  1. Technically, that is a bit misleading. Most actual hood hinges move the hood forward and up since they usually are a complex hinge and not just a single pivot point. The only kit I have seen that includes a regular automotive style hood hinge is the Trumpeter Pontiac Bonneville and most builders report them as problematic to get working properly.
  2. my first thought was Ford Cortina, when that didn't match I went to another continent.
  3. I can't say that I have never slipped and gouged bodies when using the exacto blade method, the key thing to remember is that it's only plastic and plastic can be added back in or putty to fill scratches. There is lots of good info in the questions thread and tips thread on this forum.
  4. my initial impression was incorrect...as it seems to have happened to a few. but...I did find it after changing some search parameters.
  5. I don't have photos of that, didn't even have a camera back then (about 40 years), I still have the kit but it's been packed away with other projects for so long that I don't remember exactly where it is. Suffice to say that it would look like any other Johan MB kit as it came out of the box with the exception that the doors had been cut out. I used the "back side of the Exacto blade" method.
  6. I have the exact same Johan kit you are working on, acquired it over thirty years ago. I have already cut the doors out, so I know exactly how fragile the body is. At the time, I was lacking skills to make door hinges that matched my desires for fit and finish of the model...so it has been in a box since then. When I get back to it, I will be able to complete the build to my current standards and will probably convert the wheels to real wire. Magazines used to be the only way to see things other people build, video is great also but I find Google and the "Image" option of Google to be a great tool as of late. You just need to be persistent and try different search words, sometimes just changing the order of your search words yields different results. A lot of interesting car builders are on the internet that have never been in a magazine, I lose a lot of building time when I find interesting car customizers. There are great, experienced and helpful builders here...you never know where the next great tip or advice will come from. FYI: the Lindberg SSK does have a straight 6 motor but the level of detail in the Lindberg kit is nowhere near that of the Johan kit.
  7. that's a great kit bash Kurt.
  8. thanks, I'm not as good as Harry, but I can get some ideas worked out.
  9. Trimmed off the bumpers.... After a little more photo chopping... dropped it a bit, in process of blending the front wings off... Still have more to do but gotta do some chores.
  10. On this particular project, I would advise against cutting open the doors. That would put the body in a very fragile state and if broken might cause you to give up on this build. I feel it would be safe to open the trunk but it will add a level of complexity due to the need of creating the trunk interior space. I'm not trying to discourage you...I'm just pointing out one the realities of opening the trunk, and it's really no harder to resolve than you will have to do with regard to moving the engine bay firewall. Regarding engine induction, just about any side draft style carb system will look great on this, SU's (Jaguar carbs), Webers, Carters (early Corvette), various injection types...or belt driven superchargers like a Magnacharger style or direct drive like Mercedes or Duesenberg. Your choice of style may make it easier to choose features of your hot rod. Period correct would dictate speed (hot rod) parts available at the time the car was produced, Restomod generally means original styling with newer and safer engine, chassis and suspension. Currently, with the changes already made to the body... you have ventured into the traditional arena of "custom car" rather than just a car that has been "hot rodded" with performance parts. If you have the time or desire, try doing some drawings or photoshopping of pictures to see how changing the body lines make an unforgettable car, or a car you'd rather forget.
  11. Daddy LIKE!!!
  12. I think a coat of clear acrylic (Future floor polish) after the chrome pen would keep the clear red separated from the chrome pen paint, or use BMF then clear red
  13. thank you Tom.
  14. Yesterday I got offered a job that has great potential for me and the pay isn't an insult to my skills and experience... so I accepted. This is noteworthy for me since my last employer had to lay everyone off and cease all operations due to funding running out at the end of August and I have been hunting jobs in earnest since then as opposed to just scanning for better opportunities while still employed.

Dang, those Minilites from Fireball look fantastic. I bought a set to build a copy of my 1:1
  16. Sometimes the gauntlet comes into your front yard and slaps you in your house...
  17. not as easy for me as it seemed for the rest... but the hunt was interesting
  18. I concur, outstanding work on a relatively thankless job. (I guess I can't blame it on the cable modem any more )
  19. based on his caption for that photo, I'm guessing it's meant to depict a red wire...and as red wires go, it's a fine depiction.
  20. x2
  21. I think I have heard of fine point Sharpies being used... You could put some tape over the "glass", then hold it in place while you run a Sharpie around the window frame to get the weather strip "look", testing on an old body maybe the best way to go.
  22. there are a lot of interesting mods on that truck... aside from what has already been mentioned. custom center console using gauge cluster assembly tail lights mounted on rear fenders new rear bumper, not sure where it's from but it has a "Ford flavor" to it tailgate latches are upgraded I see hint of a hood scoop... still trying to decide if the "Chevrolet" on the tailgate is just paint or highlighted metal stamping.... I know a guy who is that good at paint. Is the hood reverse hinged? As already stated, you have an excellent start on the pickup you've posted, this Forum has an amazing wealth of information, tips and tutorials. Please remember to check threads that don't always seem to pertain to your current project, there are treasures hidden all over the forum and you may find a tip that will solve a problem you're having "in the most unexpected place".
  23. It's possible that "Stupid, ignorant, incompetent" is okay as long as you have a "smart phone" to take up the slack. Now we need someone to produce a "smart and considerate phone" to pick up some more of the slack.
  24. anyone can get you locked out of your email (all they need is your email address or account name) if you access through "webmail" interface and possibly even if you use outlook...if they try to continually log into your email with the wrong password, the email service will lock down the account for security purposes and force you to change your password even if your account didn't actually get hacked.
  25. my email account got locked because some hacker made enough attempts to log in unsuccessfully that my email provider locked my email account even though I had the correct password. then...I had to track down how to update the login password in my "over ten year old" email client. freaking hackers!!!! (could even be one of those TLA organizations...) much irkage happening on my computer!
