AMT '58 Plymouth Belvedere - Improving that side trim
bisc63 replied to Smitty's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good job; that is SUCH an improvement! Love that color choice as well! -
Quality over quantity anytime! Very nice builds all around, and as much as I love the properly scaled details on that engine, you really had me at Me-262. Great job on that one.

That's just pretty! Nice work.

Early Iron series was from Monogram, and all 1/24.

Gorgeous shade of blue, and I really like how clean your engine is. Shaping up nicely!

Nice! What did you have? I amassed Frankenstein's Monster, Dr. Jekyll as Mr.Hyde, Creature from The Black Lagoon, Dracula, and The Forgotten Prisoner of Castle Mare! All lined up on one shelf where I could see the glow-in-the-dark parts from my bed at night. For good measure, and because he was the right height, I also had a Godzilla at the end of the row! My mom wonderfully understood that I would always be happy at gift-giving occasions to receive any model kit with "Aurora" on the label. Oddly, I never had any of their car kits, but planes, monsters, figures, and dinosaurs were all welcomed, with the F-9 Panther being my first ever built-completely-by-me. I considered the big green Allosaurus my greatest triumph as a kid! Man, thank you so much for jogging those memories loose; what times they were... -

That DecoArts color reminded me very much of the old Testors color "Lime Gold". That Lime Ice really has that 70s show car/bike metal-flake look, and its perfect for this build! -

Love the color, and how the red-lines work with it. Well done! -
Questions about the Lunar Lander kit

Here's another version of the instructions that show it is indeed the left-side manifold to use for a single exhaust setup. This kit was never a 2-in-1 kit, but there was a different version: the 53 Indy Pace Car. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/linberg/lindberg-53-ford-vi/1953fordcrestlinevi-2.html#media

Questions about the Lunar Lander kit
bisc63 replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There was an excellent article some years back in FIneScaleModeler magazine that dealt with detailing this kit that went into it pretty deep as I recall. The lander was built to be light weight, so most of it is aluminum or some alloy of it, so using your favorite metal paint finishes in assorted textures ( flat, polished, etc.) make for a fairly attractive model straight out of the box, but there is always room for improvement! I would trash the mylar, and go out and buy a couple of Rolos candy "bars". Each segment of Rolos is wrapped in a very nice, thin, gold colored foil that will yield absolutely realistic results for the gold foiled areas of the model. It will take just a small dab of glue ( Elmer's, super glue, anything really) to hold it in place since is real metal foil and will wrap and crinkle and nearly hold itself in place. If I can find the article mentioned, I'll reply here again with the info. As for the base, just use some plaster of paris powder, arrange as desired and mist with water in a very fine spray , like from a Windex bottle. Good luck! -
Possibly early 60s Pontiac, Bonneville or Catalina. Here's a '63 from the web that is VERY close, differing in minor engraving details, so could even be AMT vs, MPC or some such. Definitely has the Poncho style frame rails, making 90 degree-ish turns abruptly at each end of the rocker panels, where most other GM frames curve more gently.

Just now saw this for the first time, and what a beauty it is! Outstanding build and presentation. I have one of these in the stash somewhere, and mine is molded in a bright orange. Was yours molded in color as well? -
Has anyone used Folk Art (acrylic) paint?

Same here, just the text: "Image preview." -
Gotta love 'em all, but it's hard to refute the cool factor of the red rod.; classic color scheme and immaculate building technique just gets SO much right in my book! The more I look, the more I like. Well done.

A nice collection, and some Logan's Run in the mix! Classic stuff. Well done.

Hard to beat a red 'Vette, and what a beautiful shade of red it is! Very well done build, one to proudly display.

That's looking fantastic!

Ha! I don't know if I would have, I sorta have a soft spot for these traditional customs. This has the look of the cover cars from the little custom magazines of the 60s. Some of the designs were a little "out there", but it was a vibrant and optimistic time for backyard customizers.

The only thing missing is a wasp nest in that headlight opening!
