Ollie's strike again
Tom Geiger replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I pass an Ollies I stop in. The last few trips I haven't bought anything. Even at $8, those are the kits I see at local shows for $5. And they haven't had Duplicolor cans in a very long time! -
detail Pet peeve of mine!
Tom Geiger replied to Mercuryman54's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
as said, those models where the builder did a great job, but stopped one iota short! Yes the grills not being blacked out qualifies. My peeve? The car is all BMFed and looks great, but the builder didn't chrome the scripts or color the side lamps! -
First, no model car magazine attended the event. The photographer was Tim Sickle Powers, representing the club. No doubt his goal was to take photos of as many cars as he could, hoping to come up with a few different sets to send to the magazines for publication. I cannot fault him. As far as your original intent, yes. I took college level journalism and one sentiment was that the goal of the paper was to mention every man, woman and child in their readership area in the paper annually. Yes, people do like to read about themselves and other people they know. Those people buy the publication. Good business. So if I was writing the article, yes, I would try to give the readers as vast a report I could, sharing the different types of vehicles shown and the interesting ones. I would try to include as many names as I could. Otherwise it may appear that five people displayed models! Also note that when a freelancer sends in the report to the magazines, they usually send more photos and captions than will be used. The editors get the final say in what appears and order of placement.

Zip codes came about in 1963, a fact also useful in establishing time frames of boxes

Very nice work. I agree with you that there's nothing like the original issue! Here's an old built up from the original issue..

Dave Burket, Model King has twin sons. Neither of them had the slightest interest in models. Back in the day when they were in trouble Dave would bring them to a model club meeting as punishment! -
Lindberg Dodge 330
Tom Geiger replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just bought half a case of those for the slant sixes, which are the best one ever done in 1/25. Note that the chassis is a good replacement for the old Johan slabs. I hadn't noticed the body, really hadn't looked at this kit very well. I have a couple of the old Johan version somewhere. I'll have to pull them out for a looksee. -
Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
Tom Geiger replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought a Bronco at the show yesterday for $15. And just because I needed one for the Olsen Brothers resin parts I recently purchased! -
C1 is first rate. We know Chris personally from he and his partner Cheryl's annual visits to NNL East.

1/24 Yugo or Fiat 127 kit by chance?
Tom Geiger replied to aurfalien's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
My neighbor had a Yugo. He had cosigned on a $100 a month lease for his daughter's boyfriend, and shortly thereafter wound up with the car. So he used it as his commuter car. He had nothing bad to say about it. He said it did what it was supposed to do. With a sane adult at the wheel, it started every day and never broke or cost him money. At the end of the lease the leasing company sent him the option to buy the car. He declined. The leasing company declined to pick it up and sent him the title. He traded it in on something else. -

Yup. American Forces Network, brought to us via cable from Kaiserslautern aka K-town. I actually went on a school field trip to the radio station and got to broadcast an announcement. -
I saw Bill in person today and we were talking about it. Bill said his post had no photos (I thought it may have failed due to too many photos). He said there was just a quote, and the rest was the normal text he always uses. He said it was just in that thread. He went to other theads and posted fine.

The most common workplace accidents are trips and falls. Back when I owned these incidents, the causes were broken concrete or pavement, slippery or wet floors and womens shoes. I recently had to look at the current stats at my company... number one cause now is cell phone distraction!

How Old Are You

My father was US military attached to NATO so we lived in Izmir Turkey from 1966-68. There was no TV at all. It hadn't been installed there yet. We had no phone. Coca-cola was one of the few American brands sold there. Refrigeration was rare so we learned to drink Coke warm. When we got back to the states and they served us kids Coke cold it hurt our teeth and tasted funny! Then we moved to Germany from 1969-72. There was one English channel provided by the US military. Broadcast in black and white. It played years old US shows which was fine with us because we never saw them. To see anything current we had to watch German TV. We kids thought the Brady Bunch and Partridge Family spoke German... although the Partridge Family sang in English. When we got back to the states they all spoke English but had different voices than we were used to. -
When I was growing up in the 1970s my family lived across the street from a small office building that was a field sales office. They had a fleet of Torino 4 door sedans, each in a different color. They'd replace them like every two years. I think of those whenever I see this kit. BTW, I had a triple brown 1978 LTD II that we put way over 200,000 miles on. Later on I had my grandfather's 89 Crown VIc... same dark brown, that we also put over 200,000 on.

I'll be hitting the big 6-0 in September. It's fitting since we just held NNL East 32! My grandfather was 87 and on his deathbed when he said to me, "It all went so fast! I still feel 18 inside!" -
Okay, funny story. I did not rehire the landscaping company that mowed my lawn last year because of some issues. Five of my neighbors agree and one of the guys is bidding out the six lawn package. Then I get home yesterday and somebody mowed my lawn. They didn't mow the one on either side of me (also part of the package deal). Nobody has come forward to admit they mowed the lawn!

You are so far off base! The Diversified Scalerz and Tri-State Scale Model Club have a relationship. You will see their members, who are also members of our club, working at NNL East. They were at our club meeting the week before the show, helping to stuff the goody bags. You will see TSSMCC guys working their show in September. Maybe you noticed their large diorama and display at NNL East the past few years. If you saw the improved AV and large screen TV at NNL East this year, that was provided by the Diversified guys. This group of great younger guys has gone way out of their way to be part of the organized hobby in this area. They attend every show in the region and are friendly and approachable. Their show had been held in a smaller hall until last September when they stepped up to be in the Wayne PAL Building. Let's just say that our aging herd did not respond as well as we would have liked. Their response was to make this year's theme "All American Muscle Car 1967-72" to show that they are open to everyone. So it's up to our over 60 demographic to respond. We all whine that the hobby is dying, but these young guys are extending their hands in friendship. So it's up to us all to respond accordingly. Be there on September 29th. -
Tri-Five Chevrolet (no 56 Convertible)????
Tom Geiger replied to ranma's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Exactly! I’ve seen it done, on one of the forums. I believe SE LTD offered that conversion as a kit -

Tom Geiger replied to Impalow's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Eric, this is the first time I saw this thread! So I read it beginning to end with great interest! And this is how it all ended... note that Eric lost a bunch of weight since last year's photo. I believe I found it! -
Junk from an Ebay seller?
Tom Geiger replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"junkyard model cars and parts" (exact quotes in "") brings up zero found in all of eBay junkyard model cars and parts (without quotes in automotive models) brings up a few random lots, nothing expensive
