Iโ€™ve seen some pretty decent looking stock wheels on some modern vehicles, (and some pretty darn ugly ones).

Iโ€™m pretty partial to the wheels on my 2005 Honda S-2000, but then again, I might be bit biased. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Couldn't seem to find if this was a real thread already, so here it is now. What are your Favourite Rims?

Mine are the stock 1966 Charger Rims

ย

1966 Dodge Charger | American Muscle CarZ

Do they make these rims in model 1/25 scale?

Were those actual wheels or just hubcaps (wheel covers over steely wheels)?

I've got Two. The first is for any American Hotrod. The Second is for Tuners, or Hot Hatches.

1. Centerlines, Auto Drag.

Yes, those Centerlines look really good. Back in the day I had them on my '76 Camaro.

I also want to mention that I strongly dislike any black colored wheels.ย  With the black tires that combo looks too drab to me.ย  Wheels need some contrast from the tire.

I think the closest match you'll find in 1:25 scale is the wheels from AMT/Lindberg's 1966 Chevelle SS 396.

Doesnโ€™t the Revell โ€˜65 Z16 Chevelle have those hubcaps as well?

I also like the Pontiac honeycomb wheels from the 70's. My red '79 Trans-Am had a set of gold ones.ย

I have yet to find a vehicle that doesn't look better with a set of classic split rim BBS wheels. Be it the RS, the LM, or any of the others. A classic BBS mesh just works on everything.

Stock '69 XL GT rims also grab my fancy

1969 Ford Galaxie GT - General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) - Model Cars Magazine Forum

Those are pretty much the same wheel covers as the ones on your Charger pics and the 65-66 Chevelle.ย  Also found on 68 Shelby Mustangs.

It turns out they are those faux rims hubcaps. Had no idea. Those fake rims were probably a ploy to deter hubcap stealers. If I was one (not saying I go around with a flathead screwdriver and pry off hubcaps) I would totally have been fooled.ย

Those Charger wheels were in fact full wheel covers. They were offered in 1966 on mid-sized Mopars (Chargers, Coronets, Belvederes and Satellites). I think they were also offered on Barracudas, Darts, and full size cars (Monaco/ Polara, Fury) with 14" wheels. They might have also been offered by Chryco in 1967, and maybe later. You don't see them often.ย

They were also offered by Chevy, Ford, and perhaps some other brands. I do remember MPC's old Jeep Jeepster Commando Annuals coming with them as the stock wheel some years. I have a few sets of those Jeep wheels in my parts box. I wonder if they were all supplied (with different center caps) by the same vendor to the Big 3 + Jeep back then, like the Motor Wheel Magnum 500 was.ย  ย ย

1966 was when "mag" wheels were coming into vogue. Actual "magnesium" wheels weren't very practical for street use (they were fragile, expensive, and magnesium had problematic chemical properties) and styled steel or aluminum wheels (much like the Motor Wheel Magnum 500) were only just becoming available.ย

The "mag" wheel cover gave the mag wheel look without the expense or fragility of actual mags before styled steel wheels became more widely available.ย ย  ย

Edit: I don't think I've seen factory photos of '66 Darts, Barracudas, or C Bodies with those wheel covers, but I'm pretty sure I have seen photos of '67 A- and C- bodies with those covers.ย  ย

I agree, what if any company say like Moebius could make them like Monogram did.
