  1. Great job on this conversion.
  2. Chevrolet offered those wheels as an option on several of it's car lines and were even part of the SS package on our new '85 Monte Carlo. In that application they were painted what Chevrolet used to like to call Argent.
  3. In the 1:1 world these were little more than a Dragster with the semblance of a body covering the cockpit. I'd look at any of the AMT or Revell kits of early Dragsters for the front wheels.
  4. Not getting into the style of build, that's kind of a personal issue and depends on your own personal tastes. From an engineering stand point this looks interesting. From the picture it would seem that the transversal leaf springs have a mounting point behind the front cross member. The style of mounting is often called a "Suicide" mounting. this is usually in front of the front frame cross member. You can't really see most of the suspension, but it would seem that the leaf springs are mounted to swing arms that look much like the early Ford "Wishbones". I think that they split the bones and are using them as swing arms mounted to the frame rails. You can also see that the steering Drag linkage is mounted in front of the axel rather than behind. Next question: where is the Radiator?? I'd look in the trunk. Like I said it's just not a style I'm interested in, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the engineering that went into this rig.

  6. Very nice looking El Camino. This is a really nice kit to work with. I had a 1:1 '66 El Camino years ago, but it got stolen and was never found.
  7. The Ventura was an upgraded interior and exterior trim for the Catalina. The Bonneville was built on a longer wheel base and most of that was in the rear quarters and trunk area. I agree that the suggestion of the '59 or '60 Impalas from Revell might be the best way to get the chassis that you would need., of course with a Pontiac engine in place of the 348.
  8. Very nice clean build with great color. Young Miss Ella has good taste. Someone mentioned the tires and you replied that you thought the Red Line was to close to the tread. As I recall the early Firestone Red and White stripes were further out on the sidewall than other tire manufactures were doing at that time. The result was many right side tires ended up with a much wider stripe since so many would bounce off the curb when parking. I can remember White Letter tires winding up looking like White Walls.
  9. Beautiful build. Looks as good as the 1:1. I built a Venture a couple of years ago also. I was only able to get it looking as nice as it does by using the tips from MrObsessive. The core support and the windows along with the 8 lug wheels are a challenge but work perfectly following his advice. I really like your color choices, your builds are like looking at the showroom floor in 1961.
  10. Be thankful it's not December. I also hate how hard the manufactures have made it to work on our cars. Had a water pump let go on our '10 Charger. I thought no problem I have always been able to do water pumps with my eyes closed. First off the pump can't even be seen, and the belt tensioner imposable to move. I had to surrender and pay the dealer $700 to get it fixed.

  13. For anyone who hasn't had an opportunity to see this movie on the big screen you really must. I'm sure many have seen it on TV and that's great but it's not them same thing. Car chase movies were becoming popular when this film was made. There were some good ones but most were B grade at best. The only others that came close were The French Connection, 7 Up and very few others. Steve McQueen did his own driving and the "Baddy" in the Charger was a well known stunt driver at the time. When the production company got San Fran. to sign off on the street scenes the city never realized what was about to take place. I understand that later the debris hit the fan when they found out about some of the stunts.
  14. Beautiful looking Sunliner. Ford had a shade of green at that time and your mixture looks exactly like it.

  16. That cleaned up great. I agree with the Snake this is one to restore. There are plenty of the newer Revell '66 Impala SS kits around to do what ever you want, but Promos like this just aren't.
  17. Besides giving you a much bigger work area it looks to be far more stable than before.
  18. Like many others I followed your build in this model. Your build looks just as good as the 1:1 in your driveway.
  19. Great paint finish, very clean looking build. Hard to believe that the '37 Ford used to be called "the ugly duckling". The red wheels and louvered hood look perfect.
  20. Kind of like riding a bicycle isn't David. Welcome back. You will find much better kits to work with now.

    1953 Corvette

    Looks very nice considering what you had to work with. I like the different color you used. The kits of that era all seemed to set to high and the tires provided would be shared with all of the other kits the company offered. The result was often a tire that was to larger for say a Corvette and the wheel backs are often the first place to start to correct those problems.

  23. In 1967 I was fighting high insurance rates with a '66 Impala SS 396 4 speed. This was not the hottest setup but respectable all the same for my young family. After talking to my insurance agent we found out that they considered the Bel Air two door as a low risk car even with a V8 and they didn't seem to care which V8. Sooo I ordered a '68 Bel Air two door with the 427 and 4 speed. I had to take the 385 H.P. rated engine because we needed air conditioning. In addition to the 427 4 speed combo I had Posi with 3.55 to 1 rear end, disc brakes, F-41 sport suspension, the full instrumentation with tach in the dash same as the SS option. AM radio with the factory 8 track, once considered high tech - you laugh. I lived in the mountains in southern California so I had to have a rear window defogger. I added the Rally Wheels and the chrome moldings around the windows. There was a light group that gave you a under hood light, trunk light and front fender corner lights usually seen on Caprices. Painted red with the custom black interior. Yes it used to be like Burger King, they'd build it your way. Three years later the X and her new boy friend traded it in on a VW after he ran it into a tree. You just can't fix stupid.
  24. Your idea of building the black plastic '40 reminds me of one I built years ago. I sanded the few mold lines in the body and as I recall I removed some of the trunk lid details. I used good old Simonize automotive rubbing compound to remove all of the sanding marks and then finish came back about 99% of the gloss of the rest of the body. With the polishes we have today it shouldn't be a problem to get it 100%. Please post your build, I'd like to follow your build.
  25. Please tell me these are photoshopped. If they turned all those lights on at the same time the battery would explode like an ion battery.
