New Build 1957 Ford Del Rio Station Wagon Finished !
espo replied to Metalmad's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I don't know what clear you ended up using but it sure looks good. -
You might check the fittings where the plastic lines meat the brass fittings. These have a tendency to leak over time. Extended exposure of the hydraulic fluid to other surfaces is not good either.

Like most of the others here I will clean the Resin body or part with Dawn dish soap before and after any body work that is needed. I have been using the Tamiya primers with good results but the last couple of Resin builds I have started using Automotive type primers and feel that they maybe just a little bit better for the first coat of primer. After that I go back to the Tamiya primers and what every color coat I'm going to use. If you are not already doing any sanding or other body work on a Resin model away from your normal work area I suggest you start. The dust from sanding Resin can and will get on other components and give you problems with any future paint work.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. All of the details you did on this build are just so realistic looking. I like the subject and I really like how you have presented it.

Great looking paint and perfect fit and finish. I like how you detailed the grill and bumpers.

Very smooth clean finish on this GT.

Scale vehicle inspiring a 1:1 vehicle

Man I love your Impala. I had a '66 Impala SS that I bought new and have always like the looks and lines of the '65 and '66 bodies. The wheel treatment on your chrome wheels goes back to when there was very few affordable options for a daily driver. Rod & Custom Magazine had an article about the treatment you have done. Besides the solid color they also suggested using a tinted clear over the chrome mush like a candy Paint job. The chrome Spiders are perfect with the chrome valve caps. Sometimes "old becomes new" again. Take good care of your beautiful Impala. -
I agree with everyone else on the Headlights. That change alone made this a much better looking and realistic. The only suggestion I could offer on the Wood Graining would be to add some Wood Grain effect to the dark Brown colored portion, just a very little as sometimes less is more if you know what I mean. Well built.

Very nice redo on this GTO. The Red Interior really sets it off well. The Wheels and Tires really look perfect for this car.

Does the caster offer the Starlight coupe also ? Even as a child I thought the unique look of the "Built Nose" Studebakers was special. Nice looks convertible. Did you open the wheel wells or did it come that way ?

I always enjoy the Mecum Actions. I have attended the one here in Kansas City several times and sold my '95 Chevy 1/2 ton there in '10. They always have a very wide varied selection of vehicles to bid on. If I were looking to buy a special interest car or even an older daily driver I would look at what they have up for auction. I have seen many great prices for an older low mileage cars and trucks for drivers.

Very tastefully done. I like how the Flames sort of blend in with the dark Blue Body. With this Engine swap it looks like a very street worthy driver.

Great idea on the grand Sport theme. Beautiful paint work and detailing. I like your Wheel choice also.

I have also noticed this in several magazine spreads. I have to wonder if the photographer has a way of knowing who the builder is at the point that they leave the notice. The few shows I have attended the information sheet for the model describes what the builder had done to the kit but their name is not present. I understand that it is this way for the judging so that the judges don't show a preference to one builder or another. The photographer may be picking what they feel is the best looking build. In the shows I have attended the quality of what is displayed is such that it is almost impossible to say which is best since it is in the eye of the viewer.

Talk about not being Tech Savvy, my wife has to rest the clock in my car twice a year when we have the time change. I only have a cell phone so that Telemarketers can reach me about the latest and greatest whatever's they have to offer.

As for the "Six Lug" issue. There has to be a ton of Black Widow 6 lug wheels sitting in parts boxes all over the Forum. With the deep set outers it should be fairly easy to create the wheels if they are a must have. I like how you setup the cab mounts. -
Outstanding work on the distributer, it looks better than most aftermarket units I've been buying. The interior is very realistic looking also.

Except for the Lug Nut count those look about as close as you could get for wheels. -
You didn't mention the conversion to front wheel drive. That and the forward cab are an interesting idea. Well done.

Great build idea for this kit. I have seen this little truck on the weekly program and really like the look. If this has been built like their customer's car it should be a fun little hauler. I would double check what all they had done to the engine since I think it has been changed from stock. Try and replicate that engine and the wheels are a big part of its appearance also. -
I would think about doing the body side trim with a flat aluminum paint to keep it looking weathered like the rest of the body. Maybe check the rear Axle placement as it looks like it is set to far forward, or it maybe the angle of the picture.

You might want to check under Car Kit News/Review section as this was talked about there not to long ago. The general consensus was that the Body Side Trim going from rear to front goes up hill starting at the door when the 1:1 stays at a more level travel. The "C" Pillar is a little oversized being to wide viewed from the side. The "C" Pillar might be more trouble than it's worth to repair. The Chrome Trim cold be removed and use some Plasatruct used to create new moldings. -
I like your interior setup. A little trimming of the side bolsters and maybe a notch to clear the drive shaft tunnel and it should look almost factory.

Some people are just so "Self Centered" they don't even think about their actions and how they effect everyone else around them. They are SPECIAL and the rest of use just need to get over it.

This looks great. Perfect detailing everywhere you look. I like the very light trail dust on the lower body. Very realistic looking roof rack.
