Anyone with access to a 1983-1986 T-Bird?
espo replied to robdebie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are building a production T-Bird or a NASCAR version? This could be real cool if you are building a street car with the NSASCAR body, but if you're going NASCAR I think you could look at some of the old on line pictures of the racing versions to see. If you're going NASCAR remember that the "headlights" were just decals covering smooth body work in later years. -
$30+ kits - hows it affect you?
espo replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have been building and collecting for far to long. A couple of years ago I dumped a couple hundred kits to a reseller just to thin some of the stash and still have more than I could ever hope to build in the time I have left. So my problem is I'm a compulsive buyer. Like so many others I get my weekly 40% coupon for Hobby Lobby and check out what they have. The MSRP there has just gone thru the roof and they really aren't getting much of my money anymore. I did pickup a '69 Camaro Z-28 kit there last week that was marked $19.95 and used the coupon so it wasn't to bad. I have always bought several kits a year from my local hobby store and still buy 90% of my supplies there also. What I have noticed in the last couple of months is that Hobby Lobby has a retail price on a kit that runs from $6 to $8 more than the regular retailer on the same kit, and with the "discount" they really aren't that much different so the last couple of kits are bought at the regular hobby shop. At this point I'm only buying what I just must have and not what I think I may build some day. The new Revell Bronco is interesting but not something that I would normally build so I'm going to pass on that. But it looks like an outstanding kit for those who would. I understand that a Suburban is coming and I'll buy that for sure. As prices continue to rise I think we are already seeing a slow down in overall sales. Hopefully with many exceptions, most people aren't seeing an increase in wages so the model money is being spent for everyday expenses. Maybe as the sell rate drops the model companies may rethink there pricing. -
What I didn't finish this year ... but 1 is close
espo replied to Foxer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The TR4A looks interesting, but if you rush it you might regret it later. The '32, are you sure you don't want to shop the top?. The "Subby" . Both of these look like they could be finished in a short time. The Kombi is interesting, and I really look forward to the Merc. Woody, but that would take some time to get it just the way you want. What ever you do keep us posted. -

Belkits Volkswagen Polo WRC - Unboxing and Mini Review
espo replied to Jhedir6's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This looks like the most detailed kit I have ever seen. In the past I built a couple of Tamiya WRC models and enjoyed them, but this looks so much better. It is a shame that VW is pulling out of WRC next season. -
Thank you for the correction. I think I was mixing two different movies with the same basic storyline. I remember "White Lightning" now and that is what I was thinking off. Thunder Road was an earlier movie with Robert Mitchem, I think that's how he spelled his name. In that one he had I think a '51 Ford.

I like the wire wheels on the black car.

I have always admired your builds. These all look perfect. I have to agree with you on the '57 Fords, I have owned two in my life time and still miss them both.

Beautiful build. Hard to beat a well built Tri-Five.

67 (Gasser Style Street Freaky Nongasser Show Car) 'Vette
espo replied to James2's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Almost afraid to stick my head up. Has the dust settled? I'd really like to see what James has going on here. -
Very interesting build. Very creative interior. The plug wires seem somewhat out of scale. Beautiful paint job.

Great information and history lesson. I put a set of ET wheels on my '74 Chevy. C-10 pickup. They looked great but it was hard to keep the lug nuts tight and they would have to be re torqued often. I also had a set of Shelby wheels on my '67 El Camino. while this sit doesn't mention Shelby's I believe they may have been made by someone else with Shelby putting his name on them. They were a very good wheel and I even moved them to my '72 Nova when I sold the El Camino.

Great looking build. That would have been a Drag Strip Terror.

Nice clean build. I like the idea of the power train swap. The color and wheels look perfect together. We got my wife a new '90 Cavalier Z-24, 2.8 with a 5-speed, and enjoyed it for over 100k miles. It had an exhaust note somewhat like an old Jaguar and it was never at a loss for power.

Beautiful looking custom. Fords from this era really look good with these custom touches.
-
Looks like a fun build. Beyond the tire rub the outer edge of the slick looks like you just did a burn out.
-
Nice looking conversion, What did you use for the upper radiator hose?
-
Great looking build. Convertibles are fun.

Nice looking "Plain Brown Wrapper" . This reminds me of a Whiskey Hauler from an old movie . I think it was called Thunder Road or something like that. The character who was the driver of the Hot Rod hauler got to well known and ordered a new Ford sedan with the biggest engine at the time and it looked just like your model. They never did catch him.

All you need now is a Daisy Duke's Jeep and Boss Hawg's El Dorado convertible .
-
I like this a lot. I had commented about the size of the grill opening during your build. You are correct that with the bumper it now looks perfect. Perfect late '50's custom.
-
Turned out great. Considering this is kind of a primitive kit compared to what we have to work with now, it's good to see that something this nice can still be built out of it.
-
Great looking build. Wouldn't you just love to have that in your 1:1 garage.
