It’s gold and looks more like a 50s phone. Don’t really use it much though because the ringer sounds awful and it is startling. And I’m hoping my great uncle will sell me his old RCA rabbit ear tv he has out in the garage. Would be cool to try and rig it up so that I can watch whatever on it. Pretty sure no channels work on it any more but one channel worked back in 2022. 1

So many things that we were accustomed to as kids have gone to the way side and are oblivious to today's youth. The Service station alert bell, the rotary phone, and tv rabbit ears to name a few. My dad also sported the curb finders on his cars back in the day. fond memories.. A few years ago I picked up my teenaged nephew in the old Lotus, which has conventional old door handles (grab the handle, push the button with the thumb). He stared at the door handle for a moment, tentatively reached out a hand but then withdrew it, looking puzzled, entirely unsure of how to use it. He was stumped. I watched this in amazement. It's crazy the once everyday things that will drop out of the social consciousness. 1

I spent a week in Lisbon a few years ago and spent some time walking about with the camera, shooting anything of interest. I encountered a police car parked at the curb, the officers were across the street talking to someone. As I passed it I took a picture, then moved on. Then I heard shouting and running, and turned to see the two policemen running towards me full-tilt, and they weren't happy. The angrily asked me a rash of stern questions about who I was and why I was taking pictures of their car, etc. Caught a bit off-guard, I stammered out my explanation, tourist and car enthusiast just taking pictures blah blah blah, but despite my story and sincere, heart-felt apologies, they weren't softening up much. I showed them the pictures on my camera screen, and deleted the photo and demonstrated it was gone. I was concerned they would confiscate it, but they seemed satisfied the photo was gone and eventually went back to their car. Enjoy Portugal. I loved it there.
The Junkman Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago Keep this up and we'll have to start an "Old-Older" game. (You're old if you remember this and older if you remember that) 1
TonyK Posted 25 minutes ago Posted 25 minutes ago (edited) Not to drift too far off the subject but for some reason a thought came to me how we don't hear the dreaded "turn the key to start the car when it's already running" sound. I wonder if the push button starters won't allow this. I'm not gonna test it! Now that my brain has caught up to my typing I realize the start button also shuts the engine off so there wouldn't be a chance of that old grinding sound. Edited 17 minutes ago by TonyK
