Wasn't sure if this should be in the model section or not. So I am posting it here. Found this hand made race car at a flea market today. Missing a steering wheel. But it's nicely done. It's 2 feet long.

Bill, are there any advantages to going fiberglass over steel?

I'd really rather do a steel car, as the final product would be worth a lot more.

But the shell will be modified heavily for channeling, custom work on the cowl, and lengthening of the doors.

That's the reason I bought it without the floor and firewall installed, as is the usual way folks get these things.

In this case, fiberglass was mainly a matter of cost, as I can work equally well with either material.

This body came in at around $4K total. A steel Brookville repro (with no firewall) is over $9-$11K, plus crating and shipping.

The difference will buy things like a quick-change rear end, etc,

I'm also looking at heavy moving expenses, so every dollar counts.

Finalized a deal for a little Ford 289 project. Already tanked, bored .060 over and assembled, but left to get a little wet. I'll go back through it, double check everything, shot-peen the rods, have the rotating bits balanced, and most likely do a mild port-match / polish job, cc the chambers. I haven't looked at any of the numbers to see exactly what it is yet, but whatever it is, it's worth what I'm paying. Unfortunately water got on some of the cam lobes and they're a little too pitted to trust with non-roller lifters, but I'd most likely have replaced the cam anyway.

Is that for your Deuce project?  Or are you going Chebby with that?

Ultimately it'll go in the '32, but I'll probably put a slightly tired Chebby in it first to get it running quicker. I have almost nothing for Ford Windsor engines, but lots of parts for smallblock Chevrolets.

However...that could change. I'm sniffing around on another cheap deal for a much later model 302/5.0 Ford engine.

EDIT: For what it's worth, the '32 will go together first with a Ford 8" (not a 9"), 'cause I got a freebie not too long ago. After a while, it'll get a gen-u-ine quick-change.

Thing is, I want to be driving the hot rod ASAP, instead of waiting forever while collecting parts and building the engine.

Had it trailered from Huntington Beach out to the desert - into a dramatic sunset - by a friend. There will be a few things to take care of; the tires have only 6000 miles on them but they're date-coded from 2012; A/C blows but not cold, and there's a Service Engine Soon light on - with residue from tape over it . Hopefully not a big deal; I ran the Carfax and checked DMV records on it, and it's passed every smog test from first to latest. Had a major service 5000 miles back with the intake manifold replaced (an issue with the otherwise bulletproof 3800 V6, so I've heard), along with the spark plugs, valve cover gaskets and oil pan gasket.

Just picked up the blue one today.

Traxxas was doing a 2 for $500 sale so a buddy and I went in on the pair. Both are brushless 2s and 3s LiPo compatible, waterproof (for now) and they licensed the bodies, wheels, and tires from Chevy, Weld, and Mickey Thompson! They even programmed the vehicle with something to act like a trans brake and put a momentary switch in place of the shift toggle on the 3 channel radio it comes with.

Thanks, this will be something new to both of us, even though we both have experience with it’s older siblings.

 

Quick edit, since we don’t want to ruin those nice C10 bodies, we are going to swap something else on them, he’s planning on getting one of they Fox Body Mustangs for his, and I went a different, but otherwise similarly RAD and slightly Gasser-ish route…….

The truck is a bit wide for the body. But I do dig the look and since I can’t afford to do this to a 1/1, there are no 1/25 kits to do this too, and the Hot Wheels XJ having even bigger flares and wouldn’t look as right, this will have to do.

Just broke down and bought a pair of DVC woofers for my Fuselier speakers. I typically blow one every few years, and one is completely gone (took it out of the circuit), the other one I did a Q&D cone fix on a couple years back is starting to buzz again, so it was time.

They're not top-line, but being DVC units (dual voice coil), I can run them in a car with an older lower-power amp when I upgrade the Fuseliers again after moving...and with the recent addition of the powered sub that's been taking up the slack, I may not have to upgrade anyway.

It'll be nice to hear everything again, on both channels, with no buzzfluffle.

If you haven't already, check the O2 sensor since that is not an uncommon issue.

So far the mechanic has it tracked down to a cam sensor; he's busy with my boss's other cars so it will probably be a few months till it's done and ready to pass smog. The detailer and paint guy both did a great job of detailing and color sanding it so it looked good at its first car show in Palm Springs a few weeks ago.

While waiting for a pizza at the shopping center here, I checked out the Angel View thrift store and was surprised to spot a black lambskin jacket by Roundtree and Yorke like this one:

Even better, it fit - and it was priced at $10.49. Later found out they sell used for around $160 - and new for nearly $400.

Oddly, they also had this Pocher Rolls-Royce - first time I've found a model kit there:

Apparently complete, and with that $150 price tag, there it can stay.
