I was warned about the headers so never attempted them! I used headers from my parts box that weren't perfect, but fit. My blower scoop (on two kits!) had a big depression on top so I had to find a replacement.

When I put the longer 4 cylinder engine (kit has V6) in my Jeepster, I moved the radiator forward. I believe Chevy did that with the Tri-fives. Or look at the parts that make up the front of your engine.. is there anything there you can make thinner. In the past I’ve shaved down pulleys and even eliminated the fan on one that had a big radiator shroud. -
Welcome to our well organized chaos! Great bunch here!

Nice work! I’m also a fan of pinning everything together. Joe Cavorley taught me that many years ago! -
My wife had that whinefest on last night, so I hid in the model room. The only take away for me is that the Monarchy took away their security detail and they are in California. All we need is one nut job...

That is sweet! Nice job on it!

One More Jeep..

Earlier this week... here is the completed chassis. V8 is from the Falcon Modified Stocker with intake from the V8 in early Jeepster kits and valve covers from the parts box. Just sitting for the pose on Friday This weekend I mated body and chassis. All under hood plumbing and accessories are complete. Interior is complete except for Round 3 of fiddling with the steering wheel. Early MPC chrome was just coming off the bumpers upon touch, so they got stripped in Mr Clean tonight and are ready for finishing. Not sure if they’ll be white or chrome. We should be under glass this week! -

More work today.. at that point in the project where every little thing is a final detail, and you have to step away for drying time between each action! Body is permanently mated to chassis. Interior is complete except for steering wheel Take 3! Everything under the hood is plumbed and done. Made and mounted a fun license plate. Ancient MPC chrome came off to the touch on the bumpers so I’m soaking it off in Mr. Clean right now. Not sure if they’ll be chrome or white. Should be done this week for sure.

Wires look good and you are right about the Internet! Years ago people said it would kill the hobby but it’s done exactly the opposite! It’s pulled us all together, made research and buying easy and if you have a question you can get an answer in minutes! -

Not more models or even better models.. just another year to procrastinate! And still will be finished at the last minute!?

I was just on eBay this afternoon and saw all the diecast in the model section. Ones I just paid $10 for, with Buy It Now for $30... why? Trolling for suckers! Sellers figure they’ll catch someone who sees it and doesn’t know how to search further!

I take the kit instructions with a grain of salt. For instance they are making the leaf springs and exhaust system all “steel”, no doubt for the economy of not asking a casual modeler to buy more paint colors, but also the limitations of hobby paint lines. I would start with photos of an actual underside. You can look on the Internet for photos. I like eBay Motors, as classic car companies will put 40 or more photos of a vehicle in their ads. And you can find examples of freshly restored.. factory fresh all the way to weathered and trashed! When picking metallic tones, I’d vary between different depths of color. It’s good to have many paints in your arsenal. Testors discontinued their Metalizers line, but I used them constantly, ignoring the paint color names and just concentrating on the tones I needed to make the chassis look real. For instance, if you were going to use steel for exhaust pipes, you’d want another tone a degree darker for the mufflers and again darker for the leaf springs. Weathering takes on a whole new dimension. And it depends on whether you want to model a year old car, a used ten year old car or a trashed junker. Even cars that leave the dealers lot new have some dirt and start of rust on bolt heads etc.
