My new model room in our new home.
espo replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great idea to gut the area and start over. Cost a little more going in but pays off in the long run. The white walls really brighten up the room and bounces the light around to make the whole area brighter. You even have a window to vent your spray booth, just need a place to mount it. -
That would be a beautiful looking color and I recall seeing a few when new. My personal color idea on another build would be in a shade of red like they offered at the time. You mentioned the issue with masking the trim. I did mask of the lower body side molding along with the splash trim behind the rear wheel opening. My thought was to try and save as much of the models trim detailing in that area as this can often be lost under a few coats of paint. I did end up using a lot of masking tape around the side and upper body molding to help guide the trimming of the chrome foil. I had used a #11 to outline all of the chrome before and after the first primer coats but the upper moldings were still so light it was hard to see. Another advantage was that the new sheet of chrome foil I had would leave adhesive residue on the finished paint and by masking the edges of the trim most of it was on the masking tape when removed. Something to consider for next time.

Revell 1/25 Formula 1 speedboats - anyone know more?
espo replied to robdebie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would still be interested in a trade for the boat and trailer. The cowling you mention, is that for the engine or the area between the driver's seating area and the stern and engine mounting area? -
Great looking paint color and the finish is really smooth looking. I've not built this kit and wonder about the vinyl roof portion. Is the vinyl roof a separate part from the body?

I might be interested in a trade for the boat and trailer and the truck as well if you're not thinking of building it. What sort of kits are you looking for? -
Beautiful looking body work and paint. At first glance from the front, it almost looks like the body has been sectioned. The wheel opening arches look like they have been raised. A lot of design Q's without looking busy. The chassis and engine designs go perfect with the body styling.

Beautiful looking paint color and finish. The engine detailing and color use really catches your eye. Like you, American Torque Thrust 5 spokes are my default wheel on anything.
-
Great looking paint finish and like the pin stripes on the rear deck. Always like seeing just how good a kit like this can look out of box and just cleanly built.

My ‘98 Camaro Z28, replica ish. Kitbash delux.

I feel your pain. You obviously made your Camaro look special and took care of it. Always hurts when you see a car you worked so hard to create and maintain and then have the next owner treat it like its nothing. Have had this happen more times than I can count. -
Like the look of your engine. The wiring is cleanly done and the colors and finishes on the engine, carbs, and transmission all look realistic. I remember using white VHT paint on my headers as well. They would get a strange creamy off-white color with age.

Think the darker Fuchsia with the White interior would look "richer" than the black and white combo.

Painting with Tamiya Pearl White - TS 45

Like the paint finish. Kind of mixed on the stripes but depends on what you're trying to represent. I'll join you next month on the 80 club. As for the subject, this has always been a kit that I have enjoyed, and I was with my father when we picked up our new '49 Ford Custom 4 door. I have owned a couple of '51's in my early years so this body style has a special place in my heart. -
Great looking Starliner build. With the faint side molding along the fender tops your method may make more seance than all the foil I used.
-
You're right about that. Like so many cars of this era, Detroit still liked to hang a lot of chrome on their cars. I used a third of a brand-new sheet of foil on this.
-
You're right about the rust issue since at the time I lived in the outer burbs of Chicago. The quarter panels on cars would rot off by the time you got anywhere near the end of the payment book.
-
That is a good idea. Not likely to see many vinyl roofs on my builds, just a personal choice.
-
Gave it a light polish and did the chrome foil. Will still need a light wax on the paint to make shine the way I want.

Great looking "Petty Blue" color. The interior color looks good. Always liked the factory Rally Wheels on these cars.
-
Great looking paint finish and this color combination was very popular in that era. The interior pattern looks realistic for the Caprice.
-
Beautiful looking paint color and finish. The interior looks great with the interior decals. Very cleanly built and detailed. Like the wheel and tire combo.
-
Very elegant looking just like the real car. Like how you represented all the different finishes.

I agree with Emre, the time spent with your granddaughter has to be really special for both of you. Her Corvette looks great.

As Dennis mentioned you may already have the needed shifter and consol. He also mentioned detailing the part to better bring out its appearance. Tamiya Panel Line Accent or their Smoke brush paint work well for showing the edges of a shape on a heavily chromed kit part.
