disconovaman Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Last month's club challenge was Camaros. So I built the AMT 70 Baldwin Motion Camaro. I turned it into a Z28 (with Motion parts) as an early 80's Highschool hotrod. I used to see cars like this on the road. I gave it Pa. licence plates too because those cars seemed to have taken the most abuse from the elements. I'm pleased with the end results this kit can be a challenge, the chassis and final assembly can be tricky. Thanks for looking, have a good day! ?
89AKurt Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Love the clapped out look! I live in a rural area, this is very common.
TransAmMike Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Pretty darn realistic looking "beater". Great job Anthony!!
espo Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Rust, Rust and more Rust in all the usual places. This might of even bounced of of a parked car once or twice in the past. As much as I love seeing a shinny Camaro this is a great dose of reality as to how so many ended up. Well built.
Spottedlaurel Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Very effectively weathered, rust-stained wheels and all - has a great look to it.
disconovaman Posted February 4, 2021 Author Posted February 4, 2021 Thanks Everyone! I was hesitant to try my luck at this kit but I'm glad I went with this style because it really lowered my expectations of the end result... Now I may take on the kit agian but this time I'll raise the bar just a tad...
Bills72sj Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 I love the look you are going for. You have done a great job. I am not sure if you know but the spoked portion of the mags were usually chrome plated cast aluminum. They would corrode white (aluminum oxide) not the the red rust associated with rusting steel such as the wheel hoops. I has a set on an old utility trailer and that is what they did.
Dragonhawk1066 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Nice job! That certainly looks like something one would fine here in Michigan!

You know? I did know that and that explains why the chrome always peeled off on the spokes and the rim itself rusted. I dull coated the wheels to give that look but the red-brown color was meant to be brake dust from neglect. But I think I may have went a bit overboard on that. ?
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Love it. You've done a great job capturing the look.
doorsovdoon Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 I like the missing section of the rear spoiler, the rest isn't far behind looking at that rust along the trunk! Great looking beater.
vincen47 Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Awesome job! Perfect for that high school kid in the early 80’s. Now today, that kid is grown up and looking back, wishing’ he still had it.

Models sure can tell a story... if he did still have it, hopefully he's had it restored ...I need to go on and build the restored version now...? Thanks to all... it's fun reading the comments.
Claude Thibodeau Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hi Anthony! Very well done. I feel I could have met this car on every street corner of my small town in the early 80's... CT
