I went to Hobby Lobby this afternoon, it was a mob scene. Found this 1/16 57 Chevy kit. Too bad they didn't brace up the windshield frame as well on the 57 T Bird kit. Looks like a good kit overall.

New Kits of Old Subjects from Round2
Doug 1061 replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm with you on the XJ. Surprised no one ever kitted them up. You would think it would be a good seller. -
I know what you mean about this kit. This was the first truck I butchered when I was a young 'un back in the early 70s. Wish I still had all my old models from back then, but like most of us they met their demise with fireworks. But now that I am older and supposedly wiser I just finished up an original W925 kit I scored at a swap meet. It does have some short comings but with a bit of work/re engineering here and there they can look good. It should look good in Plum Crazy, just something about a big purple truck, and I mean that in a good way. These AMT truck kits are not that bad overall, you do have the internet now which is the best tool ever for model building. Will check in here from time to time and see how it's coming along. Have fun...

MPC End Dump
Doug 1061 replied to Doug 1061's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hello gang, I finally made a bit more progress on my end dump. Got the plate and pivot points for the king pin sorted, don't know the technical term for it. I know it's not entirely accurate but have been going off of some less than stellar photos I found off the net. Guess you can call it artistic license. Still have a long way to go on it but I am happy with how it's coming along so far. Just glad I actually got it to work. Still have to add a couple gussets on the king pin plate and make cross braces for the sub frame. Also need to do something about the cylinder, need one with an extra stage. Hoping to come up with one that actually telescopes. I was hoping to have it done by the end of the year but that is kinda doubtful. It looks to have a good stance when mounted to the tractor, I hope this is 3/4 of the battle. Hope to have more updates over the next couple weeks. As always, comments or suggestions welcome. -

1977 or 78 Aerosmith at McNichols Arena in Denver. 5th row, mostly hearing feedback from the crowd. Not that great of a show. -
Digger Dirick & Bucket Truck
Doug 1061 replied to yh70's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice work on both of those. Reminds me of years ago I worked at a Hi-Ranger dealer. I'm not the best with heights, it was always a bit unnerving going up 50 ft. in one of those buckets. That truck looked like it was 1:25 scale down below. -
That turned out very nice. And I agree, nice pics.

This is nice. Some good engineering you have going on here. Scratch building really eats up time, like wow, that was a fast 2 or 3 hours. Gonna be a good looking blower. -

No such luck here in Denver either. Too bad, wouldn't mind getting that Coke trailer for $29.95. -

Superb job on this. That is a good idea to make the fenders, I never woulda thought of that. -

Superb job all around. Super smooth foil work, and nice touch on the rubber gasket around the windshield. -

Great work there. I have one of these somewhere in my pile, haven't decided what color to paint it. -

Yep. Dive in and try it. If you make a mess of it, well you know what didn't work. Off to plan B. It's only plastic. -
Nice work. 6 months seems to be the norm for me on a truck kit. Sometimes you have to walk away from it for a bit.

Made a bit more forward progress on this trailer. Fabbed up the mounts for the subframe arms. Just going off of pics I found on the net, eyeball engineering here. Also noticed I have to do something with the axle spacing. Tires are touching, DOT would have a field day with that....... Got the liner primed and sanded smooth and ready for paint. Put the tractor in front of it just to get an idea what it will look like. Now to make the plate for the king pin and make it all work. Will likely take a few tries to get it. Hope I can pull it off. -

That is looking great. I especially like the exhaust system. As real looking as they get. -
