Dan Hay Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 This is a tribute to the McGee/Scritchfield/Meyer 32 Roadster. It’s not an exact replica, but close. Many thanks to Ed at Drag City castings for the top. It’s his piece that inspired the entire build. Built from a Revell 32 roadster mostly box stock with the dash, windshield and grille insert from the 32 Rat Roadster kit. Flathead from the 32 sedan kit, and complete front suspension from the Revell Model A roadster, as well as wheels and tires from the same kit. 50 Pontiac tail lights from the 32 5w kit. The hood was the most challenging, I grafted in louvers for the hood top, and filed down original hood sides to the correct configuration. Tamiya red with wet look clear for paint. The main modifications to resemble the real one is the shortened and peaked frame horns, filled cowl vent and the extended trunk lid.
Flatout Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 Nice work Dan...beautiful tribute to an all time favorite!
tim boyd Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 Dan....excellent use of kitbashing and a very convincing result, too. Big Congrats! TIM
vr1000 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Dan - I just saw the real 1:1 car at the Petersen Museum this morning and I have to say that you nailed it!

TIM Thank you Tim, I've been drooling over your builds in SAE since I was a kid. 13 hours ago, vr1000 said: Dan - I just saw the real 1:1 car at the Petersen Museum this morning and I have to say that you nailed it! Thanks! That's high praise! Thank you to everyone else who shared kind words. Maybe one day I'll build a 1:1 32 Roadster.
MackT Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 That is an excellent replica of the epitome of 32 Fords. That is an awesome build.
alan barton Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 My hat is off to you for identifying all the pieces necessary to build such a convincing replica. Isn't it wonderful that Revell over the last 25 years has given us such a diverse range of important hot rod model parts? Almost like the 21st century version of AMT trophy kits. A lot of people would not have noticed the full length trunk lid. And Ed's rooves are a great addition to any traditional rod. Congratulations on a beautiful model. Cheers Alan
Dennis Lacy Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 While it may not be an exact replica the McGee roadster inspiration is immediately identifiable. Great stance, proportions and clean red paint job! It also makes me smile every time I see one of the parts I mastered (top) for Drag City Casting get used! ?
