Most beautiful planes of all time...
Lunajammer replied to Matt Bacon's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Part of the tragedy is it appears to be pilot error. He was an immensely accomplished pilot and warbird restorer. Rebuilt two of the rarest Super Corsair air racers and had a P-51 wing shop. He and Bob Hoover were close friends and he flew air shows all over the country and annually at Oshkosh. But on this day six years ago, during a practice just a couple towns over, he crashed doing a barrel roll. The NTSB cites insufficient altitude for the maneuver. Many questions remain, because it's so unlikely such an accomplished pilot would make such a fundamental mistake on such a fundamental maneuver. Because of the state of the plane, it's giving up no secrets regarding possible mechanical factors. -

Sadly, these two are the same plane. The pilot/restorer was an acquaintance of mine and was shocking loss to all in our community. Fortunately, I got to climb all over this plane about a month prior to attending his wake. -
Maybe can't see the pearl, but my spidey tingles sense it. As a slot car, does the extended tail make it squirrelly in corners?

That's HOT Gary. I like that interior, seems about right. The little "53" makes a warm fuzzy little nod to racing v-dubs. Nice work.

Thanks for posting this pic. Gives a good close look at the scale of the flecks. This might be just about right for my Revell Hemi-Hydro boat. I got a rudimentary start but didn't know where I wanted to go with it. This might get me back to it.

In the past I switched to Chrome because it was less problematic than Safari, so I'll explore that too. -

I got a 404 error "page not found" this afternoon when I tried to start a topic with a link to Fotki pic. Tried 3 times before giving up. Mac OS 10.14 Mojave using Safari, don't recall what version but it would be recent because the computer is new. -
What do these go to?

The middle tree goes to the AMT '59 El Camino. Large lens is half the custom tail lights for the custom tailgate. -
For D Day- what is was really like. PICs
Lunajammer replied to Scott Colmer's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The gentleman in the middle of this photo, Bill Hayes, (chin on Ike's thumb) is from my hometown, Fargo, ND. Lived here before and long after the war, and nobody knew that was him until around the 50th anniversary of D-Day. But these men (my father included) never blew their own horn or insisted on being entitled. To read Bill's account of this photo and what happened to him afterward, there's a cool article HERE. -
What do you listen to while you build???

Sweet, sweet silence. The chance to be alone with my own thoughts. -

Those '71-'72 RR variants are already so sexy you can hardly go wrong with customizing. Great start, keep it going.

Ebay seller offering this as a sculpture and/or replicated movie prop. At first I thought it was BS, but the story behind the artistic effort is actually kind of interesting and worth a read, if not a chuckle. https://www.ebay.com/itm/cubed-Christine-movie-1958-Plymouth-tribute-scrap-junkyard-scene-Stephen-King/273447244907?hash=item3faab9d46b:g:i-4AAOSwwVBbkeh2

I regret I've been conspicuously quiet and haven't joined this year. I like the category and would like to participate, kit in hand. I just haven't touched my bench since before Xmas.

21ST ANNUAL NNL NORTH - MAY 19, 2019
Lunajammer replied to Jim_Kampmann's topic in Contests and Shows
Anyone got pics, albums, galleries etc? -
I've had two Ranger XLT 4x4 reg cab 6-cyl. 5-spd with LONG BED. It's heavy duty in a small size and that extra foot of the long bed has time-and-again made all the difference. Wish I had a new version of it, because mine is pretty worn out. Otherwise it's the perfect all season northland truck for me.

Yup, '59. Yeah, fins and all that, whatever. Regardless, all my life I've thought '59 was a transitional year that put a period on the end of 1950's styling and turned its head to the future. But short lived, because I think 1961 was also a transitional year that brought styling back down to earth, where it remained the rest of the 60's and beyond. Both years are my favorite.
