get some more practice using the SMS paints. So got this kit out. Opened up the wheel arch's in preparation for the flares/over fenders. Only using these wheels for mock up purposes. Applied a very light check coat of 1500 surfacer black. Also lowered it a bit more. Re scribed door lines and pre scribe around the trim. Next up will remove the mold lines and block wet sand entire body with 1000-1500 grit. Then wet sand again with 2000-12000.
  2. Ended up having to colour wet sand the 57. Pebbling was bad in a couple spots So used Donn Yost method of sanding metallics, but I used GodHand 4000, 6000, 8000, 10000 sanding sponges. Very surprised how well the SMS pearl wet sanded, Almost could have left it as is and cleared. But had to re coat as there was some thin spots, no burn thru at all. And here it is after the re coat. Doesnt look any different than before. But it is as it has no pebbling LOL!
  3. Looks like you are starting to master the art of using the machine.
  4. Rammstein at Big Day Out Adelaide 2001.
  5. Nice work on the interior Joe, just needs a doof doof system in the back, couple subs and amps. Maybe even a tv as a partition wall from the driver. Aykroyd version looks gangsta with the black and purple, makes me think Nissan midnight purple for some reason. Keep at it.
  6. Very impressive mate, you done an excellent job painting them. Some interesting techniques used to achieve the varying effects. They turned out awesome, well done.
  7. From my viewing perspective, there is a difference. Both have the same mirror reflective finish, but polished aluminum is a bluish sliver, where as the chrome is a blackish silver. Does that even make any sense LOL! Alclad paints are the same as what I just mentioned. Dont know much about big rigs, but I assume most is polished aluminum due to it weighing less than chrome plated steel.
  8. Nice work on the tubs, wheels suit the style of build.
  9. Progressing well on the interior, starting to take shape. Keep at it.
  10. Cant say ive seen many of these built, good to see something different.
  11. I really dont like painting metallics and pearls, as I am not very good applying them especially with an airbrush. Thats why I like to paint everything black, but that gets boring and there are some very nice colours out there. Thats what the 57 is all about, experimenting, learning and doing something other than black. Got it painted, I was worried about the texture on the trim from the pearl, so masked it before applying the paint. Got a bit of pebbling on the trunk near lower window trim, and few here and there. Oh well, live and learn. Will wipe some of when fully dry and hope to bury the rest in the clear. Cant wait to see this cleared and in the sunlight.
  12. Thanks Steve, plan to try different things out on each of the 57 snaptite kits I have. And also using them for airbrush paint practice.
  13. Applied the TS-24 today, got some issues with the roof, hood and bed. So going to colour sand and apply another coat.
  14. Tires look really good, wheel chocks are a great idea. That you are. Generally if you can learn one trade, it's not that difficult to learn another.
  15. It goes to show the products, tools and skills you use and have developed building Gunpla easily transfer over to the Auto's. Nice job detailing the brakes. Keep at it, look forward to the next update.
  16. A well planned a executed build Steve, impressive effort to capture many of the elements of 1:1 inspiration. Bravo! Look forward to seeing the glamour pics.
  17. Not really into muscle cars and I find factory stock dead set boring. But I can certainly appreciate the time and skill involved to produce such a thoroughly detailed model car. Well done and congratulations Steve. You da man
  18. Yep, world has too many pretenders.
  19. Not much of an update, applied white base coat. Used Gaianotes paint which is excellent. High gloss, fast drying, very durable. Thinned 1:1.5 and used the Vision with .38 @ 25psi.
  20. Thanks David, removed them for something different. And thanks for sharing that info of how they did it on the 1:1's back in the day.
  21. Lots of variables to cause the pebbling. Probably not thinned enough, shot to far away from the surface. Psi bit low around 20 be a good place to start. 1:1 is the go with lacquer paints, primers and surfacers 1:1.5 Airbrush and needle size would be good to know as well.
  22. Surprising how good it looks with those 350Z wheels, good idea using them.
  23. Looks decent for 48 hr build, dont think I could build one that quick. Well done.
  24. Done well, quick simple builds are good to help keep the hobby fun. What is the colour ??
