Went into the garage to find my 27 year old water heater gave up the ghost. $1300 later I've got a new water heater.

27 years? I'd say you got your money's worth and $1300 is cheap for a replacement

What irked me today? Going into my Testors spray paint stash and finding 6 cans of paint with orange goo all around the bottoms that leaked out. I don't know. I cleaned off the cans the best I could and will leave them upside down so I know how many are effected. I've had regular cans of spray paint that's lasted years. Why is this such a problem with Testors paint. I think it is mainly the lacquer paints being affected.

I have thrown away maybe $200 of the lacquer over the last few years. I was buying discontinued colors at the LHS just to have it in stock. They are on my "list" for sure. Except for Dullcoat, they have lost me as a customer for the rest of my life.

Honestly I think I'll limit myself to Duplicolor even though they do not have many light colored metallic blue, green or red colors. Just a shame a paint company like Testors/Rustomleum produce and package a produce that caters to a clientele which is a costly hobby to begin with.

If you call them they will refund you or give more.  I rarely buy Testors.

I just peeled the goo from a can of Testors lacquer this morning and used it; worked fine.  It's not the first time I've used a leaker.

It doesn't hurt to try and salvage a paint job or two out of a can before tossing it.

Worth a try. I have the cans upside down now so I can see which ones leaked. Maybe I should keep all my cans upside down LOL

Nor sure how storing upside down will work for you. Think about it.   Since the cans leak the liquid inside, and the leaking occurs at the bottom of the can, if you store them upside down the only thing near the bottom can seal will be the gas propellant (not liquid).  It it leaks, it's gas, so it will be invisible.  The only way you will know the can slowly leaked the gas over time will be loss of pressure (it won't spray anymore).  Since slow leak of gas cannot seal itself over time (like the liquid which hardens as it leaks), the defect will be invisible.

I would never buy Duplicolor. $16 a can? I don't need it that badly. Those are stupid money prices.

But hey, it's your money not mine.

You are right Peter. I didn't think of that. The nearest hobby shop is 50 miles from me which is Hobby Lobby Thomas. I figure buying at the auto parts store which is 2 miles away. What I'm saving in gas more than make up spending $16.99 for the Duplicator. Especially with the loss of the money I spent for the leaking cans of Testors.

Ran to McDonald’s for lunch and walked out to find nowhere near enough room to open my door and get in to leave.IMG_7086.thumb.jpeg.e18fa7ed174de3b7e53c0021a7171c8f.jpeg

Luckily, Dad keeps a cane in my car so I used that to push the brake pedal down from the passenger seat and pop it into neutral then coasted the car backwards enough that I could open my door and not hit that van.

Apparently the latest version of Covid is highly contagious as it finally got me.

Got us too, first time for me. I attended a "super spreader" work event last Tuesday, was sick on Friday, tested positive on Saturday. In the "what pleased me" department, my symptoms have been really mild. Spouse is a little sicker, but not much. Both on Paxlovid if that is worth anything. Hope you feel better soon Jeff!

Got Google pop ups showing up here again. We should start sending them a bill for ...

Depending on your device you might try another browser, Dave.  I use "Duck Duck Go" on an Android tablet ( a Google device) and it's pretty good with that stuff. It keeps Google out.

There's a Christian school at the end of our neighborhood. I walk my dogs and we spend a little time in the shade under the trees in their parking lot and then continue on. I've done this for about 15 years. Yesterday a woman from the school approached me and told me this is private property and I'm not to be here. I told her I've been doing this for years and she just repeated it's private property so I need to leave.

It was very upsetting and I will stay away but my dogs are sure not going to understand the change of routine. I wonder what caused this woman to do this?

Very possible that she thought you were letting your dogs relieve themselves on school property.

Regardless of the reason it is private property and the school has the right to control who is on it.

Really? I'm surprised it wasn't a police officer approaching you. There are just places a lone adult male cannot hang around these days without provoking a reaction.

I had to throw way 6 cans Thursday David, made a mess in my storage bin but I peeled it out.  There was color that hat leaked out also.  I have a Testors color from 92 and 7 cans of Boyd’s colors. I don’t have any Testors lacquer left if I need one it will be used on a present project..  I will have to need it bad… Been using Tamiya..
