  1. Yea it’s no doubt carefully calculated do that the essentials are at the back of the store and you have to walk past all the big profit fake antiques to get there!
  2. Festive party hats ? ?
  3. My wife’s brothers! The three of them are totally clueless about cars. The eldest.. we were at his house and did a beer run. He’s driving and the left front wheel is screaming. I tell him he needs to park it and get it to a garage ASAP. He shrugs and says it’s been making that noise for a long time! Many months later he’s in the fast lane on the NJ Turnpike and the wheel implodes! He’s all over the road and thankfully was able to land it in the left shoulder. He still tells the story about why he’ll never own a Dodge Caravan again since this one tried to kill him! Same guy.. He replaced the Caravan with a Honda minivan and continued on his zero service program. One Christmas night we are all at a relative’s house. He loads his family in the van to leave and it won’t start. I open the hood to jump start it and find the battery end is totally rotted away! The top of the battery is completely covered with white corrosion. I have no tools so I managed to wrap the broken cable end in tin foil, wrapped it tight and jammed it onto the post. It starts! I warn him to drive straight home. Do not turn it off, it may not start again. And immediately take it to the garage and get the cable replaced ! I see him on AOL messenger about a week later, so I ask him how he made out with the repair. He tells me he never needed to.. what I did worked! Yea he was still driving it with tin foil! The youngest.. he had an old Pontiac Sunbird.. he’s driving one day and the engine stops. He gets it towed to my favorite garage. Mechanic tells me the engine seized solid.. there hadn’t been a drop of oil in it for a very long time. He’s owned it a few years and admits he never had the oil changed. He is whining he wants to sue the relative who sold him the car several years earlier! The middle one needed to borrow my Dodge Caravan and left his Honda Civic in its place for me to drive. I immediately notice that all four tires are worn totally smooth.. I never saw tires without a hint of tread like that! I confront him and he starts defending himself, saying that I had checked out the car for him when he bought it! I look at the odometer and tell him that was 80,000 miles ago! Yea, they’re out there!
  4. Thanks Claes, that’s the kit I have!
  5. Very cool! I used to own a 1960 Electra 2 door hardtop.. New Jersey car, rust in the usual places, which is why I never got it restored!
  6. Welcome Steve! You will see a bunch of your mates here!
  7. Bingo! There are a good number of decent and appreciative people in this hobby who understand this. Then we have the lumbering herd who see nothing but their own self interest and treat every entity in this hobby as if it’s Walmart there to serve them. When Don decided to retire, he had the absolute class to announce it ahead of time and offer a “last call”. As a result there were opportunists who placed large orders for the sole purpose of reselling at a profit. Not a thought to the human side of a man wishing to retire, only how they could profit from the situation.
  8. Absolutely! Ive been to many Hobby Lobby stores and everything has been exactly the same, down to what item is on what hook! Downright Stepford!
  9. ‘Tis a funny thing. I had an eye floater a while back. I had an eye doctor tell me he saw it during an eye exam. I don’t know when it went away, only thought about it when this thread appeared. Eye floaters remind me of when the flying saucer would suddenly dart across the screen during Space Invaders!
  10. During lockdown I placed a few supply orders via eBay. I just searched for the items I needed and would order from the cheapest source with free shipping.
  11. I just googled.. iron duke was made from 1977-93, Cavalier engine should work.
  12. Cavie engine is very nicely done. It does sit sideways so you’d have to work out a transmission. I don’t know if it’s right for the pickup though. Note that the Cavaliers haven’t been issued since the car was new but its an eternal $10 kit, easily obtained today.
  13. Very cool model! Take that to IPMS and they won’t know what to do with ya!
  14. Oh yea! Why do I feel a project coming on? ??
  15. Agreeing with Randy! There’s so much that has been done nicely in diecast that we will never see in plastic! If indeed you need to build it, there’s nothing wrong with starting a project with a diecast. It’s then a model, just in metal!
  16. Don’t take the easy route! These things always start with a “I wonder if I can make that...” moment. It may have some tough times and a bunch of redo’s but in the end it’s satisfying and you’ve gained a new skill and the confidence to tackle the next one!
  17. Very interesting fleet there Tim. Not one of them were sold in the USA!
  18. Hey folks.. not all that long ago we were concerned that Revell USA was gone. It’s been a trying year overall so can we all just be happy for a while?! I’ll take what ever good news I can get right about now!
  19. Vic is Victor Collins of New Jersey. He’s a decent guy and a friend of Dave Burket aka Model King. Vic sells at local shows, usually set up next to Dave. He casts budget friendly resin, repops of old rare kits, without chroming the shiny parts nor providing glass. His quality isn’t Modelhaus but fine for the market he aims for. Where it gets screwy.. Vic charges approx $25 for his kits at shows. He had no website or mail order. People have bought his stuff from eBay dealers who were charging in the $50 range.
  20. Per the eBay coupon.. I used mine on a $50 purchase, which was an order of several lower priced items from the same vendor. And most of it was sitting as won auctions from before I got the coupon, as I waited for the last item to finish up.
  21. Then you get to pick out a present! ?
  22. I guess the pressure is on the rest of us! ?
  23. Looks good! I’m glad the door handles worked out
