Well now you know why they were $10. Big challenge with this one. The overall appearance and shape of the body looks good. You can see the Mercury roots in this body just like the 1:1. This will be interesting to watch.

Lowrider-ish Narrow White Walls
espo replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree the Sovereigns are your best bet for the lowrider look. Don't recall seeing many Corvettes done in this manor, but I have seen a few 1:1's done that way years ago. -
Finally back at the desk!

All ways nice to have your own space. Your work desk looks nice and well organized. I don't know what type of overhead lighting you might have, but it looks like you're going to need additional lighting. -
Lowrider-ish Narrow White Walls

Some of the "tuner" style kits have small tires and the AMT Corvair kits had them also. the problem is that most of the small diameter tires usually only fit small diameter wheels. -
The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned
espo replied to David G.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We got a new '98 GMC Jimmy for my wife. This model had the memory seat option, so when ever she drove the car it would recognize her key and the seat would adjust to her setting. The problem was that she would be driving down the freeway and hit a bump or a big expansion crack in the roadway and the seat would start to pin her to the steering wheel. She's 5'10" so this becomes a real problem at 70 + MPR. After several trips to the dealer we got a Tech. who seemed to know what he was doing. When they car was built and they installed the seat wiring it was improperly routed under the seat frame and this would cause the seat to go to the full forward position under certain road conditions. He rerouted the wiring correctly and no more problems. -

I like the shortened pick-up bed. Very nice paint finish. Did you use a Jag engine ? -
My latest Jed mobile

This looks just like the 1:1 TV car. You got every little part hanging off this in a very realistic way. The finish is perfect. -

Very clean looking build. I like the paint finish and the color goes well with the interior. -

I enjoy looking at all of the little details everywhere you look in this. -
I like the diorama setting. I question if the Intake Manifold would still be on the Engine with the Heads off. Great detailing of the engine parts and the front suspension. I'm interested in the tire tread design on the front tires. Were they from this kit ?

Looks great to me. You're right about the interior and the engine bay, they both look good. I also like the paint color and finish. These were under appreciated cars when new. The OHC 6 could be had with everything from a fuel sipping single carb. running on regular gas too a premium fuel big cam'd Quadra Jet carb. and a 3-speed or a 4-speed and the TH350 auto.

Golden Sahara Restored

You are correct on the price of the Chris Craft. When I lived in Sacramento we would often go to Lake Tahoe and we attended the annual Boat Show there several times. The owners of a few of this model of boat were always there at the show. As I recall they were only offered starting around 1949 and only built thru the early '50's. This to me is still one of the best looking wooden boats ever. They still have this show every year during the summer, anyone living within driving distance with any interest in restored wooden boats should make it a point to attend this event. Many of the owners even dress in the period of their boats and there is also some period boat tow vehicles also on display. -
Beautiful looking build. Exceptional chassis detailing. The paint finish is great also.
-
Great idea for your build. Both sides are well done and very realistic looking.

Sure looks like the real thing. To bad you didn't get a chance to verify if it was real or not. The paint and interior look almost to good to be that old so it may of been redon at some point.

The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned
espo replied to David G.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought a late '30's Chrysler a very long time ago. I paid $50.00 for it and it was intact and ran well. I bought it for some planed activities with some friend for Halloween. Being in our late teens you figure out what we were up to, and yes Coors was involved also as I recall. The problem with the old Chrysler was that with age the threads in the brake drums where the lug bolts attached the wheels were worn and the right front had to be retightened periodically. I even tried using lock washers. No this is a very bad idea, but I got bolts that I welded to the inside of the right front brake drum and then regular wheel lug nuts to attach the wheel. This lasted well enough during the festivities and was still in use when I sold the car for much more than I paid for it only a couple of months later. Ever since then I have been very carful to be sure any vehicle I have driven was in good working order. You might call it Self Preservation on my part. -
Wow ! Is this based on a kit I don't know about or is from some other kit that heavily modified ? The body and paint look great.

I like this. The win was because of Curtis Turner, he was one of the early drivers that could "wheel" anything and make it a winner.

What did you see on the road today?
espo replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stupid drivers don't know where they are anyway. They would crash no matter where they are. -

Older manifolds
espo replied to Scott Colmer's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
Those are the early Long Ram versions used mostly on passenger cars. He has some interesting looking 6 cylinder manifolds also. Makes you wonder how he gets all these manifolds in the first place.
