I finally bought a diecast to fill that gap!

Tom Geiger Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 I didn't get any new models, not even at NNL East. I was just too busy to hit the vendors myself! But Bob Shelton gave me this very cool watercolor he did of my photo that I had posted on the boards..... Bob's watercolor.... of my photo of the original truck with my model on the hood.... And a close up of my Foose pickup. I'm very grateful that Bob was so nice to think of me! That's the fun part of NNL East, the people!
Mike999 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Flea Market Day, and I didn't find anything...except a table full of boring NASCAR kits. But one vendor had this for sale, and I thought some of you geezers might enjoy seeing it: The Sears-Marx #9555 Professional Slot Car set. This thing is 1/24 scale and HUGE. One of its possible layouts takes up 4x10 feet. It came with 2 cars, a light-blue Chaparral and a (of course!) red Ferrari 250 GTO. It was in very good condition, the decal sheet with racing "meatballs" and numbers etc. had never been cut. The Chaparral pickup had a problem and needed some soldering. The price wasn't bad and the seller was willing to negotiate. He didn't want to sell it on eBay because of the size. But in the end, I had an attack of good sense and didn't make an offer. I could probably fit it in the basement, but it might interfere with the stacks of kits...
DPNM Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Not all today but these came in. They are for 2 builds I plan to do. The '29 Ford came from JollySipper. The '55 from DrKerry along with a DuVall style windshield frame and glass for the '29. These both arrived Monday. The '48 Ford convertible came today. I got it for the flathead engine. The '29 was soaking in Super Clean 15 minutes after I opened the box.
espo Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I picked up the Revell Porsche Farm Tractor at Hobby Lobby yesterday. It's kind of a simple basic kit but looks like it will build out very nicely.
Gramps46 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I received 2 Revell 1967 Corvette Sting Rays. Painted but not glue bombs. I think I have enough parts to finish them off.
unclescott58 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Here are a couple kits I got today from one of favorite mail order venders, Model Roundup. Between their great online newsletter, and their support of hpiguy's YouTube reviews, I have to throw a little money their way from time-to-time. That, and their great service and selection. Good people to deal with.
Plashdaddy Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I got this one in a Facebook Marketplace deal, it’s all there too! I’ve been offered a Monogram ‘Boss A Bone’ Box, decals & instructions (But no model dammit!) from the same seller, but have no idea what to offer for it.
SfanGoch Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Nice! In contrast to what others say about this kit, I like it.

I like the concept of these models, but they're very finicky, and they've been re-popped for so long that the newer issues are absolutely loaded with flash. Steve
Rob Hall Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Got my 2 preordered 78 Dodge D100s from Model Roundup today.
Mark Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 The '55 is still quite buildable, but has some quirks (one rear inner wheelwell is wider than the other) in addition to the flashing issues. The hinges in all of these kits are sloppy also. The '57 hardtop is the next "least worst": problems include poor rear glass fit, lack of headlamp buckets, frame mounts that are supposed to attach to the bellhousing miss by a mile, and so on. All of the old Tri-Five kits have post-'57 engine blocks with side engine mount bosses and ram's horn exhaust manifolds too. If you must have the '56 sedan, get a first issue kit. Later issues are unbuildable: windshield and rear glass fall through the openings among other things. Only a glutton for punishment should attempt the '57 Nomad.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Picked up a few of these very inexpensively as guts-donors for the AMT Tudor and resin Fordor-body-based builds I want to do. The AMT-based round-back cars will go on the better detailed Revell chassis, while the Revell coupe bodies will go on the AMT chassis, which work well when heavily modified for hot-rodded and boxed race-car frames, but leave something to be desired for close-to-stock. Lotta other parts from these Revell '40 Fords are perfect for period rods, too.
Richard Bartrop Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 The running gear is about as close as we're ever going to get to a traditional hot rod parts pack.

I like how the engine parts are cast so you can build it with the innards exposed for a diorama or something. And Mr Sfangoch, I’m still working on my Aussie Four Door 56 you sent me pics for.

Being by Tamiya, the above I'm sure is a very nice kit. But, I'm personally shocked by how ugly the car itself is. This is strictly a matter of personal taste. But, I was shocked seeing this car here for the first time. It's not like the beautiful Ford GT-40s or Porche 917s of 50 years ago. I hope no one takes this comment too personal. Like I said, being Tamiya, I'm sure it's a very nice kit. And if David and others like the looks of the car. That's okay too. To me it looks way too futuristic and way too robotic. I know it's probably a better car than the ones raced 50 years ago. But, it just doesn't look right too me.

I fell in love with the box art as a kid and would buy that kit as a 10 year old, and hopelessly fail at building it. Then at 11 I'd reason I was older and try again, same results! Never did get one together.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Got another couple these guys, again, cheap cheap cheap. It's a snapper kit and it has issues, like a hood and chassis that are several scale inches too short. However, it's buildable as both a fendered car and fenderless, and comes with two chassis, and a few other useful bits. The body from one of these, however, is slated to give up some of its panels to assist in developing a reasonably accurate stock-roof '33/'34 3-window body shell that will fit the pretty good AMT 5-window kit with no other modifications. The OLD AMT '34 3W is really horrible, and as far as I know, the ancient Monogram '34 3W in 1/24 is the only really decent stock '34 3W out there.

There are a few versions floating around, and I can't give a guaranteed 100% definitive answer. HOWEVER...in my experience, the "pre-decorated" version of the kit (molded in black) that comes with flames printed on does NOT come with the extra chassis. The blue one with THIS box-art that SHOWS a fenderless car (below) comes with the standard chassis molded as part of the fender unit, and another chassis that can be built fenderless. Kit #1943 The optional flames in 1943 are stickers, not decals. Edited May 4, 2019 by Ace-Garageguy

Come to think of it, I'm not 100% sure it even came with fenders.
