I've always insisted that they use a torque wrench for the final torqueing . But, then again, I avoid chain ( Firestone, et al. ) tyre stores like the plague. One of the most common items I've seen 'abused' is the torque-to-yield drum and rotor retainer nut(s). The warning is even cast-into the retainer ! In bold letters : DO NOT REUSE ! SINGLE USE ONLY ! Then there are the clowns who reuse TTY head bolts...

MPC-988 1/25 George Barris Granny's Hot Rod $35.99 TBA
1972coronet replied to ss2000's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Probably one of least offensive box art contributions from that Racing Chumps era. Still, that hovering-over-a-red, basketball-texture-background representation is a humdinger ! Whose 10 year old Mario Paint kid put that thing together ??? -
Outstanding ! Perfect colour choice, executed flawlessly. I, too, am awaiting the police version.

This whole undersized-engine-with-an-oxidiser influx reminds me of the first Malaise Era - but worse. That Fœcal Boost setup has been bird cage lining since day one ! Throw a CVT behind it, and prepare yourself for a tiny-engine-in-a-4,000-lbs.-car "performance" . Junk. This is all to quell the outdated C.A.F.E. standards from c.1979. Something which pickup trucks/vans/commercial vehicles should be 100% exempt from. Geo Metro -in all of its iterations- was a fantastic car ! I've operated a number of them throughout the years -- drove the snot out of 'em ! To paraphrase 'Easy Andy' from Taxi Driver and the selling of guns to Travis Bickle : "This gun'll hammer nails on point all day, then come home a slice tomatoes."

Looks like a nice match to KB5 (1973-1974 colour). I, too, have the most recent issue of the old MPC 1974 Road Runner (whose origins date to the 1971 annuals , updated ad seq. ) . It's one of my favourite body styles of the 1971-1974 B-bodies. Last one I built was 20 years ago (the dreadful RC2 era release) ; painted it TB3 Basin Street Blue (colloq., "Petty Blue" - a shade different from the actual blue used by Petty & company), and added a correct 1971-1972 dashboard from my parts box. Yes, the kit needs some massaging, but will present well when completed. Keep up the great work !

hurt my knee...why i dont go to doctors
1972coronet replied to MrMiles's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The knee is the biggest joint in the human (biped) body. It takes a lot of stress and works under incredible demands -- a chain's only as strong as its weakest link. Could be bursæ (the fluid sacs - think : bursitis ; swelling ( "-itis" ) of the bursæ ). Could be tendonitis ( swelling/irritation of the tendons). Could be emanating from the lumbar regions' facet joints. Or it could be muscle(s). As one whom suffers from arthritis, and herniated discs in my cervical and lumbar regions, I (literally) feel your pain. If you have access to a swimming pool (preferably heated/temperature controlled) , you may consider stretching/bending your legs in the water. I know that it's helped me. Best of luck to you. -
Yellow tree from new amt kit

That was my first thought : mould release agent. That stuff takes on a Cosmoline appearance when it sits for a while. -
I've used Dupli-Color engine enamels quite a few times in more than 30 years, most recently was Alpine Green (Detroit Diesel colour) . That one is the only one which gave me "trouble" -- truly, it was de facto 'user error' . Why ? Painted a van body with it (over Tamiya White Fine Line Primer : Aerosol) in high humidity and heat. Paint laid down nicely, but it "blushed" in patches, and took a week to cure. Again, my fault. Conversely ; I've used Pontiac Engine Light Blue Metallic over Tamiya Fine Line Grey : Aerosol on a 1964 Cutlass 442. It was cold (around 30 degrees) and damp (rainfall about n hour before) outside, nighttime. Z-E.R.O issues ! Flashed quickly (inside, after gassing-out) and dried to a satin finish within two days. Like @Ace-Garageguysuggested : light, light "dusting" coats initially, followed by a "heavier" "full" coat for the final. Now, some engine colours/paints are a thin, metallic (Pontiac Light Blue Metallic), whereas others are solid and semi flat (Alpine Green , for an example). The likes of MCW and Scale Finishes have engine paint colours available in their lines. More expensive than a big ol' can of aerosol, but they permit the user to employ hardeners and reducers at their discretion.

Shouldn't it be called Project XVI by now ? -
Gorgeous WM23N1 ! I love how the C5XV seats/interior turned out -- nice touch. Where was your 1:1 'Bee built ?

Questions for anyone familiar with CA smog laws
1972coronet replied to Draggon's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'd be good with an outright ban of leaf blowers in suburban settings. Counterproductive, noisy, top-soil-ruining, plant-scaring piles of [Flash_bam_POW] -- a "tool" which all of these "landscapers" employ (hint: real landscapers do not a leaf blower own). But, yeah... lawnmowers. -

Garage Rock from the sixties is the main influence to what would become known as "Punk", perpetuated by the likes of the Nuggets double-album from 1972
-
Too bad that the original 225/auto and 426 Race Hemi/auto were "lost" prior to the c.1988 reissue. At least the 'Recall' wheels were added, and the chassis received dual exhaust (albeit, moulded-on).

I don't enjoy feeling so "connected" to any vehicle. A stark contrast to feeling connected with a vehicle. To that end: sound systems ! I don't want for nor do I need for Yahoo Serious or 990 (my play on "XM") to tell me what to listen to ! Most of what I listen to wouldn't even be available on any of those "services" (like, yeah, XM et al. isn't going to have the mono edition of A Saucerful of Secrets or whatever other obscure edits that I dig). I'll take C.D.'s and/or cassettes all day long, thank you. Bollocks to touch screens for everything !

1978 Dodge Transmission Color
1972coronet replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
To qualify my answer: the transmission in the 1978 D-100/150 is incorrect anyhow. But for the sake of argument ; all of Chrysler's transmissions were aluminium cast by 1976, whether they were an automatic (904/727 & 998/999 Torqueflite/LoadFlite) or the 4-speed (direct-4th-gear or the 3-speed-with-overdriven-4th). If it's accuracy you seek, grab the 440/Torqueflite from the 1971 Charger R/T. Oil pan's different (truck/van application) as are exhaust manifolds (centre-dump). Or if you're keen on a small block/4-speed, use the 340/4-speed from the 1971 Duster 340. It could easily be "disguised" as a 360. not totally accurate, but definitely leaps & bounds better than the 'generic' Chrysler big block/manual trans in the kit. -

Questions for anyone familiar with CA smog laws
1972coronet replied to Draggon's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The California Air Resources Board (ironic acronym of C.A.R.B.) is full of appointed overlords . Frankly, I'm surprised that this [BiPpiTy-Boop-BoP] state hasn't started testing motorcycles ! I was awestruck when the rolling-exemption deal was passed in 1998. At that time, smog testing was over with for 1973 & earlier vehicles. It was supposed to be a rolling exemption... ...it halted at the 1975 model year. A certain actor-turned-governor "Terminated" the rolling exemption deal, having acquiesced to Mary Nichols et al. at the precious, protected species known as C.A.R.B. All that should matter is tailpipe emissions (and evap emissions -- V.O.C.'s), but good old Cali takes it to the absurd (see my resolution to the invasive testing here, 2nd post). But, yeah, if that bodybuilder wouldn't have caved, 1993 & earlier models would now be exempt.
