This looks interesting, but a real challenge unless you stay with all the custom body mods.

Anyone seen a 75/76 Duster grill?
espo replied to DusterJoe's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I had to relook at it a couple of times. At first glance it looked almost like it was done in reverse. I think the reflection from the chrome treatment is such that it confuses the eye. I think it is done correctly after studying it for a while. -
Great looking paint color and finish. I have always been a fan of the deep dished wheel look also. The engine detail is a good day two look with the engine color and the air cleaners. Very nice looking interior and it matches the exterior well.

Love these tires. What was your source for the tires and the decals ??

California and its taxes is one of the reasons I left. I loved living there and all of the different micro climates and weather in general. I had lived near the beaches in SoCal, Santa Monica, as well as the San Bernardino National Forest. The central coast area north of Santa Barbara and the Monterey Peninsula before moving to Sacramento. While I enjoyed it, all of the personal income taxes along with the taxes on everything else was just eating my lunch. I don't see where it's gotten any better in the last 20 years since we left. -
X2 Had an infestation at a former residence. The nice thing about using Decon is the carcass doesn't smell. The bad thing is it will take out a cat or dog so be carful where you put the trap.

Great looking conversion and I like all of the added details for the body and interior.

Tamiya Subaru WRC 05'

Great looking paint and finish. The decals all look perfect and cleanly done. -
I enjoyed watching you restore this one. Turned out great. I'm glad you left the message that this was posted here as I might not have found it otherwise. Great looking color and finish.

Great looking paint work. Very cleanly detailed. You might want to check the Tires as they are a directional design tread. The drivers rear looks correct.

Beautiful looking save. I really like the color and with the white interior it stands out even more. Nice to see the eight lug wheels as they just look right on Pontiacs.

'61 Chevy Impala SS - A BlackSheep214 Production
espo replied to BlackSheep214's topic in Model Cars
Great looking day two car. I like the stance, or what used to be called a California Rake, and the wheels and tires look right on this. -
I like your paint treatment on the Headlights, it's hard to get those solid plastic chromed things to look realistic. Suggestions. Maybe use some flat black inside the wheel wells, otherwise I think it looks great as is.

The total build looks right on. The Grill and front Bumper along with the rear Bumper look like they may have been cast from an original '68 model. The dark blue color really makes this a sleek looking body.
-
Your upper door frames look perfect. Nice looking engine.

I'm starting to like this color more and more. Just need to find the appropriate model for it. Great looking engine and the wire looms work well as does the finish on the exhaust manifolds. They have a perfect color and the finish like a casted part would have.

I think the chrome foil really wakes up the appearance of an other wise ho hum looking car. Had a music teacher in grade school who drove the ugliest dark green '48 coupe you ever saw. Like anything, if it's built cleanly and well detailed it will improve it's appearance no mater what it is.

I like how the body proportions have turned out with the way you have done this one. As for the wheels. Consider waiting until you have the body in color before altering them as they may look different against the Pearl White you mentioned earlier or what ever color you go with. Should you go with something other than white you may or may not want to use that as an accent color on the wheels instead of the red. Doing the line in black also might be an idea.

Speaking of the cost to register a vehicle in California. For most of my life I lived and worked in both southern and Northern parts of the state and was in the retail car business. At one dealership we also sold Motor Homes. You would be amazed at the number of buyers who had either an Oregon or Nevada residence to register them at. We had to physically deliver the vehicle in that state and have all papers notarized by a local notary in order for the buyer to avoid not only the registration fees but also the California sales tax. I don't know if Oregon still doesn't charge sales tax, but it was a very big deal on a $30k+ coach. Remember this was over twenty years ago and the selling prices were much lower than now. -
58 Edsel Annual hood ornament
espo replied to hedotwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If all else fails you could remove the present upright portion of the Hood Ornament . Then make a small piece of spruce to fit the opening in the hood with the top at the same level as the Hood. Use what ever chrome treatment you prefer and mount the upright portion to that. A lot of sanding and shaping but you wouldn't damage the paint, which looks great at this point. -
You have to wonder just how often the NY DMV requires someone to take all of the tests without someone requiring them, and why ?? The PD Chief my not even know any of this has been happening to you.

I have used half round 1 mm and 2 mm strips in the past and this seems to be in proportion depending on the subject. The '64 Impala used a flat shaped trim moldings so I would suggest getting flat stock for this. I have used Plastuct products but there are others out there also. Just like paint you may want to practice a little to get a feel for it. I also use Tamiya liquid cement, but again there are many other products out there. Just find what you're comfortable with and go with it.

You just know that someone at the PD is trying to cover their you know what's on this. The next thing will be them contacting your insurance company. I would contact the Chief or whoever is in charge of the department and politely let him know you're starting to feel like you're being harassed and see if he can't put a stop to it. Next step is your elected official that would represent you in your area followed by a call to the local TV station that likes to cover such happenings. 99.9 plus percent of people in law enforcement are good and under appreciated by far to many, but this is the type of situation that ruins it for them because someone doesn't want to own it when they get it wrong.
